Thanks for the tutorial. It helped me to understand waypoints. However, how can I add an A* algorithm with this system?
@MetalStormGames
@MetalStormGames 3 жыл бұрын
@@dippedincocoa1640 A* is a fairly complex path finding algorithm you would need to find a series that walks through it step by step. Sebastian Lague has a good one on his channel but it is quicte complex. if you are new to path finding I would suggest learning one of the more simple algorithms first like Breadth First Search and then work your way up to implementing A*.

Hello, thank you for helpful tutorial. My question is, I wonder if there is a way to draw curved line between Waypoints. I wanna make gameobject move smoothly when it turns other way, but the waypoint system I made only can draw direct line... I think It may relates to interpolation...

@@MetalStormGames Yeah I was actually looking for something like this to use on a few sharks I wanted to move around below the water, I used the implementation you showed in the video. The only thing I can't seem to figure out yet is how to smooth the rotation properly, perhaps you can point me in the right direction. In the video as you mentioned using LookAt changes the rotation instantly, and what I need is for my object (the shark) to go from waypoint A to B and when it's close to B start looking at C. I think I figured how to calculate the approach but not the interpolation properly. In the distance approach I made another function which basically calls GetNextWaypoint to check (but not change) which one would be the following waypoint, so that I can calculate 'where' it needs to look at, so in this case the shark is going from A to B, and starts looking at C when close to a rotationThreshold near B. The thing that's driving me crazy is the Quaternion.Lerp or Quaternion.Slerp interpolations, because they don't seem to be working the way I expected them to work. I first calculate a rotation using LookRotation() which I then tried to give to the lerp but it rotates weirdly, it rotates too little before reaching the next waypoint, or not enough to complete it's full rotation by the time it reaches it. I also tried Quaternion.RotateTowards without success. If you have any tips on how to approach a simple lerp or smooth effect for the rotation going from A to B, while looking at C waypoint, I would appreciate the help.
@MetalStormGames
@MetalStormGames 2 жыл бұрын
I am never the greatest with rotations but you will want to look up Slerp in the unity scripting reference. It will let you smoothly move between 2 vector directions. There is an example on the documentation at the link below. I hope to make some videos on smoothly rotating in the future but it might be a bit before I get to those. docs.unity3d.com/ScriptReference/Vector3.Slerp.html

@MetalStormGames
@MetalStormGames Жыл бұрын
Check out the recent Part 2 of the video I made, it doesnt do exactly what you want but you can change it to very easily. I show how to set it so you can make the player move forward or backwards on the waypoints. You can easily do the exact same thing with the player and add a bool variable for isMoving and then if the intersection arm gate is down set isMoving to false on the player, when it goes back up change it to be true and that should work just fine for what you need.

Hi Dear. First of all, sorry for my english. My problem; I am a beginner coder. My Project is a 2D There is something I want to do in my project. My character will patrol the way point. While going to each point, it will turn its direction to that direction. At each point, it will wait for the time I set. There are at least 30 points on the way. When it reaches the last point, it will wait here for 5 seconds and continue from the second point.

@MetalStormGames
@MetalStormGames Жыл бұрын
The first step I would take is to use some debug messages to see where the code is sitting at during those pauses, I would guess it is probably something with the check if the player is close enough to the next waypoint and its very very slowly trying to move closer to the target but thats just a guess. Put in some debug messages inside each section of code one by one to see where the problem section is and that should help you narrow it down a lot.

If you mean how to move around in the Scene view you can use Flythrough mode which all you have to do is hold the right mouse button down and then use the WASD keys to move around inside of the scene view just like you would control a character in a first person shooter game.

Not sure exactly what you mean but if you want to add more points on the path just duplicate the gameobject waypoint, the system works based on how many children there are in the waypoint system so you can add as many as you want by just duplicating the path waypoints. Is that what you meant?

Thanks for the detailed tutorial. Have one for door/chest/item interactions?
@MetalStormGames
@MetalStormGames 3 жыл бұрын
That wouldnt really be a waypoint system but a seperate mechanic. If you are looking for doing that using Unity's NavMesh system I do have a video on making doors work with NavMesh Agents (its actually a few videos). For manually moving like this it would really depend on what you wanted it to do and how you structure your game so not really a quick easy answer on that. If you are using a waypoint movement system like this though what comes to mind for me would be to have a waypoint that goes through a door but have a trigger collider on that door and on the object moving between waypoints look for colliding with a door. If it does collide with a door then wait until its open and then pass through. (you may want to check out my navmesh door series either way for that). If that wasnt your question then explain it a bit more and I can try to answer.

@MetalStormGames
@MetalStormGames Жыл бұрын
Null reference means that something is basically empty in that line, check to make sure there is something in currentWaypoint. More than likely it does not have a refrence in the inspector or there are no children objects under the waypoint gameonject in the hierarchy. If you have trouble figuring that out it is probably a lot easier to explain how to troubleshoot on Discord if you want to join mine the link is in the description and I can definitely help you figure it out.

@MetalStormGames
@MetalStormGames 2 жыл бұрын
I am not sure how off hand as I have never tried that but I dont see why not. If I am understanding you right I think you could just save the previous point and then calculate the distance between that one and the next waypoint to get the full distance between them. Then you could just work out the percentage based on where the player/objects current position is in between them if that makes sense?

I would restructure the setup from this video a bit for that. In the method for GetNextWaypoint I would pass in the position variable that you have and then do a check if the current waypoint has the same index as your "position" variable. Bro can you say how to add animation when the player is going through waypoint
@MetalStormGames
@MetalStormGames 2 жыл бұрын
For something like a walk animation? You could just use bool or triggers on the Animator and in the script that moves your object set them there. Basically in the mover code when the object is moving set a bool like isWalking to be true which changes the Animator state to walking and if its not moving set isWalking to false. Make a transition in the Animator that uses isWalking being false to play an Idle animation. That should get you going in the right direction but if not feel free to join my Discord server with the link in the description and we could help you out a bit more on that.
