Yeah Unity its a great tool but missing some basic things what modern engine should have and feels outdated compared to other engines. I am more used to Unreal than Unity workflow but i will test it for sure when this will be implemented. Unity needs to be more artist freindly.

As an artist unity has almost nothing to that beats UE4. This is a step into the right direction, but it's not implemented yet and i'm not sure if it's going to knock UE4 off of it's throne.

It's a good company to acquire for sure, I wouldn't call it "checkmate" though, as Unity is still behind Unreal on real time lightning, shadows and LOD technology. Competition is always great for the consumer so I welcome anything Unity can grow and provide to the market.

im sure if you want to use those tools will need to pay for unity pro that coust almost 2,000 dlls a yeear, also i think i wil take a loooooong time to see those tool fully implemented in to the engine so i wouldnt call that a check mate

I wouldn't be so quick to judge, they haven't implemented anything yet of Weta into Unity itself. And knowing Unity, it's going to take them atleast 2 years to get something up (their gpu lightbaker is still busted and HDRP is still not optimised). They still have a long way to go to keep up with UE4.

09:38 I highly doubt this. Unity's biggest market and user base is based on mobile games/applications. No VFX studio uses Unity, but meanwhile UE4 was used for the Mandalorian. I also don't think this is going to change the minds of VFX studios, because UE4/5 is basically free where Unity you need a subscription.

As a Unity user and Artist this gives me hope for Unity, but Unity still has A LOT of catching up to do with UE4/5. This is why for personal projects I always use UE4/5, Lumen and Nanite are a game changer (not to mention that 0 tools for artists basically.)

ya u got no clue at all lol. they didn't buy WETA FX, the guys who make the models, effects etc. they bought the guys who made some tools for them. the artists are the most important and you cannot buy people.

@@PrefoX Tools give you the possibility to accomplish your visions and ideas. There are incredibly talented artists similar to WETA FX in London for example who do magic at Framestore or other VFX houses who also worked for WETA at some point on shots. Unity doesn't need to get people from WETA onboard there are plenty of immensely skilled folks elsewhere. Thanks for your comment.

Basically 90%+ of released mobile games are unity compared to ue, ue made it mostly bcs of fortnite .. majority of small games are in unity, not that surprising but still surprising :) .. ue is more powerful but unity is more versatile and lightweight ..

No we need compition if Epic becomes too big the tools they make will start to stagnate in 5+ years. Epic is trying to keep ahead of Unity right now. So Unity is making moves to leap frog Epic. This puts more pressure on Epic to build even better tools than Weta has. So this is a win for Epic developers and a win for Unity developers. As we Epic users will get better tools from Epic trying to match Unity and Unity devs are getting a nice set of tools from Weta.

How about Unity focus on ridding their awfully dated UI? Thats the reason why it is losing. Unreal is very Artist-focused. Unity is not so no matter what Amazing tools it has itd still lose.
