After two intense years of CPGE, I’m so excited to dive back into game development!

As someone who started learning game development in Unity and didn't know a single line of Coding, I can share that it is not true that Unity is a good starting point. Unity is only usable if you already know how to make games, particularly using coding. Unreal Engine is far better for beginners. You don't have to know coding and the blueprint system is easy to learn. Using Unreal, not only will you be able to begin quickly but you can get prototypes done quickly also.

If you want to start game development this year, start with Unity. Learning C# is not difficult, and coding C# in Unity is not that tough either. After about a year, you will be quite at home. Then, tackle the Unreal Engine using blueprints and learn C++ as you go along. This way, you'll have the best of both worlds in a few years.

I agree. Even I had some experience before, but when I "restarted" making games with an actual engine. I started with Unity, before moving to UE. Starting with UE would of been too big step right away, even when I had previously been coding game 20 years ago with pascal.

You forget 2 ones on top of what you said: Roblox Studio, C++ only, the rest I don't know but I know there is others choices but less used.

Hello sir pixelton I'm a fellow unreal dev. I'm working on a FPS multiplayer setup where the character has two mesh one for arms and one for full body, I found so many problems in integrating a weapon system with this setup like weapons not changing properly in sync with other client and all that. so could you make a tutorial on that along the way please.
@SirPixelton2 күн бұрын
If I’m understanding it correctly, you are using the arms for client side render, and the whole body for server side replication? The replication system is definitely something I will go over in the future. Welcome aboard and thank you for your comment!

Thanks for the video and good luck with the channel! It's scary how well youtube algorithms work. I just started learning UE for linear content creation. I work in advertising industry and want to expand my toolset beyond offline DCC like Houdini, C4D etc. And your video just popped up) If it will be in scope of your channel it would be very interesting to see episode of about using game engines for filmmaking, virtual production and related stuff.

Welcome aboard! I was always interested in what UE has to offer on the virtual production side. I will keep this in mind and hopefully be knowledgeable enough to make some content in the future.

I was just about to start learning ue 5 today and i even bought a course for blueprint. Is blueprint enough for a small story horror game cus i dont think its something that complicated? (Example: Resident Evil Village type game) Amazing video btw, hope the algorithm pushes this video to the surface!
@SirPixeltonКүн бұрын
I can do a lot with blueprint, a simple first person horror game with interactable and gun mechanics are all do able with blueprint. I encourage beginners to learn through blueprint for the first time as well, which is why I am going to release a series of tutorials to go through the basics in the future.

If the future of UE5 games are an un-optimized mess that relies on DLSS and forced TAA that makes everything look blurry, then I do not want such future.

Wokot?
@SirPixeltonКүн бұрын
at the end of the day, game engines are just tools, there is one that is better at something compare to others, but ultimately is the developer that make the magic happens. I personally like Godot a lot, the in-engine documentation is the greatest thing in the world.

@@SirPixelton I see your point, but I have to disagree, unreal games in the past few years are just a blurry mess and unoptimized, it is unacceptable a game not running at 4k 120fps in a 4090. Unity CEOs, just care about their shareholders. Only left is open source, and the only open source that isn't a bunch of config mess is Godot. I really hope Godot makes a big impact for unreal and unity be about games again.
@SirPixeltonКүн бұрын
I also hope Godot can be a big impact to challenge these big names in some ways. Competition is always good for the market and consumers.

(I am new to all this so I'm asking, I appreciate your answer) Is it possible to make games of such a level of graphics in Godot, is Godot capable of doing it (I understand the skill thing, I am talking about scope here) ?
