After receiving top-notch training, Terry is now converting his first-ever classic car, a rare 1961 Corvair Lakewood Station Wagon, using the Ampere EV Atom system-a comprehensive, straightforward solution for converting classics to electric. I can think of no better conversion than a Corvair Lakewood - no more possibility of fumes in the passengers compartment!

Yes! Back in the 1960s, a neighbour had one, and that thing was nasty-smelling from fumes on SHORT road trips. I'm glad this guy was able to rescue this Corvair from its rubbish engine

This car (one like it) is featured in the VERY smart and funny movie "UNFROSTED". My parents bought a green one NEW in 1962 (a left over that wouldn't sell) from our local Chevy dealer at a greatly reduced price thanks to its odd EVERYTHING. I was 15 and a half and DUG the car. Sadly Dad sold it before my 16th birthday (September). BTW, he made a PROFIT. This is a fitting rebirth of a great car!!!!

Very cool. I always love your videos. A tremendous resource and a great way to kepp up with the EV scene and the conversions. I will be buying a Honda odyssey 2007 that I can hopefully convert to an EV. This technology will keep getting better and better. The Honda has an engine cradle that can hopefully help with the EV conversion. Also looking to make all the accessory's for camping and backpacking electric. Richard from ECC has converted some vw to all electric. thank you bill c

I really like how they are doing EV conversions of classic cars in the UK. They don’t butcher the vehicle and it can be retrofitted at any time. Not sure if that is an EU standards issue?!?

It's a DVLA (UK government) requirement. EU have other rules. US is easier to convert with basic systems or even DIY kits.

This is fantastic. SEMA shows of the future are going to blow your mind. This is the future of hot rodding. It opens the market up to many more folks because it doesn't require all the skill and expensive tools needed to build and work on engines and transmissions.

Nice build, however those motor mounts are going to flex and tear themselves apart the first time the motor delivers full torque output. The rear mount needs to attach to a much more substantial cross beam: at least a 3" square box section. And the motor mount connecting to the cross beam has to be much stiffer. That long 2" flat plate tongue will instantly buckle from the down force exerted by the motor as it delivers torque to the wheels. Also there shouldn't be a mix a soft and hard mounts. Go one or the other, otherwise the hard mounts get evem higher loads as the soft mounts deflect under load.

I agree, the mounting attachment points and hardware are not up to the tasks. Also, I would have built in a trailing arm/4 link rear with adjustable coilovers and dual cv joint axles, and re-enforced all the sheet metal structural members with square tube.

@@deltajohnny it is not so much the issue, the main point is you have to get the new system certified and crash tested. Also you have to use brand new components, not repurposed ones.

I don't understand why to spend so much money for conversion to EV and not repair, repaint the body to protect it from salt on the roads in Colorado? That question is especially pertinent if the car is intended for daily driving.

Yes, the rotted out driver's side floor pan, visible on the lift, should have been addressed near the begining of the process IMO.

@@lavidavolta This is going to be a nice expensive built vehicle. Patina should not include weight reduction by having holes in metal of the body to see insides of the vehicle from outside.

Love listening to the EV expertise, but the video will make people seasick. PLEASE use a tripod and use the zoom more judiciously. Reserve handheld cameras for the high-action car chase sequences.
