I love how you take the time to explain what each part does. In other chanels you can only hear the sound of the watch being dismantled, which I do not criticize, is very relaxing, but this chanel besides relaxing is enriching. I love.

Fascinating project with stunning results. I’ve just had my late dads gold accurst watch serviced which my mum bought him in the early 1950s for £19 pounds . The only problem was dad never took it off even when washing up , so the dial had become very damaged over time. When it came to having it restored I said about having it replaced , the watch repairer said I should leave as it is because it will bring back all those memories of your dad . Which was absolutely right , he also said by the way it’s worth a bit more than your mum paid . Around about £500 now , I suppose because it’s gold but in all honesty to me it absolutely priceless. Best wishes and kind regards to your good self 😀👍👍👍

Sounds like that Watchmaker really loved what he did, I'd certainly be a repeat customer for them if I had the chance. Course, as it stands I only just got my first automatic mechanical watch (thanks to this channel awakening a fascination with it), it's just a cheap little Boderry Urban skeletal watch but I've really been enjoying it so far, especially being able to see the internal mechanics as they work, certainly going to be seeking out a couple more affordable mechanical movements, digital stuff is fun an all, but something about mechanical movements just feel more alive than most modern devices, deffinitly glad they are managing to stick around

I'm a retired "Aerospace and Mechanical" Engineer. It says so right on my diploma. I spent 20 years doing mechanical design in heavy industry, perhaps the heaviest imaginable. Oil Field. Steel Mills. Forest Products. Where, by contract, we were sometimes not allowed to use anything smaller than a 3/8" bolt. Then I went to a "large manufacturer of commercial airliners" in the USA, where I was working on flight control mechanisms. We practically had to explain to management why we would want to use something so extravagant as a 1/4" bolt. (No, not really, but I'm not exaggerating all that much.) Number 4 through 8 threads? Par for the course. I thought I'd become some sort of watchmaker.. And then, not so many days ago, KZbin sent me to this channel. Holy Cow!

When I was a very small kid, I watched my father repair one of his watches. I also watched him repair some friends and family member's watches. I was fascinated. I was always tinkering with something when I was you. I got into plastic models and slowly worked my way up to more and more advanced models. When I was around 134 or 14, my left hand developed a tremor. It frustrated me. My father got me some helper tools so I can keep working on my models, he noticed I was very unhappy about not being able to work on them. I almost gave up until then. I would love to pick this up as a hobby, but the tremor is still there. I have seen a handful of specialists growing up, last one was two years ago and still no answer or reason why.

I’m a proud owner of a Universal Geneve. It is a 1946 square case dress watch, small by today’s standards but I love it. Eric Clapton is a keen collector of Universals, especially the Tri Compax chronometers. Apparently, Universal Geneve used to manufacture watch movements for Rolex and Patek Phillipe during the 1920’s & 1930’s.

I take my fishing reels down to the last screw once a year and clean/lubricate them, my oldest one is from 1957 (Abumatic 60) and it works as good as new after all these years! :) Now a fishing reel is not as complicated as a watch, but it's fun to do and keeps them running instead of buying a new.

"How many things have you completely dissembled and put back together?" I have a 1966 Triumph T100 that came to me in several boxes. It was locked up and very rusted. It is back together now and running. It's not a wrest watch but it has the complexity of a Swiss movement.

Thanks Marshall, a great video, my favorite so far. For a basically unloved and not well cared for watch,, you made a clear winner of this one. I really enjoyed learning about the works of this gem in particular, quite sophisticated I think. I felt as excited as you, seeing this watch leaping back into life with such strong performance. The appearance was quite tacky at the start, I had doubts regarding it being likely to have a good end result. Wrong, it is a true beauty, I'd be quite pleased to own it. Your videos are a great way to spend an hour with a cup of tea, on a rainy and cold day. I've enjoyed following you for a few months, I'm going to check out joining you on Patreon, well worth some bucks for the entertainment and learning. If I were not 81, shaky and with marginal sight, I'd have a go at it myself, (but there is still your channel, thankfully.) Patrick

Hi Marshel. Inspired by your great videos and presentation skills, I've started going down the same road as you with watchmaking. Reaching the stage now where I'm fixing more than I'm breaking. Thankyou. So, I went back to this video because I had an old battered Universal and thought 'hey' I can save some time on all the photos and notes and use this video as a guide.' Worked really well right up to the last few parts when I went to fit the setting lever...lol....thing is I was saying to myself "surely I need to fit this with the spring? Perhaps it just pushes and clicks in? I'll follow the video". Lesson learnt on shortcuts. Thanks again for the great work and inspiration.
