1st time I saw it I was creeped out. After seeing it a few more times I'm actually impressed how closely they captured his likeness from the book. Kinda grew on me. If they had more time for it to be on screen and let the viewer's perception adjust (rather than him just emerging from behind something in a split second), I'm actually pretty sure this design could go over well onscreen. It's just that rapid cut to his eyes when you're not expecting it that he looks creepy. Back up the camera a tad and give the character screen time and I'm sure it's fine.

I like the presence of that tracking line right as the Cat in the Hat pops up, which only appears after the tape has been rewound to that point over and over again.
