Universal took to long to capitalise on the illumination movies popularity, don’t really know why they never implemented the animated lorax or grinch movies into the land. However, the grinch is definitely still a very popular character and all seuss landing needs is just a little face lift to rejuvenate itself. Still hoping for a Mt. There was going to be a Grinch themed roller coaster during the development of Seuss Landing but got scrapped. Maybe Universal will bring back this idea since Universal is known for reviving old ideas that were shelved and also that the Grinch is one of the most iconic Dr. Seuss characters.

I love the Cat in the Hat movie, it may not be everyone’s cup of tea but it is mine. When I was at the parks for Spring Break, Seuss Landing was so empty it was honestly sad to see. Everyone, myself included was just using it to get to and from the Wizarding World, Jurassic Park and to get back to Universal Studios. I did stop there at the candy shop and it smelled so sweet in there. I got chocolate chip cookie dough fudge and it was the best. They had so many sweets in there, cookies, candy, cake. If they do replace it, they better keep that sweets shop because it is heavenly.

Most kids don’t know who they are, so it wouldn’t make any sense to theme a whole area to them with several E-Ticket rides. You run into the same issues you have in Toon Lagoon now. Seuss Landing needs some serious TLC no matter what. It’s for small children mostly but that doesn’t mean you can’t update/upgrade rides. I also think they could lean into the books more people know like The Lorax or Green Eggs and Ham or The Grinch (yes it’s seasonal but who cares during a ride?) and give the park some love. I remember being impressed with how cute the land was when I went because it was one of the first we went through, but by the end of my trip I completely forgot it existed.

I personally think they will just remove and update the references to these specific books and leave the rest of the land as is. Or, I can see them turning the whole land into illumination (Despicable Me/Minions, Secret Life of Pets, etc). Universal Studios Hollywood just built a Secret Life of Pets dark ride....seems like the perfect replacement for the Cat In The Hat ride. They also own Dreamworks, but with Shrek at Studios and How To Train Your Dragon going to Epic Universe, I don't know if I see them using this here.

Please -- PLEASE! -- do NOT get rid of Seuss Landing! I first went to Islands of Adventure last December and fell in love with this area pretty quickly! It's my favorite theme in the park. I think Universal did a great job realizing the quirky Dr.-Seussian aesthetic of this area, to the point where I just enjoy walking aimlessly through the area and taking it all in. The goofy music, the vibrant colors, the exaggerated structures, the overhead train-ride -- it's all just overflowing with character and really adds to the park experience!

It’s the same thing with Splash Mountain. Even though there is nothing inherently racist in the ride itself, it is based on racist source material which incited change for that ride. I’m pretty sure Uncle Remus is a sharecropper which explains why he’s there post slavery. The movie within itself isn’t racist. The actor who played Uncle Remus received an Emmy for the performance. After this cancelation issue, I went back and re-read all those old Seuss books. The ONLY one that had anything racist in it was If I Ran the Zoo, and that could have been fixed by re-doing a couple of the drawings. Mulberry Street had already fixed the one sort of racist part years ago by changing a drawing and some wording. I know companies have the right to stop publishing stuff, but it's kind of sad.

I don't see why they should replace Seuss Landing. The company removing the books honestly wasn't necessary, but I do understand why as they want to protect the brand before people found out about the remarks in those books (If there were any). With more upcoming movies on the way it will just make the land more popular with the younger generation and grown ups alike, I personally loved the Netflix Green Eggs and Ham, so I can imagine kids liking that show too. Also the live action Grinch has a very important presence in the Universal parks, it'd be a shame to see Jim Carry's Grinch going away.

I see no reason to remove the whole land. It is a timeless property that occasionally gets a little extra gas (though I really hope that they keep Illumination's Seuss movies out of this - I greatly prefer the style of the books). I could, however, see a major-scale renovation in the future. Not because of this small-scale controversy, but rather because the area itself needs a little tune-up. While we already know about Cat in the Hat, the Trolley Train also needs a little tuning. Perhaps they could also add new experiences - removing "If I Ran The Zoo" leaves area for something new. Nothing all that big, but perhaps a new flat ride (a simple re-theming of the attraction wouldn't quite be enough, especially given that a post-pandemic population is going to be reluctant at best to let their children play - part of the reason Kidzone's on the chopping block, the area is almost entirely play area structures).

When I was a child I adored Seuss Landing. But nowadays the land is far from outstanding. It's dated, it's tacky, it's in disrepair, and if they replaced it, I don't think I'd care. However, I realize, it won't go away, since Universal really needs it to stay. Its licensing budget is already high, so I really doubt Universal will try to find an IP to replace it that kids love the same. From a movie, tv show, or video game. So I'd say Seuss Landing will forever stand. Because if it doesn't, we'll get Minions Land.

As much as I'd love a SpongeBob land, I think it'd be better as a retheme of Toon Lagoon. Toon Lagoon is already full of water rides, so applying the SpongeBob IP to it would be super easy. Plus, SpongeBob is far more relevant and iconic than... old comic strip characters and Dudley Do-Right. And as much as it'd pain me to say goodbye to Popeye, SpongeBob is far more iconic and popular nowadays than him. If only we got the proposed Sweet Haven land with the original park idea.
