I purchased this rack last summer for my 2021 Goldwing. I ended up attaching an Igloo cooler which kept my food and beverages cold. It was a lifesaver to say the least. We ended up hitting temperatures of 107° while riding through the Los Padres National Forest . The cold beverages along with my “Big Ass” cup holder Kept our beverages cold and we remained hydrated during the ride. The rack did not appear to change the performance or handling of the motorcycle whatsoever. It’s a great addition if you’re just looking for a little bit more space for your bike. 🇺🇸👮🏻♂️

I've used this rack for the last 2 years. My wife and I have done over 5000 miles with it. The smaller bags and trunk on 18+ help me decide to purchase this. Each year we take at least 2 long distance trips. The extra space and easy removal when you get to where you are going makes it convenient. I use a 40L Nelson Rigg Hurricane duffle bag and stack a 10L Nelson Rigg on top of that. Enough clothes for a week and extra in case the temperature changes. There are no problems with lean angles, weight issues, or exhaust heating up the bags. You never notice it back there. The license plate is covered but I took Max McAllister advice (watch the War Horse project) and photocopied my plate and attached it to my bag. The brake lights are not covered. Be careful when entering driveways or parking lots with steep slopes because it may drag. Hope this answered some of your questions.

It never ceases to amaze me as to how “stuff” people insist on travelling with. I rode across Canada last year, took a ferry across to Maine, and back out west to Alberta. I was on the road for 4 weeks with my 17 F6B which as most people would know has no trunk. So I had 2 saddlebags for everything bike related plus rain gear etc etc. on my back seat was a medium sized waterproof duffel bag. I tend to do laundry every second or 3rd day on the road and that’s it. It just blows me away that people would travel with a weeks worth of clothing …on a motorcycle and “somehow” fill another duffel or two.

I used to pull a trailer, but now I have a rack on my 2012, not this particular one, a homemade one. I use a hi-viz 30L dry bag from MEC.

C-way is the way to go, comes with a dry bag and the Goldstrike cooler fits perfectly on it. Looks much better!

I am curious does your exhaust pipes make whatever you carry get warm or hot, I can't wait until you have review it after you have try it out or rode for a while.

Nice video Cruiseman. Here was my thinking when determining this style tray versus a trailer. Let's say you have 30 lbs of stuff loaded on that tray. The tray is roughly 3' from your rear axle. That's a moment arm of 90 ft lbs of downward rotational force on the rear suspension. Added to whatever you have in the OEM bags and trunk, plus a possible co-rider. That's a lot of downward force on the rear suspension parts and tire. Contrast a trailer (I too have a Bushtec) that can hold up to roughly 200 lbs. (that's a lot of crap) which is supported mainly by the trailer wheels. Much lighter tongue weight and no shock loading due to bouncing, etc. The tray concept is probably good for very lightweight day trip needs, but if you're in it for the long haul and traveling an extended time, save the bike and get a trailer. Just my thoughts sir.

Fair points.

A 200# trailer should have a tongue weight of 20-30# (10-15% of trailer weight). That puts you in the exact same boat (albeit with more gear).

I currently have a pakit rak & bag for my 2021 Goldwing tour dct and I absolutely love it. We can store two weeks of clothing with that and the bags & trunk. Very easy to mount and use without using straps.
@motorider4130 Жыл бұрын
Why not just flip the cargo tray over so you have a flatter surface to mount a bag to? You might lose that anti-rattle screw usage but you could put a larger bag etc on without issue.
@cruisemansgarage Жыл бұрын
I suppose you could do that.

Hitch on a motorcycle is something I've never understood. Where is the fun of riding? Being able to use its size getting into tight spaces? Ease of maneuvering in traffic? If I need to take lots of stuff, I'd take a car and trail a bike.

1000 % agree with you.

It may have been a different brand, but I've seen FB posts where the bracket gave way where the tubes slide in. They may have over loaded the rack, but I'd be careful.

I'm looking at getting C-WAY'S Canoe 2.0+ rack this winter. With their hitch design I think it's a nicer solution...albeit, alot more expensive than Showchrome's.

Did you ever find a decent bag that fits this rack. Just curious...I'm looking.

How much weight can you carry on this rack Is it limited to your tongue weight when you haul a trailer

How about the heat coming from the exhaust pipes would it not melt plastic coolers? Or soft bags ?
@cruisemansgarage Жыл бұрын
Not sure the exhaust is THAT hot to melt a plastic cooler. And, the exhaust should mostly travel under the bag. It could get some exhaust dirt and grime, however.

Does it block your license plate when u put something on it?
@cruisemansgarage Жыл бұрын
Anything more than 9" tall might.
@brucewaters4262 Жыл бұрын
How much weight could this hold. If I missed that in the video I’m sorry but I also checked the website and didn’t see anything This would be perfect for my tools at work but that could be up to 40 lbs
@cruisemansgarage Жыл бұрын
I don't think the issue is the rack, but the tongue weight capacity of the hitch itself.
@GEEwingingit Жыл бұрын
Will the Bag or Cooler get warm from the Exhaust?
@cruisemansgarage Жыл бұрын
Possibly, but it is sort of centered between the exhaust pipes.

Are tail gaters behind you going to notice that low down rack though?
@cruisemansgarage Жыл бұрын
If they are THAT close to you, they are probably going to hit you anyway.. We are only talking 9".

Didn't see a max carry weight? Does it reduce lean angle?
@cruisemansgarage Жыл бұрын
Only affects the angle if you are doing wheelies. I could not find a max carrying weight, but that is probably limited to the tongue weight capacity of your trailer hitch.
@philszeman7685 Жыл бұрын
What do they recommend for weight limit?
@cruisemansgarage Жыл бұрын
That will depend more on the tongue weight of your trailer hitch.
@kevinhawley8803 Жыл бұрын
Looks like you would automatically block the view of the license plate and that would be illegal
@cruisemansgarage Жыл бұрын
Some suggest taking a photo of the license plate, printing a copy and taping it to the back of a bag or cooler.
