I actually think Christianity in general, especially the endless torment camp, can be argued to be a form of Gnosticism. ie, you save yourself by obtaining special knowledge (the gospel). Anyway, I really enjoy this challenge. It's a heavily underrated gem on KZbin!

“Minor doctrinal issue” ? What then would be a major doctrinal issue?
@justin886511 ай бұрын
@jeffsikes4246 well christ gave us the two greatest ones. Love God with all your heart and all your mind and all your soul. Then love your neighbor as yourself. As a Christian we accept christ as divine part of the trinity. After these 3 things imo everything else is minor.
@jeffsikes424611 ай бұрын
@@justin8865 I would have to strongly disagree with you on your top three doctrines but will definitely acknowledge the first two as superior. With that being said, the doctrine of endless punishment directly contradicts those two and therefore would be an equally important doctrine to divide over. It’s fundamental! Whereas you can reject the Trinity doctrine (as I do) and still hold to the most important doctrines of Love God and neighbor.
@justin886511 ай бұрын
@jeffsikes4246 uh brother the trinity is one of the core concepts to being a Christian. The Bible tells us only God can forgive sin. Christ on earth clearly had the authority to forgive sin, this one of the reasons the teachers of the law were angry with christ. Therefore christ is indeed God. Hence Christianity part being emphasized. Feel free to believe what you want but core fundamental component of Christianity and the teachings of the canonical Bible. Hell on the other hand wethere you believe it or not is not a requirement for salvation. Thus its not a major doctrine.
@jeffsikes424611 ай бұрын
@@justin8865 I suppose you did not notice at all that you did not actually address my reasoning on why ECT is a “major” doctrine and why the Trinity doctrine is not. Instead you just appealed to an argument from authority and tradition. To address your one valid point about Christ’s authority to forgive sins, where does scripture say He gets that authority? Was it given to Him? Anyway, the Trinity doctrine is not a deal breaker for me as I am aware enough that the nature of God is far beyond me and my understanding. The union of Christ to the Father is largely a mystery. Why should I draw a line in the sand, be so arrogant as to wrap the infinite God in neatly packaged box and demand doctrinal authority. That seems to lack any grace and therefore is breaking the most important command “love thy neighbor”.

It’s a fascinating piece of Christian history that Augustine’s mother let him live at home despite his promiscuity, however, when he followed Manichaeism for a short period, she kicked him out. Oddly enough, the doctrine of endless torment reflects manichaeism’s teaching that evil and good will endure for eternity. Christian eschatology rooted in scriptures assures us that God will destroy evil in all its forms. The Second Death is where Death and Hell go to die and all that has been contaminated and corroded by sin will be purged and restored anew. The silver and gold of human souls must be purged of the corrosion of sin through cleansing, refining fire. The fire of God’s love. For God says “Look, I make all things new!” This IS the Christian Hope. Evil in all its forms is overcome by The Good.

Do you have any videos about how to deal with the depression/isolation of coming to universalism? I see hope and clarity, but I'm scared that I'm wrong and I'm scared that I cannot find a church near me that doesn't preach hell as the central motivation of the gospel.
@thetotalvictoryofchrist983811 ай бұрын
I am going to address that and explain how I deal with that personally. I simply don't harp on this with other believers, this isn't a critical church doctrine and the main thing is that you are a follower of Christ and his commandments. So for me it's not a them against us kind of thing, I treat it as what it is, a soteriological theory. In short, don't isolate yourself. As for the depression that is a medical issue I can't address here, I'm not a medical doctor.

Unpopular opinion: I think you can find enough biblical support for all three major views (ie, annihilation, endless punishment, and universal reconciliation). Personally, I'm just not convinced that God would leave us with such a vague situation, and then punish us for getting it wrong. I also think the transaction model of salvation (ie, I do/say/believe XYZ so that God saves me from hell) is actually kind of insulting to God, as it reduces him to the role of a passive slave who simply does whatever we tell him to do. If Jesus' sacrifice alone was not good enough, then I don't see how there's anything we could say, do, or believe to make it better.

Very interesting video. I can only speak from my direct experience, but it seems that most actions are involuntary. For example. breathing, beating heart, cell growth etc. The same with thoughts and feelings, most of the mind seems subconscious. Where do thoughts and desires spring from and can we control our thoughts and desires or are they involuntary and just happening? Please don't misunderstand me, when I say that religions and faiths seem to impose double binds which seem to condemn us. For example Paul talks about the power of the Law which condemns us. But doesn't the comandments to pray and trust in God? If you trust God what is the point of prayer? Maybe anxiety or fear? If you do pray, then you are not trusting God, but on the verge of doubting God or have selfish motives? Where does that come from? Perhaps faith in God is the motivating force out of fear of judgement? But isn't this motive to save one's skin? Perhaps everything that happens is out of our control? In which case our actions and thoughts which seem random to us are not ours but God's will?

One question I’d be interested to hear you discuss: If baptism is necessary for salvation, and we know some were not baptized during life, how can they be saved? There might be some scriptural reasoning for believing in post-mortem repentance, but what about post-mortem baptism? This has been a personal stumbling block for me as of late. Thank you. Mark 16:16 “He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.”
@markj230511 ай бұрын
Consider it is not the water or just a belief/mental ascent of Jesus existing "Satan believes & trembles", but the deeper spiritual meaning & effects. A baptism of repentance, of a changed mind much more than a law telling us of right & wrong, but to a real realization of rightness beyond that the scribes & Pharisees believed. I think Father has a big lake for all to be baptized in post mortem if one misses it here. Better to be alive now, alive to all the goodness we are made for!
@thetotalvictoryofchrist983811 ай бұрын
Baptism is a commandment and therefore necessary if you want to call yourself a follower of Christ. But everyone will ultimately be Baptized. John the Baptist said, “I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire." - Matt. 3:11 NIV

Infernalism is what actually comes from Plat, he taught it clearly in Gorgias. And I have seen no primary evidence that ANY ancient Gnostics were Universalists, the name itself refers to their belief that you need to have special Knowledge to be saved.

I think that very idea is not far from what endless torment preaches. ie, you save yourself by obtaining special knowledge not of this world (ie the gospel) and believing it. ECT teaches that God is not control - we are. We get saved because we tell God what he wants to hear; this activates the salvation blood magic and this is how we save ourselves. I respect UR because this view accepts that any salvation that happens is completely in God's hands. It's funny - ECT lands all kinds of slurs and garbage into God's basic character, capabilities, and motives, but no one ever "worries" about that. In fact most embrace it.
@MrHwaynefair11 ай бұрын
Ironically - Regarding the charge of being "rooted in Platonism" - there is absolutely no part of the Church that has been more deeply influenced by "Platonism" than the Eastern Orthodox Church! Plato is often the "whipping boy" of many apologists who oppose universal reconciliation - and is either very misunderstood or misrepresented by those who make such charges. The influence of Plato is "just there" even in many of the writings of the New Testament - and the early Church Fathers. I do not find that in the least scandalous - but always and everywhere acknowledge that "all Truth is God's Truth". Platonism - in God's providence - helped prepare the way for the full and final revelation of God in Christ. "Christian Platonism" does not adopt wholesale the philosophy of Socrates (recorded by Plato) - but take the truths revealed to him through natural revelation and intuition - then elevate them to (transpose them, if you will) into a "higher register" - as we find in Christ alone the reality of which Platonism is but a "shadow" - but to which it so strongly points... Thanks for this another wonderful video presentation!

So, we still do not want to go to eternal judgement, whatever it means. The Bible says it is the Second Death. We should want to accept the free gift of Salvation in this life and not have to find out in eternity afterwards what it all means. The Holy Righteous Father cannot have any sin or evil in His Presence. The only way to be in His Presence one day is accepting the Work on Calvary. I do agree this "Lake of Fire" could be a purifying process but it will still be very painful and for a set time. We also know on Judgement Day, the books will be taken out for those unsaved. Not all get the same punishment across the board. The Bible is not clear on what all this means. The best choice is to accept the work in Calvary now and learn how to follow Jesus Christ in this life. The Judgement of God is very severe, even if it is a set time. The Purification Process will be painful. We do not want to find out. My two cents. Even separation from God for a set time or an eternity is absolutely unbearable, fire or no fire. The Father must Judge and punish the very sin nature without the Blood of Calvary applied. Separation from the Father in the eternity state for however long is unbearable. We need to be very careful to not make God's Judgement less painful. I also believe a loving Father cannot totally torment all His Creation. Discipline, Punish, judge yes. Unending forever torment, no. But, I for one do not want to find out. I do not want to test God's Judgement character. No way.

False Theology, Mathematics and Physics: 1. The Genesis 1 character and the Genesis 2 character are the exact same character. 2. 0 is not-necessary and 1 is necessary (Newton calculus). 3. 0D is not-necessary and 1D is necessary (Newton physics). True Theology, Mathematics and Physics: 1. The Genesis 1 character and the Genesis 2 character are polar opposite characters. 2. 0 is necessary and 1 is not-necessary (Leibniz calculus). 3. 0D is necessary and 1D is not-necessary (Leibniz physics). The Church's interpretation of the Bible (where the Genesis 1 character and the Genesis 2 character are the exact same character) has near 70,000 contradictions and requires heavy apologetics. Know how to remove all those contradictions? Simply consider that the Genesis 1 character is the good guy and the Genesis 2 character is the bad guy. Elohim from Genesis 1 is a title. Yahweh Elohim (lit. Firstname Middlename) from Genesis 2 is a name faking like its a name and a title. Amos 5 Names of God Bible 27 I will send you into exile beyond Damascus, says Yahweh, whose name is Elohe Tsebaoth. What does Elohe mean? mighty one; God of Israel, the *name* which Jacob gave *to the alter* which he erected on the piece of land where he pitched his tent before Shechem, and which he afterwards purchased from the sons of Hamor ( Genesis 33:20 ). In the Quran: Allah is a name, not a title (Yahweh Elohim from Genesis 2 has 99 names in Islam). No more contradictions and no apologetics. True Bible. The New Testament perfectly reflects this theme of Title > Name from the Old Testament. Christ is a title. Jesus Christ (lit. Firstname Middlename) is a name faking like it's a name and a title. Contradictions are man-made errors. Why allow them in Bible interpretation? Just admit that Yah Tsebaoth (Yaldabaoth) from Genesis 2 is the Deciever. That's the guy the Church makes people call "the LORD God". God has titles (necessary) and the Devil has names (not-necessary). Why do you think we nailed Yah Tsebaoth to a tree? He earned it.

Pre-Babylonian captivity: El = God Elohim = sons of El (Holy Trinity, anyone?) Post-Babylonian captivity: El = God Elohim = God This is called "syncretization" and some biblical character referred to as the "harlot of Babylon" did the syncretizing. Below I've included a great reason why we should stop honoring such a dubious character's decision: Theology comes from combining two Greek words: Theos, meaning God, and Logos, meaning Word or rational thought. [The Word is Elohim from Genesis 1] (not to be confused with Yahweh Elohim, the false Elohim, from Genesis 2) Compare John 1: 1-5 with Genesis 1: 1-5: John 1: 1-5 Names of God Bible The Word Becomes Human 1 In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was already with God in the beginning. 3 Everything came into existence through him. Not one thing that exists was made without him. 4 He was the source of life, and that life was the light for humanity. 5 The light shines in the dark, and the dark has never extinguished it. Genesis 1: 1-5 Names of God Bible The Creation 1 In the beginning Elohim created heaven and earth. 2 The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep water. The Ruach Elohim was hovering over the water. 3 Then Elohim said, “Let there be light!” So there was light. 4 Elohim saw the light was good. So Elohim separated the light from the darkness. 5 Elohim named the light day, and the darkness he named night. There was evening, then morning-the first day. [Genesis 1 Elohim is a title and Genesis 2 Yahweh Elohim is a name; anyone with a name was given a name, a created being.] (Amos 5 Names of God Bible 27 I will send you into exile beyond Damascus, says Yahweh, whose name is Elohe Tsebaoth.) Compare: Hebrews 11 Names of God Bible 3 Faith convinces us that God created the world through his word. This means what can be seen was made by something that could not be seen. and: Romans 1 Names of God Bible 25 These people have exchanged God’s truth for a lie. So they have become ungodly and serve what is created rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen! with: Genesis 2 Names of God Bible 2 Heaven and earth and everything in them were finished. 2 By the seventh day ELOHIM had finished the work he had been doing. On the seventh day he stopped the work he had been doing. 3 Then ELOHIM blessed the seventh day and set it apart as holy, because on that day he stopped all his work of creation. The Creation of Man and Woman 4 This is the account of heaven and earth when they were created, at the time when YAHWEH ELOHIM made earth and heaven. (What is the difference between created and made? The difference between something being created and something being made is that when something is created it is brought into existence out of nothing. But, when something is made it has been formed out of something else that already exists.)

@@thetotalvictoryofchrist9838 Do you believe that the “Second Coming” happened in 70 AD? If so, does that mean there are no real “ends times”? Are we not waiting for Christ to return, if He already did in 70 AD in some kind of phantom way to destroy Jerusalem?
@thetotalvictoryofchrist983811 ай бұрын
@@thepyramidschemepodcast No, absolutely not, but the problem is that the judgment coming in 70 A.D. is commonly conflated with the final return of Christ and the resurrection of the dead at the end of the great age of ages (1 Thes. 4., Acts 1:11). Completely distinct events. That's how we ended up with Dispensationalism etc.

There is NO such thing as "Gnosticism"....this is a modern term coined by religious scholars to group all esoteric and mystical teachings that they don't understand into one neat little "heretical" package . It is derived from a simple Greek word ( gnosis ) meaning "knowledge", and it is used throughout the New Testaments texts . It refers to a specific kind of "knowledge", which is intimate and divine.......a knowledge of the TRUTH . ALL the "prophets" were "gnostic"......they were "seers" or "KNOWERS" .

The term predates christianity, but it has come to signify a group who believed the material world was evil and created by an evil God (the God of the old testament). Paul warns of this group in 1 Timothy 4. In 6:20 he says the group is ”falsely called knowledge”. There were traditions within Judaism and even the platonic traditions that taught personal experiential union with God, but they are completely different from what was later termed christian gnosticism.

@@JaakkoJohannes ..Yes, Hermetic thought derived from the Egyptian Hermes was well established at the time of Jesus.....as was the mystical teachings within Judaism itself that is called Kabbalah today. Esoteric teachings exist within all religions and Christianity is no different. The entire Bible is a complete "gnostic" text when understood properly.

@@TheWhyisthatsoYes indeed! If we speak of true gnosticism and not that garbage people have termed gnosticism which is in conflict with the true hermetic doctrine! I see you are an initiate. Good, keep carrying the torch brother.

If he only knew that “orthodox Christianity “ is not only wrong on endless punishment but nearly every doctrine they hold to.
