One of the greatest love stories of all time, Pride & Prejudice, comes to the screen in a glorious new adaptation starring Keira Knightley. When Elizabeth Bennett (Knightley) meets the handsome Mr. Darcy (Matthew MacFadyen), she believes he is the last man on earth she could ever marry. But as their lives become intertwined in an unexpected adventure, she finds herself captivated by the very person she swore to loathe for all eternity. Based on the beloved masterpiece by Jane Austen, it is the classic tale of love and misunderstanding that sparkles with romance, wit and emotional force. Critics are calling it "Exhilarating. A joy from start to finish" (Carina Chocano, Los Angeles Times).

If you have female hormones, Mr. Darcy certainly got your attention. The revisionist Mr. Darcy's (Matthew MacFadyen) early-morning walk (march) through the moors was the answer to the 1995 Darcy's (Colin Firth) dive into the lake (that was either to beat the heat or . . . .).

Yes! He always looking at her, from a far or close up. From the very moment he saw her (the Meryton assembly ball scene), then the Netherfield ball scene, to Rossings scene, the proposal in the rain, etc., etc., even in the Longbourn when Bingley came to propose to Jane but got too scared/embarassed. He always looking at her. Wow. I wish my husband looking at me the way Mr. Darcy looking at Lizzie. Lol.

At first, I was wondering why Lizzy just kissed his hand and said nothing. When I review the movie, when Mr. Darcy first proposed to Lizzy, he said "I love you. Most ardently. Please do me the honor of accepting my hand" but then Lizzy didnt accept it that time. In the ending, she held and kissed his hand. Now I understand, that gesture without words was her answer to him.

Was also a gesture of intimacy and recognition, even devotion, in that time single women had to be virginal and distant to be considered potential wifes, so such an intimate and devoted gesture is a way of telling him he is her man, that's why he inmediately understands that she accepts him

I could have done without that part. But I suppose that speechifying is not completely out of place in a period piece. At least they refrained from the wet kiss. If you ask me, the best part was when she took him by the hands and remarked at how cold they were. She showed more affection by that gesture than he did in his histrionics.

I know this is a joke, but I realized that many people dont know the meaning behind this. This line is supposed to mean that she is taking his hand, if you remember in his first proposal he asked her to take his hand, but since she didnt do it then she did it now as a symbol of accepting. So it might sound pretty weird, but it has a big meaning behind it

What I truly love about this movie is in this scene when they kiss it is the only time throughout the entire movie they do kiss. It proves you do not need to have sex scenes in a romantic movie to make it romantic. The anticipation of waiting for them to finally realize they love each other and finally kiss and then when it happens is what makes it so completely, perfectly, and utterly romantic.

By all accounts, he is a bad father, husband and master. He doesn't even care that much for Lizzy, otherwise, he would listen to her concerns more as far as Lidia and improper behaviour and would actually save some money for them etc. If anything needed some effort from him, he couldn't be bothered- not really, and that doesn't speak of great care.

Tonight I watched this movie for the third time and JUST noticed Darcy's double take when seeing Elizabeth at the ball for the first time. I believe he fell for her in that exact moment. She fell too, although it takes much longer for her to be honest with herself about this fact. After seeing that, I closely watched their body language throughout the film and was astounded at the gravity of what was conveyed so subtly through their eyes and expressions. My favorite part was during their fight when she says she would never marry a man like him and they almost kiss. The delicacy, subtlety and subtext of that and other key moments makes this movie truly special.

Darcy never thought or dreamed that he would meet someone, of all places, at the Herfordshire Ball. It was his first jolt. Although Lizzy was of landed gentry, she not in the same financial class as he and Bingley. I thought that Darcy became really aroused the first time when Lizzy asked him if he danced. The surprise look on his face. He stared at her the entire time that she was dancing with others. The second time was the poetry discussion and that dancing arouses affection, but only if one's partner is "barely tolerable." She let him know that she overheard his opinion of her. It challenged him. For Darcy, it was on!

so many comments are making fun of how Elizabeth is not saying anything in this first scene in the field, I understand it's a joke, but listen, he's telling her to say something if she doesn't want him: Mr. Darcy: "One word from you will silence me forever" Elizabeth: doesn't say a word. So clever. And then she just takes his hand, which she rejected before. She doesn't need to say anything in this scene, this gesture says it all.

I don't find the 2005 version appealing. It focuses too much on the architecture and landscape of the British countryside and departs from the irony and values of Jane Austen way too much. The 1995 version is much more authentic - although I find Matthew MacFayden to be a much more handsome Mr. Darcy than Colin Wirth.

I love how Darcy in this movie went from stiff clothing to wearing more comfortable outfits, and finally, dressing down in private moments with Lizzy, especially in the last scene. It's like a visual cue of his character development. What I also love about this adaptation is that it showed how people are not always prim and starched up in the confines of their home, like the scene where Mrs. Bennet reclined on the sofa and the house was cluttered before Bingley and Darcy showed. It makes the movie much more relatable.

I know right. This whole movie is so perfect at showing realistic things. Like socially awkward, how no one is perfect, and even that love doesn’t have to start at the first glance. It seemed that they had such strict principles that even a kiss with a wrong person bothered them. It is curious how we interpreted the same scene differently. For me it was quite the opposite, really. It was like her touch burned him for how he felt about her. He wanted to touch her and that was his opportunity by helping her to get into the carriage and that is why she was surprised he did it.

I don't think he was trying to shake her off, even then he was slowly falling in love with her but trying to deny it due to the reasons he gives in the first proposal. The flex is more in the typical romance movie kinda way of 'omygosh-i-just-touched-her-im-never-washing-that-hand-again'. In that moment he flexes his hand as if to pretend that didn't happen because he is in denial of his growing love of her (which is due to his pride) but really he is having severe butterflies. P.S. only my opinion don't be mad if you don't agree.

I agree he wanted to touch her hand, and wanted her to know he wanted to, but then shocked at his own reaction, as if he felt electric shock waves at their slightest touch, and he had to calm himself with that hand flex. She seemed to feel it as well on some level, though she would very much want to deny it at that point in the story. I love that scene, in any case.

"He and I are so similar!" It's generally accepted that "pride" refers to Darcy and that "prejudice" refers to Elizabeth...but the truth is that both words describe both of them. Darcy is "prejudice" as well as "pride" because he really is a bit of a snob in the beginning -- and Elizabeth is "pride" as well as "prejudice" because even though she's fairly realistic about herself and her life, she does flatter herself just a little when it comes to her opinion of her own perception and wit.

after watching the film 14 times and pretty much knowing the entire movie script you realise every look mr darcy gives elizabeth and the moments, even in the very beginning he looked at her for a second longer than everyone else and immediately turned ahead as if he was shocked, you can see so much subtle emotion in his eyes especially when he regrets not speaking more to elizabeth or when he feels guilty. but mostly over the movie you see him fall completely in love with her through just his eyes. there are little scenes that lead up to this, one in nether field when elizabeth is announced intro he room, he looked at the servant, looks down to his paper but then when he hears her name he looks back up again. IDK I JUST WANTED TO SAY HOW CUTE THEY ARE LMAO

To a modern audience especially an American audience it's implying that they are back at Pemberlly and about to have intimacy because it's implied that they are now married. One of the things I really don't like about the Keira Knightley version is that they don't show the wedding at all. I know that's playing to modern controversy over religion and expectations. But it just ruins the ending for me. If they had had some kind of wedding scene of the double wedding with them all dressed up and just smiling at each other and the minister says I Now pronounce you husband and wife. Each couple kisses and they face the audience They all smile like idiots and then it cuts immediately to this scene that would have been fine. but ALL weddings back then were religious and Hollywood going so far as to cut even that 3 to 5 Seconds out of the movie just pisses me the hell off. Society of England at the time was super religious compared to now and you just have to suck that up when you're doing a historical movie.

Elizabeth is a talkative, headstrong, witty girl who we always see giving her opinion and sometimes speaking out of turn. Yet when she realizes Mr Darcy is the man who exceeds her expectations and who shows her true love all she can do is show him her feelings with ger actions shyly instead. She. Is. Speechless. That is just such a cute moment for me thanks for coming to my TED talk😂😭

I actually like it better without the alternate ending. The scene that always stuck with me in this movie is the scene with Elizabeth and her father with him happily laughing at the end. We've already seen the confessions of love between Elizabeth and Darcy. We really didn't need another scene for that. The scene with the father was all about the "pride" and "prejudice" that Darcy and Elizabeth along with Elizabeth's family had towards each other finally melting away. It's perfect. I wouldn't necessarily say the added scene ruins anything. But it doesn't really contribute anything, either.
