There is a reason why Who’s on First? became Abbott & Costello’s signature routine. The two of them got so good at performing this skit that they could lengthen or shorten it on the fly, and the two of them would play off each other as naturally as if they had rehearsed everything beforehand.

the funny thing is, when you break it down slowly and examine the words for grammatical accuracy.. the whole thing holds up perfectly. It is the easiest thing to do - slipping up - especially during the bits with the most cadence, and yet they deliver it without a single deviation. This is an education in setting up an extremely funny premise and using it to produce a tight, accurate and edge of the seat comedy.

I first read this in a book about comedy in the school library and got hushed for laughing, it was the only time I couldn’t control my laughter in the whole book.

My personal favourite moment was @1.51: that brief pause as Lou's trying to process what Bud said is golden! And I believe that the only cut they did was after Lou broke the stage lights @0.20. You can see this because Bud has slightly different body movements in-between the two scenes. Otherwise, they performed it straight the entire way through, which was amazing.

They performed this routine on the radio many times before they ever got it on film. They were old hands at it by the time they filmed this, so being able to get through it in one [continuous] take was easy for them.

It is an utter crime that people do not talk about these two the same kinda of awe and respect as other pop culture icons. These two were my childhood alongside some other choice characters, and of deep personal inspiration, truly the undisputed kings of the comedy duo. *Here are some of my favorites I'd recommend to anyone who would come across this comment:* 1) Meet the Invisible Man 2) The Time of Their Lives 3) Naughty Nineties 4) The Wistful Window of Wagon Gap 5) Hold that Ghost
