The MTG sets and schedule for 2025 has been revealed BUT what you can play and where has dramatically changed. How do you feel about standard plus other formats going forward. This is HUGE!

Indeed, fast profit from new players spoon feeding them the next NEW BIG THING every 8 weeks. While many long term players look at Magic becoming diluted and its worrying when the game has such a longstanding player base.

@ I’ve not payed attention to UB for along time since until now it didn’t effect anything I was playing. But do we have anything other than WOTCs word for it that it’s even onboarding new players?

The problem with UB before is that it was only was allowed in places were people might not have a chance to be competitive. But... they could have distinguished between fantasy and non-fantasy at least. D&D, FF, LOTR sure, but Spiderman, Warhammer and Doctor Who - that'll feel soo wierd. At least they won't have to super-push some UB cards any more to push product for non-rotating formats.

With it all being standard legal if Foundations is anything to go by- each set in 2025 will have chase powerful cards and there will be games thanks at fnm littered with UB cards that dilute the theme and feel of each plane.

It’s bad in a way that genuinely makes me sad. This is pretty much the end of the game as I’m concerned. I do wonder how this will work in the long term for wizards as this really feels like a complete a twist of the knife for the players who have been in it for more than a decade.

I agree - it's all short term, bleed the customer dry and then draw newer players in with the next UB theme they think will be popular and sell loads. Foundations pre release next week my LGS told me tonight. I will not be taking part...possibly the 1st p/r missed in 8 - 9 years. UB sets such as Spiderman I will also stay clear of. This is a very sad time for many player and standard...well, what the hell is that going to be like? Not the Magic many expect and enjoy.

I love Marvel... But Marvel tcg is weird... FF fits with the fantasy theme, but Marvel is too modern and will cringe like Duskmourn's survivors.

I am the same but for FF I loved it, FF7 is my all time favourite game. Played it for 2 weeks solid when it came out. Huge story, characters and locations...quality. BUT do I want it merged into Magic...no. UB products in standard now means I will not be buying UB product when a set comes out. Singles if I really need a card but if it ruins the theme of a MAGIC deck I will not be using it.
