Grew up in East Oakland and spent some time on campus as a teenager (was even in the Young Musicians Program a couple of years) so, even though I eventually attended UC Davis and then the University of Arizona (Bear Down!), seeing these pics of Cal - especially during a typical rainy day probably in July in Berkeley...makes me feel like I'm back home. (And my brother is a proud Cal Bear alum.)

Better at looking like a business park instead of an academic university, yes. The brick buildings at UCLA are hideous and not how a university should look. Berkeley looks like a real academic institution.

William Zavlaris Exactly. Berkeley's architecture is classic and artful. It's also very symbolic as it calls back to the ancient Greek academies, and helps signal that Berkeley is the place of learning in the west. UCLAs only architecturally interesting buildings are Royce and Powell Halls. The rest of the campus is ugly and monotonous brick, blocky buildings.

That place is gold plated turd, you'll understand, later. It's OK to admit mistakes, real easy when you were younger. College is big business, your the customer, always remember that. Always remember the amendment about free speech. Good advertisement though, lots of gold.
