This is spot on! It leaves out how fantastic the advisors are, and how every aspect of the school is AMAZING. If anyone is thinking about USF (tampa campus especially) GO THERE! Especially for undergrad, if you are a highschool student and think you need to go to the best ranked school you can, if you are not going to an Ivy League school, do not think UF or FSU beats USF, it's wrong. Post-grad is different.

Mr FreshBest yes. uf->um->fsu->usf/ucf-> others (usf is ranked higher but ucf has more classes and major/minor. of course there’s far more students there as well)

Don't think that the courses that your going to be doing at USF is going to be easy! Life at Tampa already is I guess . Critically thinking is a big part in getting your studies/work on. You have to find a way to go through it and get high grades cause that's an great opportunity in my eyes to go to such a beauitful University.

I went to USF. It was a pretty nice experience, though I didn't get directly into the upper division of my program. I miss the good ole Safe Team!

READ THIS and as far as I know, BOTH are great, but USF would be all around better than U.T. If you're planning on going into marine biology as a profession... It isn't wise to major in marine biology (unless you're a double major). Marine biology is mostly a graduate school field. An undergraduate degree in marine biology is not required, nor is it recommended. It is difficult to branch out from marine biology into other fields for grad school. What is far, far more important is getting the necessary biology (cellular biology, molecular biology, comparative physiology, genetics, developmental biology, ecology, evolutionary biology, vertebrate and invertebrate zoology, microbiology, and botany), biochemistry, organic chem, physical chem, physics, calculus, statistics, computer science and possibly geology and differential equations that you need to succeed in the field. There are many summer programs that one can and should participate in to gain some background in marine biology, which will be far more helpful than marine biology courses. Independent research is often strongly recommended, if not required, for marine biology grad programs, so seek out schools that actively support undergraduate research. Marine biology is a subset of oceanography (often called biological oceanography) and is by far the most popular branch (chemical, geological, and physical oceanography being the other three), so the availability of jobs is not high. Many, many schools can provide you with the proper undergraduate background for a career in marine biology. Many of these schools aren't even located on the coast. I strongly suggest picking a school strong in the basic sciences and math. Specializing at this point is a very bad idea. It's often possible to study marine biology for a semester or a year through programs like the Duke marine lab, SEA Semester, or Williams-Mystic. Alternately, you could expand your horizons by studying abroad and studying marine biology at the same time. James Cook in Australia or Bangor in Wales, for example. For research opportunities, there are a number of awesome REU programs in oceanography, which pay for virtually all of your summer costs. Marine Biology Degree Programs in the U.S. The College of the Atlantic is the best school for undergraduate marine science, bar none. Among the elites, Duke, Brown, Stanford, UNC, and Cornell have strong marine science programs. UCLA, UCSB, UCSD, Occidental, Stanford, Humboldt State, Oregon State, U Oregon, UW, Hawaii-Manoa, Alaska-Fairbanks, U Miami, Eckerd, U Maine, U Florida, URI, and the 5 College Consortium are other good options.
