Lord Richard Attenborough gives a response after being made a Distinguished Honorary Fellow of the University of Leicester. This is the highest award the University presents. Recipients already have an Honorary Degree from the University of Leicester, but have continued to engage in distinguished service within the University. At any one time there are only 24 recipients of this award.
Lord Richard Attenborough's association with the University began when his father was the Principal of the University College from 1932-51. Their former home, College House, is in the heart of the campus. Lord Attenborough's association with the University of Leicester continues with the Richard Attenborough Centre which was opened in 1997 by Diana, Princess of Wales. The centre offers everyone a chance to participate in the arts without barriers, in ways that challenge and inspire.
