Tim, good video. What I got from this video was to enjoy the fruits of your labor. Thanks, Chris

Agreed! I enjoyed your presentation about the virtues of original pressings. The originals encompass the five senses; sound, sight, touch, taste (i.e. good), and even smell. There is an avalanche of original pressings to be found these days at a fair price. You do have to live in an area that has a "critical mass" of people that in the past have purchased and listened to records. Get them while you can as many people are looking for these entertaining art objects.

Well said! I like to think I’m in a good place as the second largest University is here. I can imagine College Professors in the 60’s buying these grails in Denver on weekends and then bringing them home to their homes. Occasionally, really nice originals will surface in my local used shops.

Great to find your channel! Just yesterday I was beginning to remove things from my barn which has a big hole in the roof. I found a box of records marked Misc. Jazz. I had put these and other records in there over 25 years ago. I found 5 original Brubeck albums, all original and near mint condition. I don't remember where I bought this lot from, but I had a great time putting them in the turntable this morning.

Full agree... Lovely finds Tim! I don't have many 1st pressings in Jazz. I do have several early black 'B' and other ones that sound really good though. However, since I have been collecting vinyl for about 45 years I do indeed have hundreds of 1st Rock, New Wave, etc., pressings, simply because I bought them when they came out... 😊 Thus I can claim, through no real brilliance on my part because I just bought it when it came out, that I do have a 1st US pressing of Nevermind, amongst others. BTW, I went ahead and bought that translucent vinyl pressing of Signals. I'm looking forward to hearing it and comparing it to my 1st Club pressing, which like I mentioned, quite honestly does sound very good. Appreciate your input and help with that Tim, thank you!

Tim, do you have a general preference between mono and stereo with these vintage jazz records, RVG and otherwise?
@Universityofvinyl3 сағат бұрын
I’m a fan of true Stereo unless it’s pre ‘63 and Mono was the 1st format\presentation of a particular album. I just enjoy a bit of imaging and separation in the stereo era.

I have to disagree with you on the need to spend buckets of money for a first pressing of a record The jazz field is filled with great sounding reissues by Blue Notes Classic and Tone Poet series Other labels are reissuing classic albums that are all analog and sound wonderful The need for spending hundreds of dollars for a OG copy is overrated in my opinion
@Universityofvinyl20 сағат бұрын
@davepounds8924 Well, kind of the main point of this episode was focusing on “obtainable” originals that aren’t hundreds of dollars.

Nope. Reissues cut off the trailing edges of the music. There not there anymore. Decays are cut off. This effects the true tone of the recording. Early pressings for me all day.

@@GordonPyzik Good for you. Everytime I have compared an RVG stamped Blue Note to a Kevin Gray reissue. I have always preferred the tonal balance of the Kevin Gray and generally sold the RVG version. In any event the sound differences weren't that great to begin with assuming you have a clean early pressing. Playing a vg+ Blue Note with surface noise is insane to me when you can get a mint all analog reissue at an affordable price.
