Nicole Rose one thing I would say is not over pack I over packed You honestly need the essentials and make sure you have flip flops and shoes you don't mind getting dirty/wet Otherwise just pack some tops swimming kit joggers hoodies 2 pairs of shoes to do activity in Some shoes/slippers to wear around the accommodation Snacks Change (in case no service so you have to use a pay phone) Towel and all that-comb cream etc

I’m doing mine at the moment, and we’re doing a portable sensory garden at the children’s hospital next week. My group are all best friends and most of us have only known each other for 2 weeks. They forgot that my friend was dairy intolerant and didn’t have anything she could eat either, and she went home early because they gave her pasta with dairy in it. They were very supportive though, as they tried with what organisation they had, especially when my anxiety flared up in the middle of the week the leaders were so supportive. We were allowed in each other’s room but not different buildings (there were about 20 per building), but my best friend snuck into my building one night and one of the leaders knew and just let her.

I was in the same wave as you! If you're not an extrovert it's really hard and you will get tired and not enjoy bits of it. I was so so so glad when the 3 weeks were over but glad I did it because it was an experience and great for my CV. Overall as an introvert I would never do it again and didn't enjoy anywhere near as much as you Jade but I would recommend doing it to anyone considering because you feel quite fulfilled and proud of yourself once you've finished.

Everyone's NCS experience will be different and your team will never make you do something you're uncomfortable with! A guy on our team was terrified of heights and we all encouraged him to try climbing, he got on the wall and decided he didn't want to but we all were there for him and understood, honestly you'll meet some amazing understanding people at NCS who'll feel just like you

this really made me excited for ncs, and i just finished it 2 days ago and honestly it was one of the best experiences ever, and even if you are shy like me you will make friends! though things do depend on luck a lot. i did it with a friend and everyone in her group was so nice and her senior mentor was such a legend, she bought them pizza and is going to take them to thorpe park as a reunion. i only made one good friend in my group and my senior mentor just stuck to the rules and didnt really get involved. that was all fine apart from the fact that we literally did everything in our groups and i got into trouble a few times for joining the other group when i got bored of everyone in my group sitting on their phones lmao. but i would 100% reccomend it, i wasnt bored once during those 3 weeks!!

Jowita Dudzik I went on ncs last week (phase 1)- I'm pretty introverted and honestly often I really didn't know what to say to people, but you're pretty much forced to make friends. The extroverted people in your group will come up and talk to you if you don't. This was something I was worried about but wow it was so easy to make friends even if you have nothing in common, don't stress about it.

@@cookiee._ honestly the best advice I can give is just go for it. Every place is different but I managed to conquer things I never thought I would be able to and then go back and do them again in the future. As silly as it sounds just be yourself and have fun and I can promise you if you just allow yourself to have fun it will be the best weeks of your life. I went in 2019 and I still talk about it now. Anything you wanted to know I'm particular just let me know :)

I'm in middle of phase 1 in NCS. I came in really optimistic yet nervous, because I'm not a very sociable person but I'd like to get better. There are so many confident, outgoing people here who get on with everyone, are really funny and work great as a team, but I'm finding it really hard. I don't know how people like you Jade are able to go in knowing nobody, easily have conversations and end up being everyone's friend so quickly. I really admire their confidence but I just can't TALK to them. I feel like I always let the team down and that the few friends I made here initially are starting to loose interest in hanging out with me. I'm trying so hard to stay positive and make every moment worthwhile but it's difficult. I want this NCS experience to change me for the better, make me better at communication, being myself around new people without being awkward and able to be a good team member. Almost everyone else already is like that, so they've quickly formed their 'clique' that I feel is too late for me to be a part of. Plus there was a girl in my room who was had autism and a mental illness. It was difficult working with her but I really wanted to talk to her, understand her, make her feel welcome, but I feel like I didn't do enough and she still ended up having to go home early because she was too upset. When I watch videos about NCS like this one everyone says it was amazing from beginning to end, but this has been a bit of an emotional roller-coaster. Not gonna lie there were a few tears. I just really wish I always knew what to do and what to say. Sorry for the long emotional comment for anyone who even read this far. I just needed to vent. Sitting outside on my own while everyone is eating dinner as I write this lol.

I did NCS two years ago now and it sounds like it's gotten so much better, we didn't get to choose any kind of like topic for our groups they were just random, and our second week was advertised as uni halls but we actually stayed at a scout camp, which was a building with one small sort of sports hall like room, a tiny kitchen and a 3 boys toilets and one girls toilet. The whole team had to sleep in the one room in tents because we weren't technically allowed to share a room🙄 We also didn't have any showers so only got to shower when we went out to sports centres which was twice during the week🙃 I loved it, it was a great time, but not what they told us it was gonna be...

Before I watched this video I was adamant about not even giving a thought, but nevertheless by friends said they would go after exams next year so when I saw this video I thought I'll watch it anyway. I did outward bound last month in the Lake District and I HATED it, but I got through it, didn't I? Although it was a tough week I learned something about myself, I am capable of so much more than I restrict myself to. I'm considering going, and not because my friends are because they would pick a whole different skill to me and I'm kinda open to making new friends. I think if I can walk up some hill in Ullswater and make it through and look back it now more maturely and without spite, i can look at NCS differently. So thanks Jade for really opening my mind!

I'll see what I can do!! The first week no one honestly cares what you wear - definitely more outdoorsy clothes! The second week I wore nicer casual clothes. I also recommend bringing soap on Week 2 as our uni accommodation didn't have it! Hope this helps 💫 x

I know i'm a bit late with this reply as it's like 2018. But omg this was amazing I actually loved watching it so much, I especially loved when you said about the day when you di anything "high fiving strangers" and all of that and it looked amazing. I'm going on NCS this summer and this video has just made me so much more excited to go thank you so much.
