I already love this series! I've been looking for Journaling prompts because I can write nothing except fiction and I NEED to write down my feelings (according to my advisor)😅 My advisor told me I care too much about other people and their needs and hinder my own, never knew that was a bad thing, hope I can understand and make this my "summer of self". Thank you for being such a good companion Jade, even though we're 6704 Km away, it feels nice to know that someone's out there caring for other people and themselves like you do, it inspires me a lot and makes me believe I can do it too😊❤️

The job I applied to and got accepted is my biggest challenge. I will be a student brand ambassador, do graphic designs for the company as well in addition and right now even do a little of recruiting. I taught myself graphic design, so I get a little anxious about whether it is good, and for the rest, I just never did it before. I used to do summer camp jobs because I was sooo in my comfort zone. Yees, and I want to take one online class, get intermediate in Excel and drop my first KZbin video as a studytuber. I really enjoyed your first video Jade, am so excited for the rest. Been writing letters to my friends, started pen paling with some of them, lots of reading, working out, spending time outside, and just being without the pressure of taking pictures of everything or myself for the sake of getting a good pic for Instagram. *If anyone cares to read this long story about my travel anxiety and how I am trying to overcome it thank you, sorry its so damn long* For me I have always had desires of travel since I was a young teen (now 23) and my parents had never really taken me anywhere. I live pretty much in the middle of nowhere, pretty remote, and away from many people. I left my home state in the US once, and didn't fly on a plane, take a train, or drive really anywhere (unless I was with my parents) until I was past the age of 18. On Top of this lack of exposure, my parents are so so fearful of the world. I have been SO aware of how 'dangerous' the world is since I was literally a child and growing up more and more its just lead to incredible anxiety. Here were the people who I am meant to learn that the world is manageable and all they taught me was that everything is scary, the only safe place is off the grid, and other countries are just filled with horrible people who will kidnap me and kill me. SO. That led to so much fear but still this desire to travel and see the world, and not stay trapped where I am. This caused me to kind of attach myself to friends who were more experienced with travel than me, and basically manipulate them into traveling with me in order to experience it. But this was very bad because I was emotionally attaching myself and manipulating people to help me instead of taking power in myself to do it for myself. I finally went on a plane with a friend for the first time in my life at 21, it was an hour long, and one of the best and also anxiety inducing experiences of my life. I took the bus by myself to and from my apartment to my university for three years, I took the train by myself down to a town near me to visit a friend. These were all things that have improved my travel anxiety, but oh god is it still such a huge struggle. In September I will be taking my first solo flight across my country, 5-6hrs away, and I am terrified, but trying to work myself out of my anxiety as I get closer to the date. I try to focus on my routine when in the air, my knowledge that planes are safe, and my excitement to visit the new place I will be in once I am there. Telling myself that I can trust myself to navigate scary new places like a big airport that I have never been in before. *long story short* comfort zones (from what I have found) can be parented and taught into us, and it is important as we go forward into adulthood that we make up our own decisions about the world and our own limits to life. If you also felt too scared to travel anywhere, have fear around transportation, I was right there with you not two years ago, you can do it, and you can do it safely, it will be okay, you got this.
@levipotatowindex82633 жыл бұрын
I had a lot of travel anxiety, but I've flown by myself a few times (22 now) both domestically and internationally. And when I say that there are a lot of people that are also nervous (in terms of getting lost) at airports, trust me, there is (so you're in good company). Some of the best things that I can recommend is just being polite and asking for help, and youll get to where you need to go. Also, try to view a map of the airport before hand and look up standard requirements for going through the airport departure/arrival. It really can help you feel a bit more prepared and in control. Also, for any anxiety with flying, planes are incredibly safe forms of transportation, because not only are they engineered by top minds--they are operated by seasoned pilots with well over 20 years of experience (most of the time) in the field. It'll be ok. I used to be scared of them, but considering I've been in 2 car accidents, I know at this point that it's much safer to fly. TL;DR: Flying by yourself is scary (especially with all the covid mandates now, eugh), but like you said, you can do it!

Do you have trouble locating directions and remembering it ? i'm 15 and I have the same problem as you and I'm glad you got over it and challenged yourself, in fact I'm still afraid and I suffer from constant anxiety when I go out alone or go to school my parents made me fear the outside world since i was a kid , I don't want to be an obstacle to anyone and I don't want to get attached to people just because they can help me and I feel safe around them I hope to overcome this problem soon, because after I graduate from high school I have to face this world on my own and my parents expect me to become mature as soon as I turn 18 MAGICALLY sorry for my bad english
@Toonksbell433 жыл бұрын
@@herraisan9642 Your english is perfectly fine dont worry! :) thanks for asking these questions I really hope my answer can be of some help. In regards to anxieties when going out alone, I can relate completely and it took me a while to get through it and the biggest thing that helped was going to university in a city that wasn't too overwhelming, but was much bigger than my home town. I slowly gained the exposure I needed without fearing everything all the time (it was still scary but things gradually got easier). So my biggest advice for that would be either move to a city that you feel comfortable moving to that's not too overwhelming, or if that's not a possibility, then just try to gain some exposure slowly by making day trips places, maybe visit a friend by taking a train one time, until you start to feel more confident in traveling places on your own. As for directions, I try to look up directions for places using my phone or computer before I leave places so that I am really prepared, and then keep an extra phone charger and block on me at all times so that I can access maps, train schedules, bus schedules, flight information whenever my trip needs it through my phone. I try to see if the transportation company I am using has an app so that I have a schedule/ my ticket info all on my phone (example: delta airlines has an app, Amtrak the train has an app too I believe) those can be super helpful. Also you would be surprised how helpful a bus driver, train attendant, or store worker is when you ask for directions or location of a map. I was always scared of talking to them, but they have always been super helpful and nice whenever I ask them! Lastly (sorry for how long this is) remember that its okay to be aware of your surroundings because incase of trouble, but the world is not in general a horrible place like our parents may wish to make us believe. As long as we are cautious, plan ahead, and are confident we will be just as fine as everyone else. I really hope that you can gain the confidence to embrace the world as I am doing now, you have time so don't worry! You'll be able to do it!

Your parents recreated you in their image…weakness 😂 But don’t stress….oh sorry I forgot you can’t not stress😆 Jokes aside, all you need to do is get to know who YOU are. Ask yourself where did you get your identity from? You need to get this so that you can become who you were created to be.

This video reminded me that there is still time left, I can totally do things, and it gave me ideas for what to do and how to do it. And even this week I can work on it. Lots of small baby steps will also eventually bring you somewhere. Like printing out the syllabus for the courses starting in September. It didn't take me long and it's a step. Small, but it is one.

I’m autistic so living away from home for me was too overwhelming and I struggled with constant masking. However, I have learned I can expand my comfort zone even when living with my parents. Comfort zones are different for everyone and you can take moving out your comfort zone slowly if that is what you need to do to not break down. Like you Jade, I bought my first car last month and have been driving on my own! Even though I am autistic I completely agree that it is worthwhile expanding your comfort zone. However, do it in progressive steps if that will prevent you from feeling overwhelmed.

I also found that joining a drama club is so helpful for improving extreme fear of public speaking! I realized that no one really cares about the imperfect details of my speech which makes me self-conscious when I'm the one speaking (it sounds like an extension of the ways to cope with the imposter syndrome).

Jade, I have been following you for a while now and I love, love, love your channel. It almost feels like you're a long-distance friend of mine because it's incredible how many similarities we have... I'm also a vegetarian/vegan uni student studying abroad, I love learning and books and also wrote one, I have curly hair, went to an all-girls-school, have a little brother, had much difficulty passing my driver's license test (didn't work out in the beginning), I am interested in almost everything like you, didn't grow up in a town but on the countryside, always try to grow and reflect and step out of my comfort zone and much more. It almost scares me haha, but I also feel like it's so amazing to see someone so relatable for me going out there and doing all the stuff and being the person I want to be. But at the same time, you're so real and honest and you make mistakes like everyone else and you're so grown-up because you admit your flaws and that makes you even more special. You're such a role model and you motivate me in a way not many people can! Keep going girl, you're a miracle

☀️Video idea: Would love if you could talk about money. I mean it is usually treated as such a hush hush topic. Would love to know your views, beliefs and approach towards it. Saw you ig where you said you got into learning about investing too...so maybe a video on something that encompasses all the above topics...

your video has inspired a lot , esp when it comes to doing things alone. i find that scary too, but after this vid, i guess i need to expand my comfort zone by throwing myself out there, doing stuff on my own gradually and just enjoy that little discomfort

This video gave me the exact boost I needed. I always struggled with confidence, but now I am chronically ill. Even setting goals for myself is something generally out of my comfort zone. But I've been trying a new thing this year which is very similar to what you said at the end of the video. "A year from now, will I be proud of the effort I put in today?" and it could be effort in any number of departments: school, looking for part time work, expanding my social circle, or just taking time to rest and reset after an emotional rough patch. Thank you so much for this video! *virtual hug*

i'm going to be at uni in exactly a week and one of my main reasons for going has always been to expand my comfort zone. i was also mollycoddled throughout my life living under my stepmum's roof as she did most things for me. i know that i need and want to become an independent adult and so i feel in my heart that going to uni is such a smart step. i'm gradually stepping into the world of being an adult and i'm gradually expanding my comfort zone. i'm gradually immersing myself into the ocean (adulthood) from the shallow end and i'm learning how to swim along the way instead of diving into the deep end first and drowning ✨

Hi Jade ☀ I'm from Bahia, Brazil and I want to thank you so much for sharing your personal growth process. It's really inspiring to follow along and identify with so many difficulties you've had, like shivering every time you're going to speak in public (with me, my voice just cracks and my thoughts hang) and see how far you've come. I like your "people like us" and "you can do it too" feel. That's it, thanks again. xêro and hug

I just wanted to share my personal experience here because I'm proud of myself for coming this far! Also, I can 100% relate to that intro lol. I'm a medical student (not in the US) and as such, we have to be very sociable, talking to patients and doctors, doing presentation in front of thousands of people and such. All my life up until when I started medical school three years ago (I was 17-18 years old), I've struggled with social anxiety, I didn't dare to say hello to people, I would literally be too scared to ask a teacher if I could go to the bathroom, I couldn't talk to boys, I had low self-esteem, I'd always stay at home, I only had one friend... Sigh. It was hard. I was so sad because I felt like I was wasting my youth away. At the beginning of my second year, when we started going to the hospital, I would literally come home crying because I didn't dare to talk to patients, it was painful being in the hospital and I almost gave up on my dreams of being a doctor. It felt impossible. Everything was too hard. And then... I met a boy. I really liked him, despite the fact that I never saw him before. He was an upperclassman from university and we were talking on facebook. At first, I just wanted to ask him school related stuff but as time went on, it started clicking between us. He asked me out on a date. I've been asked on dates before but I never went because I was scared to death, that they'd find me ugly or awkward or I don't know. Yet somehow, that particular day, I went. I just told myself "fxck it, I'll go", got dressed and left. I forced myself not to think about anything, or else I would've found a way out of it for sure. Next thing I know, I'm face to face with him, seeing him for the first time and being on my first date ever. And we've been dating ever since, yay~ ^^ Ever since I started dating (he's my first boyfriend), I've dared to do countless things I thought I could never do before! Now I can talk to anyone, I go out and make new friends, I'm more active at the hospital, I topped in school, met my in-laws... I feel much happier, really! Just one year prior to that, I thought I'd always be that miserable and that my all life would always feel like such a failure. Yet here I am now :). Of course, all that happened little by little, at first I was still really shy but things got better as I continued to dare to do things. It feels scary at first but it's really rewarding! So, my point is... If nothing else works, maybe try falling in love? Haha. All jokes aside, sometimes daring to «just do it!», just once, can change your whole life forever. Sorry if I made y'all read my love story ^^ I just thought it could help someone. PS: But really, nothing else worked for me! I tried signing up for volleyball, to piano lessons, going to the local library, you know, just to try and "build up" as she says but I always failed miserably, drop out after a few days and then beat myself up about it :( sometimes, it felt almost physically painful.

The baby step thing is so correct! One of my goals this summer was to go swimming in the harbour where I live (everyone does it, it's a big social thing), but I was scared of deep water and hadn't swam in over ten years. I started by just going to the beach and walking in the water, then swimming off the beach with enough space to stand, then climbing the ladder down into the harbour and letting go for a minute, to finally happily swimming in deep water! It took a few weeks but I smashed the walls down of my old comfort zone and now regularly go swimming :)

This really resonated with me. I hate driving on highways, and it took me way longer to get my drivers license (after like 4 years of practicing). Also, this type of thinking kinda reminds of CBT, a type of therapy used when ppl have phobias or get a lof of anxiety from certain things. You slowly work yourself towards overcoming these fears. It is amazing!

I’m going to work on my comfort in social situations and talking to people. I think there’s both an inner and outer part to this - when I’m comfortable with myself and grounded in my worth, I won’t be so concerned with embarrassing myself in public or not being fully accepted by others. When you know who you are, you don’t need others to affirm it to you so much. But as for the outer part, I’m going to keep saying yes to all social opportunities I can and seek some out as well! And doing meditation/grounding practices before I enter social situations. This week I’m going to write down conversation questions/answers beforehand to an interaction I will have, as well as say hi to a stranger first.
