That is Sumac. The wood came from a tree at friends house here in Vegas not Arizona. A couple of branches had some wind damage so we had to cut those branches off at the trunk. there are a couple more pieces in the box along with some mesquite. Turned out nice. Can't wait to see what you do with the mesquite. Dale from Vegas :)

I'm a new subscriber this is my second video of yours I've watched . I heard you comment on the size that it turned out smaller than you wanted . I think it was a win the piece is awesome and just think there is probably a area in your house that a larger piece would not have fit the space. Love your video's . Keep them coming thanks.

Turned out nice Phil. You didn't make a funnel like I did. Well done sir.

Nice work on a tough little piece. Tough to keep the bark on that one. Well done

Phil, I like leaving that small piece of bark. It makes a great accent point on the bowl.

Lovely, as always. Carole and I agree with each other that it would have been a mistake to take off that last area of bark - it shows more of where it came from and adds extra interest and contrast.

Looks pretty cool Phil. As I watched I typed down everything I was seeing. Each view started out as one thing then changed to another. That was fun! First glance was a bird head on the top. Then a snake when I put the lower jaw in it Face on the outside looked like a fox. Bottom as a duck then rotated into a crocodile. There that is what I saw and they all were hard to miss for me. Not sure what kind of wood it is but it was sure a fun wood turning to watch. Nice job buddy! Gary

Perfect timing, Phil! I have a couple crotch pieces of unusually large lilac just waiting for some attention and this is my inspiration. I’ll also have some crotch pieces of laburnum soon, which is a stunning species to turn. Thanks!
