Music is an incredibly tough area to experience success in. The “starving artist” saying couldn’t describe the average musician better. You can have stuff that sounds just as good as anything on the radio but in an incredibly saturated field it all comes down to luck. There are hundreds of people sitting around on SoundCloud with 10 followers who would probably be my favorite artists if I knew they existed.

This is a brilliant compilation. There are many multifaceted sides of the 80s- the mainstream, the underground, the synthwave movement that emerged in the late 2000s where the sound of the 80s is kept alive and the mysterious side of the 80s with all these bangers. It's quite a surprise to realize that later in life, that there are many amazing songs that must be heard, celebrated and appreciated.

It’s truly impressive to see how many songs got solved since your upload. Sadly, this is kinda the result of ineffective cassette/VHS/cd/mp3 labeling through the 1970s-2010s. Like many others, I got involved in the investigation of unknown songs because of “Like the Wind” (16:15).. there’s a lot of hope that at least 95% of these can and will be solved in the next few years, especially as song identification apps improve and better track third party music distribution services like (Bandcamp) or can vocally identify singers, rather than just clues from the track.

After reading your comment I went to listen the full ost and I watched the three episodes, and I could'nt find it in it. Also the anime never goes full metal; 80's rock at best. If it's linked to Cyber city Oedo 808, it's not official. Or maybe it has been used on tv as a "long jingle" presenting the show, back in the days ? or in dvd or a peculiar vhs release ? Idk. But still, thanks for the discovery; it's a cool anime too bad it's so short ! ^^

Picture this for a couple minutes: It's late at night, you're browsing the internet like usual, looking for something to listen, it could be a podcast, it could be a playlist, since you don't have school/work tomorrow you decide to pull an all nighter doing something you absolutely love: it could be reading a book, it could be an activity as painting miniatures, it could be drawing, it could even be playing a game from your childhood (first rule it has to be something you enjoy more than anything, something that gives you peace of mind and the second rule is that it has to be possible offline). So you somehow run into this video before going to your preferred activity, being a lost media enthusiast you decide to leave this playing on the background as you know some of the songs in this video and some you even listen from time to time, so ths video is definitely the best thing you could run into. You have absolutely everything ready, even some late-night snacks, and while this plays you absolutely love this playlist, it makes your preferred activity way more enjoyable than you would've even thought. Time flies when you're enjoying yourself, you got transporter somehow to your childhood, remembering when you first learned about your activity and all the good times you had with it, you don't realize how late it is so you decide to disconnect a second and probably send a sms. It's already so late! when was the last time you stayed up this late? "well doesn't matter, I'll just finish what I was doing before sending this sms and I'll go to bed" you tell to yourself, the playlist is close to the end, but still got a couple songs to go so probably may as well just stay for the last one, so you wait patiently for the video to end and decide to sign off, not before checking your mail one last time. Hold up! connection's down, how strange, probably the entire video loaded entirely before your ISP went down. You shut down your computer/smartphone/tablet and end tidying everything. You check your sms to see if you got a reply because many times you got replies and didn't noticed your phone notification. Nothing, in fact it seems there's no phone signal, so your sms didn't even went off. Communications are surely acting weird huh? probably in the morning everything will be back to normal. Your clock has been stopped since midnight, in fact every clock in your house but you didn't even pay attention to that as you're already too tired and you want to go to sleep. You put on your pajamas, brush your teeth and go to your bed, it's already way too late, everyone else has already signed off. Time for you to do the same, time to sign off for the last time.

Mate stop describing me and my emotions. It's like you are empathically reading the ineffable quasi-nostalgic feelings I write stories about (Yup that would be my favorite hobby as you put it XD). And that stuff about time freezing when we exist in this liminal stages of our day, where everyone is asleep and the world seems quiet, making us feel like the calm evening scenery is this reflection of a world where nothing changes so time feels absent... Is quite accurate to what I have been feeling and cogitating about. I am impressed by your innate sense of detecting and translating this feelings into a tale in a random KZbin comment section, not gonna lie. Guess you have felt the same I felt from this playlist. And the retro pixilated animations and references to cyberpunk kino animes, all omens and auguries of the future we are currently experiencing - should help with that. Yhea I don''t know how to finish this other than offering my praises for having expressed the feelings that me and guess many others have bubbling up in them on this epochal moment of our Era, and that see you around. I will keep swimming in this Ocean of whatever sort of comforting darkness is the mysteries behind this songs and the nostalgic times they alude to. A certain anemoia for retro-futuros seems the key.

I think “My Pretty Doll” (13:28) is definitely an unknown song that needs more recognition. It sounds like a long-lost Oasis song, and while I’m sure it’s not an Oasis demo, it has that sense of 90s-00s nostalgia and familiarity. It has those Oasis/Radiohead chord progressions, and Green Day-style vocals, but my hypothesis is that it’s the song of a Britpop band that never got its big break and wasn’t signed to a record label and had a lot of its songs scrapped since they didn’t make it to radio. I’m not a detective so I’m not entirely sure if the hypothesis is true, but I really hope the song gets found because it sounds amazing.

It’s weird to think about how many great songs that are out there that no one will ever hear. Sometimes I like to imagine that the most popular songs that everyone knows in our universe are lost and forgotten and people are trying desperately to search for them in another, while in that universe the most popular songs that they all know and love are the songs we’re all searching for here.

This just makes me think about all thousands, possibly millions of songs that would've been massive hits, inspired millions, and would have created new genres, however they were never recorded or they're just in some cassette stashed in someone's basement. Its a very sad thought Also, in the similar vein of thought, imagine all the possible bands that could've been formed and become famous, if a group of people had met at the right place at the right time, however they had different circumstances that never allowed them to meet. Imagine all the musicians that could've became superstars, however they never pursued or tapped into their musical talent... really makes you think how it would've been like.

The final song sounds like the four pennies. A small band from Lancashire. The voice is very similar to the singers.

I don't know what I expected from a song labelled "Curly Toes", but I did NOT expect a woman singing... whatever the hell that was from what sounds like a homemade VHS recording... TToTT Where did it even come from? Maybe it's the fact it's dark out, but I can't be the only person who found that unnerving as the second to last track ;v;

Yeah... I'm okay with it being lost.

i unironically love this song! it's inspired one of my all-time favorite characters I've made, and just has such a weird, kinda creepy-yet-innocent-yet-sexual vibe to it that I rarely have heard anywhere else.
