I'm completely clueless to the radio world, but I think it's pretty neat. Thanks for sharing your discoveries with us!

Interesting. When I was living on the west coast, I frequently encountered a similar signal, but it was on the 40 meter band and was a nuisance when trying to conduct amateur radio operations.

There were 3 of these simultaneously in the 7.0-7.2MHz amateur band the other evening, unsure of their locations but all quite strong on a TFD antenna in the UK.

Do you have a date and time? This one was sourced, almost certainly, in Asia, so it is unlikely you were hearing the same one. However, there are several other candidates that are probable for you. Off the top of my head I would say most likely the Russian 29B6 Container radar, but with a day and approximate time I could confirm it. For example, I see that on 18 Nov, at about 1800 UTC, the 29B6 was indeed hitting the 7000 - 7200 kHz range.

@FirstToken Sorry, I don't remember the date, only that it was mid-evening during the week of the 11th to 15th November

@@BrianMorrison Without specific details of date and time it is impossible to confirm, but there is a good probability what you heard was the Russian 29B6 radar. I see it hit those frequencies and approximate times more than once over that period.

@@FirstToken Something of this ilk is on 7.176-7.192MHz at 17.55GMT November 24th Looks like an OTHR on the waterfall.

@@BrianMorrison The one you are talking about was / is (still going as I type this) the Russian 29B6 Container radar. It can be active on up to 8 frequencies at one time, and is a frequent intruder into the 40 meter band. I have seen 4 different instances of the 29B6 active in 40 meters at the same time. Because of my location and normal propagation conditions I seldom see it in the band on my local receiver, but often see it using European remotes.

I often receive this very strong here in NZ, Australia or Pacific ocean is my guess

Pretty sure Australia has an over the horizon radar system.. they didn’t provide much help with the mh370 situation to protect its capabilities from scrutiny

@@Sugar_K probably because it didnt see it?

No they are protecting their capacities.. my wife works in the pointy end of the defence industry here.. national security is far more important
