I feel that I must write down my "important" thoughts.. If I don't do it my OCD tells me that people will suffer horribly in this world. The OCD tells me that everyone can some how read my notes and my thoughts.. I have to justify all my thoughts in front of a tribunal of people in my mind. This takes up all my time, because the tribunal is never convinced of my innocence.. They cannot understand the points I am making .. Or they are deliberately ignoring me.. My OCD is like a mob I am trying to calm down.. But they never listen to me.. 20 years of this! I can't anymore.

Thank you. I am only now investigating OCD because I have nervous tics. Had them forever but also went through abusive childhood. Did therapy, but your video makes sense. 1 year ago, I didn’t have my eye blinking tics and jaw grinding. It comes and go. It’s making me so self conscious as people and I am trying to not care. I have struggle with months of heart palpitations and cardiologist said my heart was fine. I love this video. I did cbt therapy but not for ocd. I heard ocd isn’t a disorder but a condition, because it sits in top of anxiety. Any thoughts of nervous tics at part of compulsive behavior? Like the throat clearing I guess. My brother did that too. Thanks.I love breathing techniques.
@Sean.-.3 жыл бұрын
This may sound weird but I found it really helped me, I have a couple rituals or actions that I do with with a specific hand, one of them is scratching lightly at the back of my throat with my left index finger, I started doing it with the right index finger and it feels different, but it took away pretty much all of the need to want to do it with my left hand, and because it doesn't feel right now I don't obsess about doing it no way near as much now, it is strange I know it is. I've had the repetitive touching checking thing before but slowly managed to just walk away from it and not care about it even though the feeling is there, I have the intrusive thoughts too and some real messed up dreams usually where I die, ive died in my dreams in some efed up ways, whats weird is that I'm the least stressed person I know, my job doesn't demand alot from me, I earn a decent wage so no real worries about anything but I live with this fucking OCD shit. A funny one I had when I was young is i would remember throughout the day how many turns to the left and right I had done and at the end of the day if I thought I had spun more to the left I would do a few spins to the right to even it out, I could speak all day about it and literally nothing can surprise me with what people do whilst having ocd.

My mom has ocd and I can see from her behavior with her excessive cleaning and trying to make things always right. She ends up yelling at me and can be verbally abusive if I’m not up keep or things don’t seem right in her eyes, but I would like to go to therapy and help fix it.

The obsessions and compulsions are a substitute for other things one feels are out of control and can't get a handle on.
@jdulast4 жыл бұрын
More like they are done because things feel out of control
@W711-t7x4 жыл бұрын
As someone with OCD, not at all... First, obsessions are a different thing from compulsions. They are a direct result of feeling unsafe, unassured and being in a general state of fear and petrification. Out of fear I start to think (intrusive thought's), then I obsess going in circles, before I even start to engage in any physical action. Which btw's by definition you don't have to actually preform physical action for it to classify as OCD (Pure O). I think and expand what started as a single thought into a twisted wrangled net of sub-thoughts, that all center around the same subject (overthink, obsess), and only then it come's to the part where it turns into actual physical action. Then even when the action was performed and there is observable evidence, I realize cognitively that it's done, but I don't feel the usual satisfaction a normal person would, thus I fall into a state of trance and perform the action over and over again, and ONLY then it becomes compulsive, until I am satisfied. It is not a substitute. I want to feel safety. Being emotionally assured makes me feel that. It does have to do with control on a certain level, because if I am assured I feel like I have MORE control, but it's not like I wan't TOTAL control. That's false. I just feel that I don't even have the basic level of control and to get it I must attain this assurance. What I gain by performing these rituals, mentally or physically is assurance on an emotional level. Thus the obsessing and compulsions themselves aren't a substitute but rather a tool or gateway to the emotional assurance that the voice in my head (OCD) provides me with after I'm done. It's not like when I'm in trance or performing I like it or that is satisfying... Rather I sometimes even hate the process, just stick with it to the end because I know that once complete peace will follow. I very much have a handle on these things, emotional, conceptual or physical and I logically realize this. I am self aware and conscious. It's just that it never feels like it. It never ever really feel's that I'm truly safe. There's always that little voice at the back of your head whispering, what if?

I’m struggling with this exact OCD right now. Meds are critical to help “unlock” your brain. I had to take 150mg of Zoloft to finally get some relief. It’s a challenge but we will get through this.

oh god i have this. way back when i was a kid, i thought it to be just this weird thing i did. repetition of words, actions. then i got like, really depressed. so i looked up symptoms and sure enough. there. OCD. :(
@TheHorseshoePartyUK Жыл бұрын
@@ToyotaRN Indeed, quite often people need appropriate meds to get their mind to a better place for therapy to work. Conversely, there's a lot of people out there with a distorted perspective of reality, due to a lack of knowledge of history, critical thinking skills, getting their minds rotted by excessive social media and news coverage, who end up medicated when really they would've benefitted from seeking therapy first.

I have somewhat an unique OCD issue. I obsess over getting a bad disease etc. So i am hyper focused on anything that may seem different in my body. Then i will check that area over and over again. Then i will demand to be seen by a doctor and am in sheer terror of what they will say. Once the doc says im ok then im super happy and relieved but then something new will come up and off i go again. Afarid to go to doctors now if i dont have too..... so mine is health anxiety that i obsess over. All these years and i still am not sure how to use all the techniques for OCD to health anxiety OCD. I do not fear germs however so dont handwash etc.

Hypochondriasis, same as me. Though it waned off when some of my grand parents died, I said enough, no more. Everyone's gonna die anyway. Though it's kinda creeping again - now that I have a child. I'm not worried about myself per se but for my child. Each fever, cough, rashes freaks me out. And we're visiting doctors for checkups each time I notice something new. My head heats up each time medicines are thrown up, or any threat that might harm my son. Anxiety, obsession, worry, and stress, they're all connected.

@dmt76743 жыл бұрын
The condition is like the black wolf of yourself. It’s about understanding the dark parts and accepting them with loving arms. Like the previous commenter said, it’s a liar. OCD is like a forced abusive relationship. As bad as it can get sometimes how it treats you, talks to you, or makes you see or experience things you have to learn you are also in control of your own destiny, your mind, and your own feelings. It will do and spend as much time as it can to make you feel like background noise. It’s a matter of standing up to your abuser and saying when enough is enough. It’s extremely hard especially on days when it feels so overwhelmed you can only think about shooting yourself in the head to make it stop. But know this is your body, your home, and no one can tell you how to live your life and when to feel happiness. OCD makes it incredibly hard to see your potential when you are clouded by doubt and ideas of things that aren’t typically you. You get super accustomed to these thoughts after so long you feel drowned in it, trapped in a box where no one can reach you. But as far out as we feel from ourselves, the people around us, and our reality, we our always within reach of our clarity and happiness. Do not feel hopeless because you are not lost at sea as many people feel with this condition. You are not broken and it’s not forever. You are learning and understanding yourself. Treating the condition is about recognizing the truth about your condition and separating it from your life from the outside. Love and trust yourself, build a relationship with yourself you have not before. ❤️

Thank you so much for the video. I have a 9 year old boy with OCD/ tics. It gives me some directions how to talk to whenever he suffers from it. It makes sense that it is a feeling disorder because my son knows it’s not true but he said it’s like a feeling you have to scratch cause it’s itchy, so it makes him do his rituals. He loves reading a lot of fancy books. Would it be something unhealthy considering his imagination gets triggered easily with anxiety?
