Keep in mind, for Emby you have to set up your own secure remote access. Emby doesn't offer anything out of the box for security. Everything is sent using HTTP protocol. So if you try to access your server remotely, you're sending everything in clear text including your user name and password.

I stumbled across Emby when my Plex bricked on me on the last update. After much troubleshooting, I finally decided to look for another option. I'm very impressed so far. The only thing that is missing is an app for my Samsung smart TV (Canadian version). But a Chromecast Ultra will solve for that easily. Recommended!

There is a version for your Samsung via USB. Check the Emby site, in the Samsung section.

I was a plex user I really like the speed and UI of Emby. Also one question the only thing I really dont like that plex has is the library only shows 1-3 letters of movies/shows and then you have to go to the next page is there a way to set it up so it just keeps scrolling to the bottom like plex?

Just lost my comment :( So going to write it again :) Not sure if anyone is aware that Emby is now closed source - emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/64825-with-3530-emby-is-no-longer-open-source/ But there is a fork on Github called Jellyfin - github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin I'm running Jellyfin via a Docker container and it's working really well, it's available for a number of OSs as well. Here is a reddit post announcing Jellyfin and of course a load of comments - www.reddit.com/r/emby/comments/a545g9/annoucing_jellyfin_a_free_software_fork_of_emby/ Personally I'd rather run Jellyfin than either Plex or Emby, but thats just my opinion.

Are you aware of anyone that sells monthly access to their Emby server? I was using one that was great, but unfortunately they had problems after the recent Emby update. Thanks!

Yeah the device limit for the premier features killed it for me, I have well over the limit alone and then the others in and out of the house. Besides, already a lifetime Plex member. On the bright side I am a sucker for trying something new lol, thanks UJ

15 devices is a lot of devices...who are you? KZbin :)
@jerrycrumety15715 жыл бұрын
Lol, multiple consoles, mobiles etc. it’s not that they will access all at one time. It’s more the principle of the limiting factor, especially if you fork out for the lifetime subscription. But, I assume I don’t have to give the outside streamers the code, all they need is to watch the movies/shows. Or am I not understanding how the premier actually works? It is a bit convoluted.
@UnkyjoesPlayhouse5 жыл бұрын
1: I don't do lifetime subs anymore "think TIVO" I think they are referring to 15 Total devices, inside and outside of your network. 2: Your use case is much different than mine. I may have 3 users at a time watching and all inside of my local network, I have not even tried getting Plex to play outside my network "not even interested" in that feature, so my results fit my particular use case.. I still prefer this interface to the new Plex one, and it is much faster playing videos and tuning in live tv than Plex has ever been. YMMV :)
@UnkyjoesPlayhouse5 жыл бұрын
P.S. Even with the 15 devices, you can manage those from the interface, remove or add to your hearts content, so that might be a solution.

Thanks, I’m definitely going to give it a shot this weekend.

I tried Emby before, but it looks like they caught up to Plex. I might give try again. However', I do not like their theater interface. Instead I would prefer to use it with Kodi. Can you make video about Kodi plugin for Emby ?
@jimmymolinaro75545 жыл бұрын
you mentioned you would keep the older interface format of Plex and work with that. I'm pretty you cant do that. Doesn't it upgrade automatically as soon as they put it online, when you turn Plex on? You have no control over stopping it. At least I didn't when the last "plugin removal-new interface" upgrade occured . Bam its there, no going back.
@UnkyjoesPlayhouse5 жыл бұрын
You can turn the update feature off on both Emby and Plex, which is what I do. Thanks for watching :)

-Emby is open source.- Jellyfin is open source.
@NewYears19782 жыл бұрын
I thought about Jellyfin once. It looks like a direct rip of Emby but as you say, open source. But it's interface is even more stripped down with even less customization options, which is bad because Emby already can't be customized hardly at all. I wish Emby or Jellyfin had some real visual customizations, like Kodi has.

same reason we don't use the metric system, we don't like it :) Thanks for watching :)

@@UnkyjoesPlayhouse The metric system is more accurate. The rest of the world uses it for a reason. I rarely use the imperial system just for rough guesstimates.
@UnkyjoesPlayhouse5 жыл бұрын
I would have to disagree, part of the imperial system is based on ancient forms of measurement, it is partially based off of sacred geometry and sacred units of measurement, something we don't need to forget, check out Randal Carlson, and then there is this askawiseman.com/metric/

to be fair, I used the metric system when doing construction work as I am not fond of fractions when measuring cuts, however the US will NEVER adopt the metric system, they tried it when I was a kid in the 1970's and people did not like it here in the States....we like, miles-feet-yards-F instead of C etc etc etc
