⏩ Watch next: My tiger nut carp rig: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kGO9mWhqmtKbiZY Mixing small quantities of particles with cheap veggie/cereal pellets has changed my fishing over the last couple of years. At Beausoleil, I use them to avoid accidental captures of massive catfish and when I fish public venues, I suffer less problems from crayfish. Setting small particle traps with a bushwacker from the rowing boat has also worked really well. Last summer I caught loads of carp just by rowing out, waiting for a bit of fizz, sneaking the boat into range and sliding out my trap. If you give ready made particles a go, make sure to keep them cool, in the shade, with the lid on after opening. You also need the cooking juices to cover the particles. Anything exposed to the air will dry out quickly and will float which makes it useless. I top up the pots with lake water as necessary during a session and then freeze any leftovers.

@matthewcollinsangler, I use tiger nuts a lot. Adding salt is fine, however what you really want to do is crush those nuts before fitting them in the pva net. This way the carp will come after the tiger nut scent but only the bait nut will be the most attractive bite.

I will continue to use plastic corn as I only use it on the Chod which won't tow a lead if I get snapped, and if the fish ends up releasing the Chod mine will float to the surface and come ashore!

Hey Matt, Iv been really watching a lot of your videos and one thing I haven’t seen you mention is hot sauce as a attractant for fish , I went for a small session on my club lake and used some sriracha hot sauce in with my ground bait and my corn was marinated in it , considering I was fishing cheap and used mainly bread crumb and sweetcorn and a tiny amount of ground bait and pellet I had one of the best sessions Iv ever had catching more fish than even when I buy a dedicated ground bait mix., have you ever tried this and do you think it would work for the big carp , because they seemed to be all over the sriracha sauce

Hi mate, I’ve not actually tried that but I know anglers use it. I used to add chilli flakes to my particles because it was the done thing to do. If it works for you then great, have fun with it! Maybe it’s an edge, maybe it’s not. Impossible to say 😊 For me hook sharpness, rigs, timing, location and baiting strategy are where the differences are made in the pursuit of larger carp 😊

What quantities do you recommend for the French Carp. Going to a venue next month, that has a large head of carp. Any insight into how much you should use to hold bodies of carp?

To be honest mate, I don’t think it’s realistic to expect to hold them. Carp in my lake can eat 200kgs of particles in a week, but that’s not what I recommend our guests to use. Every French lake is different, the answer depends on size of lake, range, rules, rowing boats, bait boats, casting. The best person to advise is the lake owner… At our 4 acre lake, as an example, you can be successful with 25kgs of pellets and 10l of prepared particles for a week. Hi Matthew, great informative video again thanks. I’ve just fished a lake where the carp are mainly between 10 & 20 pounds. I had some success on my curried maize but I was feeding a small particle mix and I could tell that it was getting hoovered up by small fish. I really do like the mix but am I wasting my time/money with it? Thanks

Hi mate, the silvers can be voracious at this time of year so it can be difficult to get through to the carp if there’s a load of silvers present. One trick I use is to make up some PVA friendly sweet corn and fish a small bag that is tight to the hook. A concentrated pile of bait is more attractive to a carp and less attractive to a load of silvers. Sometimes you have to admit defeat and just use boilies. Particles are great in the right situation but boilies were invented for a reason!

Hi there, it’s not plastic but bait cork doesn’t break down either so it’s not really much better tbh. If you use either fully supple braided rigs or simple semi stiff mono rigs (the mono hair or my deadly mono d rig), you don’t need to critically balance your bait 😊

Hi Stuart, if you need to prepare large quantities of particles on a regular basis then making your own is definitely the way to go and I’ve done this a lot in the past. I would never recommend the use of large quantities of tiger nuts or any nuts as it doesn't do the fish any good. At my lake, I limit the use of tigers to 1 x 500g pot each per week. I like the Nash particles range because it’s quick and easy both for customers and for my own angling. The particles re-freeze really well so as long as I take a pot out of the freezer the night before, I’m ready to go by the morning with very little effort. As far as quality goes I have heard some comments on social media slagging off readymade particles, saying how they aren’t cooked right and that the seeds float. In my experience this isn't true and floating seed only happens if you let the mixes dry out (I’ve seen customers do this here). You have to keep the jar topped up with lake water and if you are making up a grubbing mix, only make what you need there and then. If you leave it in a bucket in the sun for 30 minutes those seeds are gonna float! Hope that helps, cheers, Matt.

Lysine is found in meat and fish. I use himalayan salt and there is no mention of lysine in salt. Himalayan salt is made up of between 96% and 99% sodium chloride, with trace presence of calcium, iron, zinc, chromium, magnesium, and sulfate, all at varying safe levels below 1%. It’s those trace elements that are in short supply for carp which is why I like to use the good stuff 👍

Hi mate, it's possible sure but you need a good quality processor to crush them, tiger nuts are quite hard. You can find ready made tiger nut slush.

@@CarpMan34 If you wanted to add salt to the manilla, I'd use fine salt and mix well so that the salt dissolves in the liquid. Then pour the salted liquid over your boilies as you would normally. If you need to make the mix wetter, you could try dissolving some salt in warm water, pour that over the boilies and let the brine be drawn into the boilies before you glaze the baits with the manilla. Depends what you're doing with it. Have a play and see what works for you.

I'm not sure I buy the salt theory. I'd want that in my lake nearly as little as I'd want dropped leads... Yes I believe that carp have reasonable salinity tolerance but where does the salt goes once it's introduced to a lake that has no outflow?

Hi there, it’s not something I’m worried about as a lake owner. You’d have to use tonnes to have an impact on the overall salinity of a lake. A few grams per rig is not going to have a negative effect.

you would have to throw 100'skg in to effect the water quality. plus himilayan salt has over 80 nutrients in it,I've found carp go even more nuts for himilayan salt just after spawning, probably to do with the amount of nutrients it has in it. Keep it going down on the same spots, and the carp will soon keep coming back for more.

Also in the summer etc using large quantities of tiger nuts isnt a problem at all you can drop kilo's of em. Just don't do it multiple days in a row. Build op large baiting spots wich large qantities of tigers and reduce the amount over days and increase the boilies over days will make the carp go crazy. You can build a great week session etc that way.

It's tricky mate! It's important to fish with 2 landing nets, netting 2 carp in the same net is a very bad idea. Make sure that your bankside setup is really solid so that you can tighten your clutch and make them work to gain any line. Best to concentrate on banking one and I'd leave the other rod playing the carp itself. If you notice the line's gone slack, pause on the first rod and just wind the handle on the rod on the sticks to see if you can take up the slack and re-connect with the fish. As soon as you've got one in, use a bank stick to secure the net and lift into the second fish. It's all about being organised and having confidence in your setup 😊

So, in summary; play only one rod at a time, set the other rod down and tighten the clutch enough for the carp to play itself (making sure to periodically check for slack, and tighten the slack if necessary), net the first carp and then secure the net with a bank stick, then play the second rod and net the second fish in a second net. Is that everything?

Hi there, first, don’t fish closer than 10m to a snag. Fish fully or semi locked up, you’ll need a really robust setup to do this with individual banksticks. You just need to be prepared to apply the maximum test curve of your rod to stop the carp from making it to the snag. Your knots and gear have to be spot on (ie properly tested).

Good quality bait isnt expensive at all lol 😂 you can make a unbelievable monsyer bait for under 3 bucks. Its just the outrages prices that they make up themselves, i always buy from self rollers and tthen you have WAY better quality bait for more than half the price then your beloved scopex squid from that company you use. Wich isnt a great quality bait at all in my standards and most the anglers here in the Netherlands. I know 10 company's that have way better quality then nash etc 😅
