Great bike i have al2 2023 , upgrade it after one year for 105 12 speed full group set and carbon wheels with gp5000 32mm and took out 20mm spacer and it's really good ride worth to upgrade.

That 105 12 speed is a great group set! Big difference is tires and wheels. You running them tubeless?
@e_n19846 ай бұрын
@@DanEscapes yes the groupset is give every gear you need , as for tire am running it with TPU inner tube it's lighter than tubeless.

Proper thorough breakdown of the domane! Definitely can blur the lines between a road and a gravel bike with this one! I ended up going with the Emonda in the end. Now after watching this I would love to demo a Domane just to see the difference.
@DanEscapes6 ай бұрын
Emonda is a great bike and love mine! If you want one bike that does abit of both then the domane is worth looking at and if gravel is more your thing then the checkpoint.

I'd like to share my Domane AL2 bought new in 2021. Installed 105 groupset from my RB and added Ultegra 11-40 cogs . Carbon Elitewheels 35mm w/ 22mm inner width. Pirrelli Cinturato Gravel M 40mm and at PSI 40R 39F calipers out to 42mm. Tubeless of course and never had a flattire. Juin tech mechanical hydralic brakes on SHIMANO XTR RT-MT900 disc brake rotors. Magene Powermeter. Been running this set up since. Really comfortable ride, accelerates and climbs great. Great video. Thumbs up and sub'd.

Sounds like a great build! How you finding the 11-40 and did you run a cage extender? Love those tires, my favourites for gravel! Thank you, really appreciate it!

Good upgrades on this AL2 & nice overview of a lot of key points. I've been riding the 2015 Domane 2.0 w/ 25c tires and more recently a FX 4 w/ 32c tires & 1x11 Deore. I want to combine both of these into 1 bike and maybe even "Gravelize" it a bit, since I like going off road and taking that light single track trail. So tomorrow I'm picking up the Domane AL5 Gen 4. I've always wanted the 105 groupset and bigger tires on my 2.0 Domane - so that checks that. I also plan on putting on some Specialized 38c Pathfinder Pro 2Bliss tires. I probably will ride 30 % hard dirt / smooth single track & 70 & road. Hoping the rolling resistance isn't all that bad on the road on these tires, I'm a heavy rider so I keep them pumped up high psi.
@DanEscapes5 ай бұрын
The domane al 5 will be great and you can definitely get 40 mm tires if you want extra cushion and grip off road. To help with rolling resistance look at a lighter tire but then more risk of punctures. Have you tried tubeless?

Been thinking this would be good with a fully wireless gruppo. Hopefully GRX 1x12 is wirekess

If they make it shimano GRX fully wireless will work. As shimano is still semi wireless will have to be SRAM.

I have the same road bike. Have a quick question. For the wheels it says 70psi max. Is that how much I can add or can I add more like 90psi. Someone else said that 90-110 psi is mostly used for smooth roads and for gravel around 75psi. Can you help me out?
@DanEscapes2 ай бұрын
Usually 70psi is the max you should go. On my road bike with 28mm tires I’m running 60psi at the back and 50psi in the front mainly for comfort. I have these set up tubeless so can run lower pressures. The tires on the domane are 32mm so they will naturally have a lower max pressure compared to narrower tires. When my 28mm tires wear out I’m going to switch to either 30s or 32s for more comfort! On my gravel bike I have 45mm tires and run 25 psi in the front and 30psi in the back, again running tubeless.
@KrowTheSavage2 ай бұрын
@@DanEscapes what psi do you think I should go with and is it better to run 5psi lower in the front and 5psi higher in the back
@DanEscapes2 ай бұрын
@@KrowTheSavage really depends on how comfortable you want to ride and weight dependent. But generally I put more in the back purely as there is more weight. If you’re running inner tubes you don’t want to go too low as you run the risk of pinch punctures.

this the gen 4 right ?? can i use GRX Groupset for this frame ?
@DanEscapes5 ай бұрын
This is the AL Gen 4. Yeah I put a GRX group set on this bike. You cannot put Di2 though. If you want wireless shifting will have to be SRAM AXS.

You can get the blendr mounts on the trek website or through any trek bike shop or dealer.

Do you reckon the handlebars can be changed to integrated ones?
@DanEscapes3 ай бұрын
Depends which integrated ones? Theres a few on the market that would work easily with this but need to be compatible with mechanical shifters unless your change the groupset to sram axs

I just stumbled across ur videos & I currently have the previous generation 3 Domane al5 and been thinking to switch over to the current generation Emonda alr frame that you have built up. I’m Just a little worried that the new emonda alr frame would be too stiff and harsh for me. None of my local shops have a built up Emonda alr that I can test out. What do you think of the Emonda? Is it Smooth?
@DanEscapes6 ай бұрын
I just finished a 100 mile ride on the emonda and it is really smooth. What makes the difference is tire choice. The domane has clearance for 38mm tires where as the emonda only 28mm. I have ridden with people on emondas you have put 32mm cycle cross tires in with no issue so you can easily put a 32. I’m running 28 and would ideally go up to 30 (will do once I’ve worn these tires out). What makes a big difference is converting to tubeless and being able to run lower pressures. I’m currently running the Pirelli P zero 4S (still) 28 mm set up tubeless and haven’t had one puncture. I usually run lower pressures (55psi in the rear and 50psi upfront) and this has helped with comfort. The only thing I do need to work on is my seating position as I’m finding some discomfort down below. I did a video where I took the emonda on the rapha day in hell ride with mixed gravel and road and loved it. Please let me know if you have any other questions I can help you with.
@maherkahala52696 ай бұрын
@@DanEscapes that hell on wheels video is what made me comment and ask you how the Emonda rode. That was insane and don’t know how you did that. I like having my tire pressure a lot higher around 85 psi running butyl with the Auolus pro 51. I’m happy with my Domane but I just something a bit more aggressive light weight and with integrated cables for a cleaner look. I think I will go for the Emonda alr frame.

It almost seems as if it was money wiser to just buy the frame and build everything yourself rather than changing everything on a stock bike.
@DanEscapes2 ай бұрын
Unfortunately here in the UK you can’t buy the frame on its own. Plus I had this GRX group set that I took off another bike.
