I own the SL6 Gen 4 with Pro51 wheelset. BUY IT IF YOU'RE ON THE FENCE!! I put 4,000mi on it since March 2023, it's a fantastic ride. I traded in my 2021 Domane SL5 (purchased in 2020) for this as the iso-speed is redesigned, wanted the Di2, and the bike is ~1-1/2 pounds lighter (~18.5 pounds) The bike is also much faster, especially with the Pro51 wheelset. I ride a 54cm frame with a 80mm stem.

Fantastic! Totally love the Domane. Super comfortable for both road and gravel riding. My purchase included a free bike fit from a third party bike fitter (paid for by the LBS), which was totally worth it. I highly recommend this platform if you are looking for an endurance style geometry. Oh, and it does love to go fast!

@@williammrdeza9445 Ah nice that’s great to hear. I’ve heard people complain about the seat post creaking, have you experienced that? Also for you, do you think the bike feel heavy at all? @kroaal4 ай бұрын
I haven't experienced any seat creaking, I think that happened mostly on the Rev 1 of isospeed. I have a Ike with a rev 2 decoupler and I haven't experienced any creaking. As for the weight, some people would argue that the Domane is relatively heavy for a carbon frame (just under 9 kg if I recall correctly), however coming from an aluminum hybrid bike I do feel like the Domane's weight is good for my needs. I am able to lift my bike on one hand! I hear that additional weight can be slashed by upgrading the stock wheels, though I personally don't plan to look into that for a while

Hey, great video! I too am a former racer. I raced for decades, and there were many great times, but my days of killing it in road races and crits are behind me now. I turned 60 this year, and I want a machine that I can make go as fast as I need on group rides and at the occasional sportive, but has a little bit less tightly sprung, less twitchy demeanor. I have a 2024/5 Domane SL5 Gen4 arriving tomorrow along with a set of the Aeolus Elite 37 carbon wheels. I will load some 700x32c Conti GP5000STR tires onto those Aeolus wheels. I do plan to also swap out the handlebar for an S-Works carbon Hover Bar. Yes, I know some think it's a sin to place a Brand S handlebar on a Trek, but it's a great way to maintain the smooth ride, reduce saddle-to-handlebar drop without installing a riser stem, and shave a lot of weight. Those stock IsoZone handlebars are not only too wide, but also HEAVY. The stock saddle will also go away, my lower chassis doesn't get along with short-nose saddles or saddles with big cutouts. I've found comfort with SQ-Labs saddles. Saddles and handlebars can be a bit like shoes and gloves. Sort of a personal fitting option. This looks like a great bike for me to enjoy for at least the next decade.

I'm looking at the Domane SL5 Gen 4 2024 at the moment. Seems like it has a lot going for it, such as the tyre clearance, internal storage, Iso feature, and clean headset. However, I'm also a bit sceptical due to reviews of a potential creaky seat post and that it weighs quite a bit more than it's competitors. I'm on the fence between the Domane SL5 Gen 4 2024 and Pinarello X1 at the moment, they're both £3000 in the UK. I was also looking at the Canyon Endurace CF 7 but that comes with 650B wheels in my size, which I'm not too keen on. Thank you for the detailed vid! I am actually going back to the Trek store in the morning to purchase a 2023 they have for $2499.93. I recently started to get into cycling for personal fitness, (road/paved trails/cruising), and just went to the store to browse, ask questions, and see what these bikes look/feel like. I had absolutely no intention of buying anything yet. The only reason I even saw this particular SL5 was because it was one of the few bikes in my size there, and they pulled it off the rack just to get on it and see if that size was fine. Once I saw it, and felt it, I was wowed. The Mercury color is awesome, exactly the kind of color scheme I would want, and just sitting on it got these strange vibes going. I figured I'd ask how much it was just to hear some crazy high price so I could forget it, but was actually surprised it was on such a discount. I left the store because it never crossed my mind to spend that kind of money, but I couldn't get the bike out of my head, and by the evening I pretty much talked myself into it...plus my wife is all for it too! Your video has truly convinced me now! First thing in the morning when they open I'm gonna be in that store! Great video. I like this bike a lot. I'm seriously thinking about buying it. Unfortunately, I am exactly on the border between sizes 56 and 58. I tried both sizes and I felt better with size 56. But when I saw myself in the video and photos, I feel that it is small for me. I am 180.5 cm tall and my inseam is 85 cm. I should probably say I've only ridden a mountain bike so far. Could you tell me what size Trek Domane SL 5 wheel you have and how tall you are and what your inseam is? When I see you riding this bike, it looks great on you. Thank you for your reply

Hey, thanks for the comment! I am 185 cm tall with a 86.5 cm inseam. Funny enough, I am also exactly in between sizes, although for me it’s between 58 and 60. Similar to you, I tried both and felt the 58 felt better, so I went with the 58, but they both felt great. For you, I’d probably go more based on how it feels rather than how it looks. As long as it feels natural and like you could maintain the position for several hours, you should be good. Feel free to keep me posted!

You're probably going too far by calling the Bontrager R3 Hard Case Lite tyres low end as the price difference between them and the Continental GP5000 is not very significant. The R3 Hard Case Lite are even the tyres that come with the Trek Madone SL6 (an actual racing bike). In the video you are referring to, you have replaced the original tyres of the Trek Domane AL 4 which are the Bontrager R1 Hard Case Lite and not the R3 ones. You also tested the tyres using an inner tube whereas the Trek Domane SL5 comes with tubeless tyres. Tubeless tyres usually allow the rider to go faster and the weight difference between the Continental ones and the Bontrager R3 Hard Case Lite tyres is only 20g. I'm not sure this would make a substantial difference for the average road cyclist. To me, they are perfectly fine on the road with a tubeless setup and they are very resistant to punctures.

I’m using the Enve Aero SES In Route handlebar. Any Aero handlebar should work as long as it’s not a one piece stem/handlebar combo.

How tall are you and what is your inner leg length? Have you considered size 60?
@hikerbikeromar3 ай бұрын
I am 185 cm tall with an 86.5 cm inseam. The 58 works for me but yes in retrospect, I think the 60 would have been better. I am sort of in between sizes, but I would have gone with the 60 if I could do it over again.

Would like your opinion. Found 2023 gen4 with 11 speed on sale for $2499, would it make sense to go with 11 speed for that price or spent another $1000 for 12 speed ? Thank you

I would absolutely go with the 11 speed version for $2499. I don't think one extra gear is worth the $1k price. $2499 is an excellent deal!

That’s a great question. I’ve heard the same but I’ve never experienced any issues, so it seems OK to me, but that’s mostly anecdotal.

I now have a Specialized Sirrus hybrid. I am on the verge of buying a Domane SL 5 Gen 4!! because I need to get a little more speed. I want to go on C* rides (11. -13 mph) now I only go on C rides at about 9 -11). Besides comfort do you think it will give me a little more speed??
@hikerbikeromar8 ай бұрын
Yes definitely! The Domane will be more aerodynamic and put you in a position that is more conducive to speed. Slap some Conti GP 5000 tires on there and it will be amazing.
@kewpiedoll36078 ай бұрын
@@hikerbikeromar Thank you so much. Now I am getting different opinions on tire width. It comes with 32 tires which surprised me! Should I replace them with 28cc tires??
@hikerbikeromar8 ай бұрын
@kewpiedoll3607 good question! Personally, I would put 28mm continental GP 5000 tires on there for sure. They will most likely be faster than the stock tires. And you could probably sell the stock tires on eBay or FB marketplace!

Ok. But why is the not a “gravel” bike, or suitable for the Tour Divide?
@52daytripper7 ай бұрын
not enough clearance for 'wide' tires, the max tire that will fit the domane is 700x38

how much of a difference is this sl5 compared to your al4 with upgraded tires and tubes?
@hikerbikeromar7 ай бұрын
Definitely a lot more comfortable given the carbon frame, and feels more premium in general. However, I don’t notice a difference in regard to speed.
@wimpie031 Жыл бұрын
You can’t actually mount an extra bottle underneath the frame from my understanding. I believe the screws you pointed out are for the di2 plastic mount/cable guide system that’s inside the downtube. I’ll know for sure in March/late February when I get mine in Dark Aquatic ☺️
@hikerbikeromar Жыл бұрын
Ah, thanks for sharing!! I was told previously that you could, but your explanation makes more sense. Enjoy the new bike! I absolutely love that color.

@@hikerbikeromarHeya, hope you’re doing well! Received the bike this week, sadly only a short 25km ride so far because of the shitty weather here 😂 Dark aquatic, a great colour! Anyways, update about the under frame “mounting” holes. The shop said, “Well technically it could be possible?” The hole sizing is about 570mm apart, so not a standard bottle cage distancing for the screw holes. I haven’t tried to see what the diameter of the screws are though, so that is something people need to check first. From my first glance it seems the diameter is a bit smaller then those for bottle cages.

Trek Domane in size 58 is not really a standard 58 size, is more of a 56 in reality. So that stem should be 90 cm long instead of 100 cm.

Omar .. i need your advice .. currently i have a BASSO bike with tiagra groupset.. my friend ordered a new bike and he wants to sell his bike .. It's Domane SL 6 AXS Gen 4 ) in very good condition.. first question: Do you recommend upgrading my bike with this one ..second, what's the affordable price to buy it??🧧🧧🧧🧧
@hikerbikeromarАй бұрын
Hey man, good questions. If you can get it for a good price, I think it would be an awesome upgrade. If you are really into cycling, I think you'll enjoy the carbon fiber frame and electronic groupset more than the BASSO, which I assume is probably aluminum? Brand new, the Domane SL 6 AXS Gen 4 is selling on sale for $4k. If your friend were to sell it to you for $3k, I think it would be a good price and I would go for it personally. Feel free to keep me posted!

@hikerbikeromar actually my Basso is a carbon frame except the wheels.. my friend asked for 3500$. may I go for it but for lower than this price .. im thinking for 3200$ taking into consideration its equipped with SRAM RIVAL 12 Speed

@@saadesam8743 Ah it's carbon, ok. What is the main reason for wanting to upgrade? Is it mainly the electronic shifting? Also just curious, what is the exact model name of the BASSO you have?

@hikerbikeromar very good questions ! My bike is BASSO Laguna 2018 its discontinued model from Basso ..why i need to upgrade ? i don't know..just go for new model bike with disc break..an electronic shifting not a big issue for me .. that's why I'm asking.. its it worthy to upgrade? especially if I can get with very good price.. i will not pay 3500$ for it
@hikerbikeromarАй бұрын
@@saadesam8743 I gotcha! Makes sense. If it were me, I'd probably upgrade for the wider tire clearance, the electronic shifting, and the downtube storage. If those things are meaningful to you, then I think it's definitely worth it. Of course, I am assuming the tire clearance on the BASSO is around 25mm or so, but maybe it's more? $3200 I think is still a decent deal yes, but I probably would not pay more than that. Just my opinion though!

Hmm, I can’t speak too much to it since I don’t have any experience with it. If not does creak, I doubt it would just be for heavier people. However, I also doubt it will be much of a problem. Even if it does creak, I would bet it is just a cosmetic/audio issue, and won’t actually break or anything. Did the shop you bought it from confirm it was a rev 1?

@@hikerbikeromar no not confirmed yet. I am going on Tuesday for the plunge or get deposit back Based on what I have heard in reviews,forums 60% of people complained about this issue, N ow I hear they are even upto Rev. 5 on this part. What's your opinion on fx6 sport newest version maybe that's a better deal.
@hikerbikeromar5 ай бұрын
@@davidroter5580 I'm personally not a fan of the FX sport series for long rides. They only allow your arms and hands to sit in one position, and it gets pretty uncomfortable over an hour or more. I think the Domane is a much more comfortable bike. The FX series is comfortable for a few minutes, but I think the Domane is definitely more comfortable than the FX. See what the dealer says about the creaking seatpost, maybe they have a known solution, or at least can give recommendations on warranty?
