Made my mouth, tongue and throat half numb but in a bad way. Dried out my mouth and numbed my sense of taste except for the lingering taste of chemicals. I didn’t have this bad of an experience but it has definitely burned my tastebuds out, causes dry mouth for hours. I had a case of gingivitis. Definitely healing my gums though. I hate it!

I was prescribed this after dental implant surgery. The pharmacy instructions say to apply it directly to the incision site with a q-tip. I will do it that way since I don't want this chemical all over my mouth. It is a chemical and the bad side effects sound bad enough to avoid rinsing with it. I also rinse with salt water.

So! I was prescribed this stuff because I chewed on my cheek right after I woke up from oral surgery (3 wisdom teeth). Next morning I woke up vomiting so all my lovely, clean mouth holes were no longer so. Don’t feel bad for me though I take methadone so there was only moderate pain. Thanx for the tips about brushing along with the stuff, and the 30min thing. ❤

@@fallguy4209 you’re not supposed to eat or drink or even rinse an hour after using it- the butter taste isn’t bad as long as you do that. I didn’t mind it but I definitely can see some people not being able to stand it. It’s not the worst medical wash I’ve been prescribed so that’s likely why.

I have to do it twice a day. #1 after breakfast #2 after you brush your teeth before bed

cant get to dentist for a few days got a big break in my lower back left all the way back molar/wisdom whatever it is. half the tooth is just gone and the nerves are exposed it looks like. it hurts real bad at night. we have some of this sitting around will it help my pain at all? I wake up 3am every morning in excruciating pain and have to sit up till it goes away which takes an hour or so . then the pain is barely noticable

Ugh! Hope you got this taken care of. In the future taking something like Advil or Tylenol may help with pain. Mouthwash would probably irritate it.... I'm not a dentist though so just my humble opinion.

I would like to see some definitive information on patient outcomes which is substantiated by actual studies. Everyone knows that chlorhexidine kills bugs. That doesn't necessarily mean it produces favorable outcomes. A lot more needs to be known besides whether it reverses gum-bleeding.

Oracare is much better won't stain your teeth it's an alternative to cloraxdine

I’ve started using it after the dentist told me I had a lot of plaque build behind my bottom row of teeth. After a couple weeks of inconsistent use, I genuinely started noticing my gums NOT being red, swollen, and bleeding whenever I brushed. However, my experience is anecdotal and I do agree your comment that id like to see definitive info from actual studies.

NB: The bottle of Chlorhexadine Gluconate that was rx’d for me is Not 12%, but rather .12% (12 hundredths per cent, or 1/100 of 12%. It was Rx’d after installation of a dental screw as part of installing a dental implant. Please comment on veracity of .12%, and also when that concentration is used and when 12% concentration should be used. Thank you.

No it's meant to be spit out. Don't think it would benefit a sore throat. Mainly used to prevent gum disease / gingivitis

It is supposed to kill bacteria. I was prescribed it today after a tooth was pulled and a small hole was created during extraction to my nasal passages. I'd ask your doctor to see what they say. It's possible.

Not without a prescription. I heard they don’t let you buy this stuff-because it’s not good to use long term. It will mess with your taste buds if use like everyday listerine. I also heard it’s like taking antibiotics when you don’t need them

it can stain but from what I've heard its relatively easy to manage with whitening tooth paste, you dont have to use it right after.
