I have used 2% clorhexadine since the late 1980's, when it finally was approved by the FDA for use in the USA. It brought my advanced periodontal disease under complete control, and I have never had a dentist advise root planing, deep scaling, gum removal, or any of those procedures again. For 15 years prior to starting I had major periodontitis, and experienced regular bouts serious pain, gum abscesses, and complications from root canals because of the infections constantly developing within periodontal pockets. I was introduced to the product by a dentist at NIH ... and have never looked back or had any problems. It wrecked my relationship with my dentists, who disapproved for really vague reasons. As a result, I only have a hygienist. My cleanings are always painless and non-bloody.

@@dentalelle I should have mentioned that I don't use it as mouthwash. Long ago, I began squirting it below the gum line, using what was called a "sulcus tip instrument" that I bought from a dental supply company. It is a tiny plastic bottle with a cap that holds a small hollow metal tube. It isn't a needle, so there is no puncturing tissue, or even inserting the thing. The peridex just descends on its own into the gum pocket. My routine is to work from left to right, one tooth at a time for a small squeeze, then to go right back on the other side of the tooth. It takes about 1 minute to do all teeth, upper and lower. I let it sit from 2 to 5 minutes. I also skip days several times a month. When I used to only use it as a mouthwash, it did seem to cause some slight staining, but that doesn't happen anymore. The taste is slightly unpleasant when you rinse with water, but using a waterpik seems to have cancelled out that problem.

@@l.fsader6021 I swear I don't. I'm just someone who was told by his dentist at age 14 that my perio problems would cause me to have false teeth by age 25. That was in 1965. Teeth issues were a major part of my life for many years.

Was solid but then it turned into an ad. Also, you go on to say rinses need to change the pH of your mouth for dental health but the product you recommend says “neutral pH”
@dentalelle3 жыл бұрын
Yes there are ads :), you should be able to skip them though! Yes neutral pH's change the pH of the mouth to a closer neutral 7 so it isn't too acidic. A lot of mouthwashes aren't neutral

If I may say, try NOT to ever use anything prescribed (prescription drugs, medicines or even rinses) . There are many all-natural alternatives that will do the same thing. It will take some research & probably some trial & error. I understand there are times when prescriptions are needed, but we & many many others have had very healthy lives with ZERO prescriptions.
