In our first video for Predator, we go over the genesis of the film and the rumors that it came from a Hollywood Joke. We also explore the first versions of the script and the firing of its first director as well as the hiring of John McTiernan.

Excellent film to analyse and discuss. You've got my attention again. Predator is one of those movies I haven't yet bought on DVD and cannot say why. I watch it every time it comes around and always enjoy it. It's about as faultless a movie as you could find (IMHO of course). I am really looking forward to your next episodes on this one. OK, it's never going to be a high-brow movie but sometimes you just have to lie back and enjoy the fun. Thank you as ever for some very interesting content.

Thank you so much. I did not know much beyond the Predator movies. Just the van Damme thing 😀

Van Damme's Predator Rocky connection gets even deeper. Back when Sly was still developing Rambo 5 around the time Expendables 2 came out - the idea was to go batshit with Rambo and Predator-like creature duking it out in Alaska. Not sure if Van Damme involvement was mentioned in jest, but it is still sounds fun.

A really fascinating first part. I love behind-the-scenes stuff and know about the early version of The Predator and some of the early changes but those were mostly the issues when filming commenced. I've never heard the details of the first draft script stage. Can't wait for Part 2 and I'll share appropriate comments as your series movies on.

Really enjoyed this. Back in the 80s people understood what a hero was. Not an infallible Superman, but a limited human who has to use their skill and ingenuity to triumph. Some of those values are seen as "problematic" by some modern-day people. I'm not one of them.

I completely and absolutely agree with you Aldunlop. Who do kids have to look up to and inspire to be like in media thanks to modern films. The 70's, 80's and 90's were a great time to have examples.

@@RepresentThis It's this parasitical DEI nonsense that's pervading everything these days. Heroes are seen as a "Patriarchal Menace" by these modern toxic feminists sadly.

Oh my! Those pre-vis shots of what the Predator could have been - it doesn't bear thinking about. This movie is one of my all-time 'watchables',. I hope they have it on the play list in heaven - I could live an eternity and not get tired of the cinematography and story pacing.

I say watch it more so when you close your eyes you can see it. I have about 10 or 15 films I can recite every line, hum every tune and see every image cause I watched them so much. Predator is most likely one of yours.

@@RepresentThis This was 'THE' movie for me. When we only had VHS rentals, this was probably the first I bought as a Blockbuster 'ex-rental' when it came into the bargain bin , then Terminator 2. Wore those tapes to death, then bought brand new ones, then the DVDs (oops, I forgot Aliens, how could I?) Now I have the pristine DVD (Bluray doesn't do it for me, can't see any improvement, but I do have the 'De-specialised' Star Wars trilogy) and my digital media box copies. My kids joke that my media box has a better collection than Netflix! (Terabytes!)

@@beachcomberbob3496 I used to run video stores from 1998 - 2003 so I'm all about physical media. I have about 2,000 DVD's and yes, the 'De-specialized' are my versions of Star Wars as well.

Before they all get too old, I wanna see a Predators movie that gets Dutch, Harrigan, Ana, Royce, and Isabelle, even if it's just one scene of them telling stories at a table, then I want the rest of the movie to just be Yautja with little to no human interaction.
@RepresentThis

If you revisit the 1980 Greydon Clark film "It Came Without Warning," it wasn't the Thomas brothers, Jim and John, who originated the concept. However, the role of the Alien Hunter was indeed played by actor Kevin Peter Hall under the direction of Greydon Clark. I hypothesize that the Thomas brothers, who are writers, might have seen "It Came Without Warning" and drawn inspiration from it to craft their own narrative.

I'm hoping that your subsequent episodes go into how the final cast got to be the characters they were hired for. Arnie is a given, but how in the heck did Shane Black and Sonny Landham get hired? Not wanting to single them out particularly, but the other team members had some degree of acting history beforehand.

The second video covers some a fair amount of actor information like how all the actors were chosen and most of their background and tales on each of them. Part 2 also goes into detail over the Jean-Claude Van Damme hiring and dismissal. We really don't go over Bill Duke in detail until the 3rd video because I'm kind of a fan of his thanks to his film Deep Cover.
