Paul, if you put the trailer tires on the wrecker and then dyno it. You'll probably pick up 100 hp at the wheels. Just because you're not turning the massive tires. IMO, it would be a great idea to get that motor properly tuned as well.

Respect to Paul for being smart enough to be realistic about his expectations. Some people will bolt $500 of eBay tat to their engine, expect it to make 400hp and then, with dyno' tuning, another 100hp extra. People who've been around expect to be "disappointed" by dyno' results, and the results of tuning.
@rustyaxelrod Жыл бұрын
400ci and less than 300hp? I’m guessing you kept the tuning conservative to help it live longer? Not a bad plan really, especially if the torque number was decent. That’s a cool truck! 👍
@CraftwerksMC Жыл бұрын
I was a little surprised at the low numbers my own self. I could see being under 350 with the bigger tires but with the modifications Merlin quoted and the small trailer tires it should easily have hit 350 or more. Maybe it’s a stingy dyno and really conservative tune.

This is an amazing family everybody!!! I had the pleasure of meeting them yesterday, stopped in to buy something from the shack while I was visiting the area with my little brother. My cousin has known them for years and I couldn't pass up the opportunity. If you ever get the chance to stop by, DO IT! You know what you'll find? Paul is even nicer in person, Michelle is prettier (I've read the mean comments in the past), Grandma is just as sweet and feisty as you'd imagine she'd be, these aren't KZbin millionaires, they don't live in a huge house, the yard is smaller than it looks in the videos, this is an honest car guy with a yard full of projects, in a very small town, doing what he loves to do, with his family, and he's inviting us in every week to hopefully entertain us a bit. And its working. Oh, and they happen to live in an amazing part of this country (Zions Park is incredible). You have to visit, you have to support these guys, this is the kind of family content that needs to thrive in a pretty messed up world. Best of luck to this entire group (including Merlin, Chad, Matt, Robby), can't wait to see what the future holds for these good people!

The horsepower rated is a pretty good match for the FJ. Too much makes parts hit the ground at times. A tandem axle trailer with only 1 tire bubble ? Run it out. I bought a 14000 lb dump trailer with one tire sidewall bubble. My kid tells me to change it every time I haul something. I know if I change it I will never put it back on even as a spare. Pretty cool. Those guys really know what they are doing. It's all gain, and now you don't have that hidden drop. It's not so much about numbers at the end of the day, especially for a rock crawler. It's more about making an engine run right and get the most out of what it is in a smooth, predictable, and controllable way. And that is a ton of HP for the purpose. Which as far as I can tell, is shredding tires and crawling up cliffs.
