I am blessed to own several ESEE knives including the Laser Strike. The Laser Strike is one of my favorites but doesn't seem to have the popularity that other models do. I think it is a brilliant knife and solid value. A couple quick points: 1. The number on the blade is the serial number 2. Rowen is the maker (out of Idaho) and their 1095 heat treat is first rate. ESEE has recently had White River Knives make their newest Sencillo model. White River (out of Michigan) is another great maker. I own several of their knives as well. 3. The washer is the striker for the Ferro rod as you demonstrated. That is kind of awkward. Many people sharpen the knife spine in a section to 90 degrees to have a more convenient striker and remove the coating. The coating will not permit striking of the rod. 4. ESEE has the best warranty in the knife industry. Truly no questions asked- even if user error.

That is an excellent quality knife, you have some great friends. Up here in Canada it's the same, we have very little snow. You could file one side of that round washer completely flat and it would serve as a striker for your fire steel.

Very cool! ESEE certainly make a sturdy tool. I've got a couple of Izulas for camping. One set up as a necker and the other in a separate emergency survival kit. I reprofiled the bevel and they featherstick really well now. Looks like you had a good day with it 👍🏻 Edit: the back of that ferro rod deffo looks like magnesium, mate

I would take the coating off the blade. I did mine after I tried cleaning a deer the tallow off the deer stuck to the blade.took a bunch of cleaning to get it off,not to sanitary if you ask me.

Esee is a great brand. A bit too pricey for my budget. Same guy designed the Ontario RAT knives. I have carried the RAT 2 as my EDC for the better part of a year. I will stick with my BPS Adventurer.
