You are an excellent teacher (as well as sharpener) ! I love that you show us your process of adjusting a tool to make it "right" and work for you! Lots to learn here from you! Thank you!

Nice work, Paul! That's looks pretty good for your first weld! I love 2" belts for sharpening. Once you get used to it, you may want to try doing your initial work on the 2x42 and your refining work on the 1x30. The 2x42 should give you a straighter profile and speed up the rough work.
@ALXSHARPENАй бұрын
@@grantlauinger8663 i noticed that right away and it’s now my first running a 120 Cubitron just like you said and I agree doing the final edge on the 1x30 is still best imo but for corrections and re-profiling it’s pretty awesome. I still have to do some fine Tuning to my angle guide will probably make another so there will be some more welding in my future soon.
@512RyanАй бұрын
I'm curious to see if you end up doing the coarsest grit on the 2x42 & then refine on the 1x30's, that was my initial thought anyways. Looking forward to part 3!
@ALXSHARPENАй бұрын
@@512Ryan that’s what I did today it still needs some fine tuning so it was easier for me to do the A30 and A16 on the 1x30 when I get a chance I may make another angle guide.

The Grizzly sits much higher than the other two units on the downdraft table. The knife is right at eye level. Does that create any issues for you? I have an unrelated question. Could one use the slack portion of the 1x30 to re-convex salon shears? I’m trying to use my TSPROF 03 Pro Hunter to sharpen a pair. I bought the ultra convex attachment but am afraid to try it on the shears. I think it’s made for knives primarily. Your thoughts. Merry Christmas!
@ALXSHARPENАй бұрын
@@rickbottoms7838 sorry can’t help much on that I never did convex scissors on my KO 3 I have the same attachment but it is for knives. I have the convex clamp for my TAS I have only ever done straight scissors on my TSPROF

Oh i forgot the height isn’t a problem because my belt sharpeners are on a height adjustable table with 4 presets and I made one for the 2x42

I live in the UK and just received my Toolker out of China yesterday (about 27 day wait). 1 x 30 belts are hard to find here. 42 inch belts are hard as well. I was looking around and it seems that 50 x 915mm belts (2 x 36) are dirt cheap in China. You can't get Cubitron, but you can get Trizact and no name belts. There are 'big' versions of the Toolker in 2 x 36 available in alloy or plain painted steel. Not as nice as the Toolker, but cheaper or the same price with the same features. The 2 x 36 are the same size as fit my Multi-Tool grinder/belt grinder so I already have a bunch of brand new belts. How would the 2 x 42 compare to a 2 x 36 in your opinion for knife sharpening? I use my 2 x 36 Multi-tool to prep metal for tig welding and keep separate belts for stainless and carbon steel. That is about what it is good for as it does track well but has a vicious single speed. Satisfactory weld by the way. Not pretty, but it obviously does a good job of what you need it for.

@@brianpage1886 have you checked with Cliff Curry on 1x30 belts he’s out of Hawaii I know he ships USPS Priority Mail and I buy my belts from him because the are always really good and reasonably priced he also sells in bulk when he has them may be a good option for you if he ships internationally the link to his store is in my list of links at the top of my page

Just bought some belts from Cliff. He has the best quality materials that I have found. Shipping to the UK was reasonable. I will see how long it takes. He stocks everything I need and will save me hours.

I saw a video where a knife maker purposely abused & burnt up a motor on one these. If you are concerned about burning any electric motor up, attach a temperature sensor & monitor the temperature. Be cautious & take a break if it starts getting hot. Unless you are doing heavy stock removal quickly I sincerely doubt these motors will give-up.

German Metalworker here .. sry Dude, but insted of welding, may consider some JB-Weld Epoxy .. 80% of the Weld is close but not hitting it 😆 .. but i guess for what it is, it is enough
@ALXSHARPENАй бұрын
I said that in the video that if this didn't work i would use JB it is great stuff,but I didn't feel like waiting and I had this welder and really wanted to use it and like you said it worked and considering my amount of experience welding I have I think I did OK. I have banged it around pretty good to see if its welded and it's not coming apart-Don't worry, I won't be welding any critical infrastructures or taking anyone's welding jobs soon it's still safe for the general public out in Alexandria, VA but if you have any pointers for me I'm all ears

@@sylvainmorneau7083 I needed another 2x42 when I tried to cut away some of the metal on my 2x42 Bucktool after watching Cliff do it I went to far and weakened the frame and some belts I have stopped working well on it so did I. Need it “No” but I always love a good reason to bring a new tool in the shop and a lot of people asked for my thoughts on this particular unit so I got it. It’s nice but for sharpening like almost every machine needs some modification to be great.
