More often than not, it meant the death knell of a world, given how The Covenant pretty much always had orbital supremacy. The UNSC usually at least had a fighting chance on the ground, but once The Covenant capital ships opened up with the glassing beams, it was game over.

Remember that supply pods have physics, and will interact with your aircraft. It's best to stay level when dropping stuff off. Also don't drop stuff off while landed. Pods/Vics will do a little 'bounce' and then bounce straight into your aircraft causing an arma. Best to drop the stuff off and then land.

Pelicans really are cursed in Halo. I'd rather try hijacking a Phantom than ride in one of those death traps. Really nice op, UNSC and Insurrectionists fighting together against the Covenant. Rimmy leading his own Red Team was amazing. Perfect operation when you don't take into consideration how they lost more Pelicans to random occurrences than the enemy destroyed.

10:48 Baba O'Riley by The Who starts playing Yup. That's me. You're probably wondering how I got myself in this situation. Well, my SL called out Ghosts on the road ahead, so like a good little AT man, I pulled out my Spanker and started running across the street to my SL as I couldn't see them. That's when the Pelican took a hit from Covvie ack-ack, and in a panicked attempt to keep stable flight jettisoned their gausshog cargo directly above my head. It of course landed on me. My SL pulled me out, but I was in a bad way. They dragged me to the rear and threw me on the evac Pelican, and then I spent the next 18 months in traction and rehab for a spine broken in 3 places that left me paralyzed, both legs broken a total of five times, an arm broken in two, and a severe concussion that I still see bright spots in my vision from. But I made it out of that hellhole. There's plenty of my platoon that didn't.

The ironic thing about the Pelicans blowing up over and over again is similar to all of the problems the U.S military has faced with the V-22 Osprey. They tend to fall out of the sky as well

Yeah railguns are more of a complement to standard HE guns than a replacement. Since while railguns can achieve much higher velocity and penetration they don't have the necessary high explosive splash to take out groups of infantry or MG/ATGM emplacements. What I think we'll eventually get is a dual barrel system like on the Russian BMP-3 where there is both a 30mm autocannon and 100mm gun, but in 40-100 years the autocannon will be replaced with a railgun designed to take down AFVs.

Giving me spontaneous combustion PTSD from flying pelicans for my unit... I don't think I exploded that much though. Some are avoidable, some aren't. Maybe one or two at most in ops. Always the poor pilot gets blamed for corners cut in aviation safety :) There's also that fun bug where the pelican goes straight up to orbit at insane speeds, and goes into an uncontrollable nosedive immediately after. Another fun one was carrying a HEMMT truck via ropes at low alt. The truck suddenly became an immovable object and a pivot point for the pelican- pointing me straight at the ground. I managed to unhook the ropes and pull up just in time to scoot under some power lines.
