Quite a shame you skipped Imanbek's story here, as it's extremely interesting. He was completely unknown, randomly did his remix of Saint Jhn in just a few hours, using some very basic Vengeance samples - and uploaded it to some Russian social site. Then nothing happened and after a few months it suddenly blew up everywhere. The guy is working at a small railway station in Kazakhstan and got hundreds of millions of streams on his remix on both Spotify and KZbin...

on the popularity of a song due to a tv show or movie using said song: snow patrol made it big off the show grey's anatomy. they used various versions of "chasing cars" in the show... like 4 or 5 different times, I think. including a cast cover in their musical episode. love me some snow patrol. edit: ahhh the "bag of screaming goats" song (aka roses)... misheard lyrics for that song make me giggle every time. edit 2: "this is america" really is good.. i wonder what we'll think of it like 20 years from now... super curious.

That happens a lot with songs with good lyrics, or lyrics that can be used for certain situations in a movie. How to Save a Life works perfectly for a lot of scenes in films (as would You Found Me). Feels Like the End works in the same way in White Collar. The lyrics fit what the scene required

Yes but this song in particular still falls within the country genre, hence the name Country Rap or Country Trap music which is a perfect name that encompasses both the country elements of the song and the trap/rap elements of the song. Just like we have Outlaw Country and Rebel Country and Country Rock and Country HipHop.....it is still country music just a different sub-genre. Get off your high horse, take off your rose colored glasses, and let people make new music without being a gate-keeping asshole about it. If people love and enjoy it then that should be all that matters. Country music can’t stay in the past forever or it will eventually die out, we need to let it evolve and change so further generations can love it too.

sometimes I worry about Joel. I was watching congratulations (you guys all know it) and I heard that apparently he was drunk while filming the whole thing and didn't sleep for 48 hours or sommin. I don't know whether that's true but it makes me really sad. As well as this, listening to his stuff like Numb and Livin for that etc makes me feel that he's really fed up with life and it makes me so sad that someone so amazing and brings so much joy into the world is so sad. I know he went through some tough things when he first started out in music and stuff like tha. I don't know why I'm saying this it's just that joel is my favorite KZbinr and to see him sad just hurts me idk why. And joel if you see this can you please just let us know if you are truly okay. He was drunk for the filming of Congratulations. Dave (Boyinaband) talked about it in his bts video. But you have to give the guy a break on that one, in my opinion. He flew for 11 hours without sleep to get there for the filming then proceeded to film, sing, and just work on the video in general for several hours after that. In reference to Joel getting drunk, Dave said something along the lines of "It didn't help with how tired he was, but he was more enthusiastic to film." Then once they were finished filming, Joel flew another 11 hours to get back to America.

She wanted it extremely authentic and took that in one take. Also she wanted to work with Timbaland but the request was pending too long as her visa was not long enough. The problem I think is she criticized the Srilankan government often very openly about the war crimes and genocide of Tamils. But I still think she had a great influence on the music itself. Tiktok may gotten Old Town Road on the charts, but the controversy is what allowed to become a phenomenon. Like just think about how many people were exposed to this song through various hot takes about "whether it's country", "whether billboard's decision to remove it from the country charts is racist", "what even counts as country anymore", and "should the concept of genre (in regards to music specifically)just die or nah".

Old Town Road being removed was actually a race thing. Most modern country music is heavily influenced by pop, rap, and even hip hop. They just didn't want a black artist charting for country.

lol i remember back when old town road blew up it was right at the end of my school year and at our school dance (we were in 5th grade btw) our dj kept getting requests to play it and at the end he was like "ok we have time for 1 more song" and every single person screamed to him that he should play old town road and our principal (who was wonderful) didn't want us to be upset so she hooked her phone up to the speakers and just pulled the song up from youtube XD it was so fun honestly
