When I first learned about about the Dygma Defy, I was already impressed by the physical design of the keyboard. I consider myself pretty forward thinking about computer input devices. The "one click-done" solution as I like to call it. Always trying to figure out the shortest distance between your thoughts and actions. Most of the people I know, when I talk about this stuff just look at me like deer in the headlights. When I heard you guys talk about Superkeys, my jaw literally dropped. Normally I'M the one who thinks about this stuff! I went from "not being sure to buy one" to almost buying two. Superb job by the Dygma team!

That's amazing! We also like this approach of making things better and easier, that's why we love Superkeys, Dual-function keys, One-shot modifiers, and all those specific features that empower our keyboards. At the office, we're always trying to improve each one's layouts and functions 🤣

My Raise has two layers that I shift between as needed: one standard typing layout (basically a normal keyboard with delete, backspace, and enter on the thumb keys), and an "action" layout. The second layer has arrow keys, a numpad, media controls, cut/copy/paste macros, and mouse controls on WASD. I use the bottom outer thumb keys to change between layers, left locks to each layer (effectively toggling between them) and right shifts to the action layer.
@DygmaLab
@DygmaLab Жыл бұрын
Nice! That's a very complete system with only 2 layers right there. You can also create a new one with symbols and even some other shortcuts you use more often ❤️

For CTRL+C, CTRL+V, i like to change it into my mouse. It's the Zealots C-18 that Dygma has showed before, it's possible to change the side buttons into macros as well. Usually when i need these shortcuts, i need to use my mouse to get there. I found this configuration to be more comfortable.
@DygmaLab

Sounds cool! I have my CTRL+C and V in Capslock in a Superkey. If the mouse macro works for you than you're good to go ❤️
@kentslocum
@kentslocum Жыл бұрын
Good point! I'm usually highlighting a section of text, CTRL+C or CTRL+X, and then clicking somewhere else to CTRL+V. So it makes sense to link those to a mouse. However, I don't have a mouse with side buttons, and I'm curious about giving the keyboard-as-a-mouse possibility a try.

Thanks Dominique. This video helps a lot to understand those special functions. We are now waiting for a video explaining the Preferences panel, complex also (especially regarding Typing). I can't activate Dual functions under MacOS. Worth noting it should be really called tap-and hold function, as having two different names for the same function is confusion. I've tried Dual function on a regular letter D, and on a French accent letter. In both case I have the same behavior: tapping once the key doesn't give any output now! Neither does holding the key output anything in this case. Attributing a Layer to Dual-function does activate the layer on hold, but the key doesn't output anything on tap now. Worth noting I am on a French Mac Keyboard. and that I downgraded to Bazecor 1.3.11 in a failed attempt to update my firmware to 1.2.7 beta, so firmware is still on 1.2.6.
@DygmaLab
@DygmaLab 10 ай бұрын
We are glad this video helped you! We will have to make a part 2 for the Preferences panel 😜 Your problem with the dual function must be because you don't have the values set right. In preferences you have to adjust the values of "typing preferences", the hold timeout and the overlap threshold. That should work for you 😊
@PierreJohnsonOnline
@PierreJohnsonOnline 10 ай бұрын
@@DygmaLab Dominique, the problem was explained by the Dygma team on Discord. Dual function only activate a special key like Shift on hold, and not Shift+key. So no d and D for example, but d and Shift.
@PierreJohnsonOnline
@PierreJohnsonOnline 10 ай бұрын
@@DygmaLab I couldn't get Dual functions to work properly, as they would cause a chording issue as in French "le" which would give Spanish "el" !, as I described in Discord. I couldn't find a proper combination of settings which would work for me.

I Use it at least 1.5 year. It’s a really nice app. One thing I’m missing is area selection of buttons and group edit them. Imagine I want rainbow LED across keyboard. Now I need to select each button one by one and assign color. Would be much easier to do it as in graphical editor by selecting columns via one mouse movement.

Combos are a bit misleading. Usually a combo key is the other way around (thinking QMK): for example pressing two keys as the same time triggers another key. So J+K triggers ESC for example. Any plans to integrate this in Bazecore?
@abc33155
@abc33155 Жыл бұрын
They use Kaleidoscope instead of QMK and looking at the examples at ReadTheDocs, it does support chords. I don’t know about Bazecore.

We call it combos but maybe you know them as shortcuts...🤔 We want to have chording (pressing two keys as the same time triggers another key) available in the future too.

Does superkeys still glitch out a bit with base key input? I had to stop using it on the Raise on my main layer because of constant typos due to the superkey waiting to see if it'd be held or not. Fantastic experience other than, btw!

Yeah, they still lag a bit, but you can use them in not so used letters or even on other keys that are not pressed frequently (like capslock for example). We want to continue developing them in the future and improving those issues 🥰

As I understand it, the keyboard settings are stored onto the keyboard so you can use it with any computer you attach the keyboard to. However, how do the keyboard settings on the computer itself interact with the settings on the keyboard? Does the keyboard "overwrite" those settings, or do I have to set the computer settings to US for it not to interact with the keyboard in a weird way?
@DygmaLab
@DygmaLab Жыл бұрын
That's correct, the keyboard settings are stored on the keyboard. You can have the computer in any language you want, but you'll want to configure your keyboard according to that language layout. We offer many language layouts in the software to help with that configuration. This other video explains it pretty well: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fp-lfaKQfNCDncU

I don't understand how to change my default layout from azerty to french (bépo). Selecting it in the keyboard layout in the parameters does not work. The layout was change in bazor but the button "save changes" stays disabled
@DygmaLab
@DygmaLab 9 ай бұрын
Have you also changed the input language in your computer to bepo? The preferences in Bazecor changes the representation of the keys but what determines the layout is the input language on the computer.
@ccopol
@ccopol 9 ай бұрын
@DygmaLab OK! My bad. But is it possible to work on a colleague's computer (in AZERTY) without changing his input language? I suppose I'll have to dedicate a layout that converts AZERTY to BÉPO, am I right?

MacOS doesn't like this application in its current state. Says “Bazecor can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software. This software needs to be updated. Contact the developer for more information."
@letiede9094
@letiede9094 Жыл бұрын
MacOS doesn't like much to be honest. To use it anyway, you can go to the system settings, search for "security" and look for a mention that says "Basecore was blocked from use because it is not from an identified developer." And click on the button ""Open Anyway".

@DygmaLab
@DygmaLab Жыл бұрын
Hey folks, we've actually had some problems with signatures on the last couple versions of Bazecor. As suggested, you can bypass that security with the "open anyway" procedure and it should work fine. If you don't want to bypass it, you can use Bazecor 1.0.0, it doesn't have the Virtual Defy features but is a signed copy that wouldn't present issues: github.com/Dygmalab/Bazecor/releases/tag/bazecor-1.0.0 🥰
