Steve, this video just came up in my algorithm but, I wanted to comment anyway. I have become a huge fan of jig fishing ever since tying one on in August 2023 while basically junk fishing. Couldn't catch a bass on anything I threw until I tied on a seldom used swim jig I had in my box for years. That day I used a technique that landed several 3 pounders and, I have been using it to this day including Winter fishing. I cast my jigs, all of them because, my fish are out there. I let it fall to the bottom, drag it a shorts ways or, until it gets stopped by a grass line and then I will hop it of SNAP it off the bottom. That technique drives them crazy. To date, I have caught multiple bass using a jig this way and my elbow soreness is the proof! One thing, I need to get a Medium Heavy rod as my Medium is making it harder to work/hop/snap that 3/8 and 1/2 ounce jigs! Good stuff even though I'm a year late watching.

If your new to jig fishing please be careful when performing a vertical hook set, especially if your fishing shallow water, if you miss, that jig will come out of the water at a phenomenal rate. Awesome advise on jig fishing, always enjoy watching your channel Steve, thanks for all you do !!!

The hit and run leading to more fish really caught my attention never thought about that makes perfect sense though...as I have learned from your under water videos...there is usually more around

It took me a long time figure it out, but it holds true almost every time. Wish I would have figured it out earlier. Lol

Thanks for those great tips, Steve!!!👊🏻 Do you suggest using braid with lighter finesse jig? Stay Safe & God Bless!!!

I do use braid on my finesse jigs. Usually with a fluoro leader. Great question.

Hey Steve, do you use a leader when jig fishing?… also thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience.
@SteveRogersOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
Excellent question. If the water is really clear I do. If there is some stain I go straight braid when I can.

Thanks. I struggled. Got my first jig fish last spring....all big. But I cheated.....they slammed it so hard it did not take too much skill to figure out "Geez, I got a fish"
@SteveRogersOutdoors Жыл бұрын
Those first jig bites are key for the confidence for sure. I'm glad they were all big ones! It took me an entire season fishing only a jig many years ago to get it figured out. Good luck this year!

As I have aged I find it difficult to be a good line watcher. I have considered switching from blue/green braid to yellow. I was wondering what you thought about that? I have been using a fluorocarbon leader a lot more lately in my home water which is pretty clear. Your video on line visibility doesn’t speak to yellow braid. Thoughts?
@SteveRogersOutdoors Жыл бұрын
I use hi-vis yellow on my spinning reels. I really, really, like it. It has helped me notice bites I never would have seen otherwise. I attach a fluoro leader to it as well.

@@SteveRogersOutdoors I’ve been doing that for Crappie for years, but never tried it for Bass or other species. Time to respool.

Do you get as many bites with straight braid?
@SteveRogersOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
When I am fishing water with a little more stain to it I will use straight braid all the time. Great question. I prefer to use straight braid whenever I can, but in the ultra clear water I fish a lot I believe I get more bites with the leader.
@steve4321able2 жыл бұрын
I almost always use straight braid. When I switch to fluorocarbon it's like I can't feel anything.
@SteveRogersOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
Straight braid is definitely the best. For sure.

Why do you cast and reel with the same hand?
@SteveRogersOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
I feel way more comfortable that way. I do have left hand reels, but still prefer to use right handed models.
