Have you looked into adding code to the Marlin firmware for sending the pause command to OctoPrint when a filament runout is detected from the filament runout sensor while it is still connected to the printers mainboard instead of the Raspberry Pi board? I have been searching for some help with this. I would like it to work with both a print from the SD card and OctoPrint. Thank you for any help.

AMAZING! Thank you so much! I've tried different cables/ports/procedures and could never get through to my CR-10 Smart to tune PID after switching nozzles! I just used the $4 3' Onn brand cable from Walmart and I connected to COM4 with Pronterface on the first try! I'm running firmware v1.0.10 so instead of using Pronterface to tell the printer to save the command I just went into Settings > ADV.SET. > Temp. PID and manually entered the results there. I was worried if I forced them through it might brick the unit. Also thanks for pointing out the 8GB Netac SD cards, my printers seem to like those ones the best for some reason. Even the SanDisk Industrial won't read sometimes for reasons unknown. My first printer came with the older firmware and looked identical once opened. My newer printer which came with v1.0.10 has a different cord on the fan (magnet shield) and the USB cord was zip tied to the other cable in two places and there was 3x the amount of hot glue. Cable management was much cleaner on my newer printer. Other than that the procedure was identical!

Another question… I just did finished up installing pi to cr10 smart according to your video. I’ve had beautiful prints since I got the machine. Try out first print through octo, which was sent through prusaslicer which is linked to octo and nozzle was hitting bed. I though I read somewhere that the able mesh was stored to sd card well starting a print and adjusts accordingly. Is that true? You think something could have changed or been altered after switching the plug around etc for the pi install?
@EmbraceMaking2 жыл бұрын
The mesh should be saved on the controller not the RPI / Octopi... did you happen to change your z offset in prusa slicer? Or is your start gcode different? I would rerun the ABL sequence on the machine and let it save the mesh again and then try again, let me know what happens!

Hmm have not run into this as I left the firmware alone while the printer was working and not giving me issues. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Eventually it did break anyways and now it sits in the corner waiting for a new mainboard lol.

Hi new to all this. What is the software your using to connect to printer? Cheers
@EmbraceMaking2 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, are you referring to the first software I used to test the connection? In that case it is called 'Repetier Host' . Alternatively you can also use 'Pronterface'. Both are what is known as print host software and essentially tell the printer what to do over serial connection and use the gcode commands. Octoprint is actually the same thing, but instead of requiring your PC to run it, it runs on a dedicated Raspberry Pi. The Pi connects to your home network through wifi or ethernet and then you can access the Octoprint interface over your PC. So it essentially frees your PC from being tethered to your 3D printer and turns it into a remote print host. Very handy when you start collecting more 3D printers ;)

@Embrace Making > My CR-10 Smart arrived today and went through this process so I could use OctoPrint. Everything went smoothly, BUT - have you tested the JOG functions within OctoPrint?? It appears OctoPrint ignores (or just doesn't know, or something else) about the limit switches. I could jog indefinitely and grind the hell out of the stepper motors. If I use the JOG Controls from the Printers LCD Panel, it stops as expected when hitting the limit switches..... so it's gotta be an octoprint issue I suspect? Any thoughts??

I'll have to try and think back to why... I remember poking and prodding the connections with my meter, I believe it had something to do with either the 5V or GND ... because the TX and RX of those two connectors are connected so as you said, it will still communicate with the main board.
