Throttle controllers are great! I run one on my 4Runner. I also re-geared. I'm on 34s and it seems to be the perfect combination. Cheers!

I have the hikeit and crazy how something like that works. I leave it on cruise then hike it when want to pass and eco on the freeway. Good cheap install

There's one called Hikeit that also has the auto-control. That one also has an interesting feature where if you're in any mode, economy for instance, and you need to really pass, there's a third button on the remote that switches to the "ultimate" setting, press it again and it takes you back to your previous selection. I find the biggest benefit is not necessarily the 0 to 60 time, but just an everyday driving. In my 4Runner, I noticed that I need to give it less throttle to get a downshift when climbing grades, and also that downshift is more seamless and less dramatic. We all know these vehicles can't hold any type of grade in top gear, so they need to downshift. With mine, it fel like I'd have to get into the throttle unnecessarily far to trigger the downshift, then it came on very dramatically, and seemed to make more noise than anything else. Now the shift comes on sooner, and keeps me in the RPM range I need to pull the grade without any fanfare.

Might be time to rethink the build parts if you are scared to do a 0-60 run in your truck lol. Great video btw.

I've had half a dozen toyota trucks. The new motor in the tacoma is a turd. Got rid of that dog. Driving an older 4runner with the blessed 4.0.....it kicks ass!! Timmy C Arizona

I have a 13 4Runner and I think the 4.0 is an absolute turd, I can't imagine how bad the 3.5 must be.

@@trailrunnah8886 it has nothing to do with the motor. 3.5 has more horses than the 4.0. It actually has to do with the programming in your throttle and transmission… you have to get them retuned, it’s a pretty none issue in the Toyota world

@@muskbeard3924 oh I'm well aware of the tuning issues. I know there are aftermarket tunes available for the Taco that are supposed to help, but as far as I know there are none available for the 4L. It certainly doesn't help that both those engines are tuned for high RPM power, they don't make a lot of power lower in the RPM range where the transmission wants to keep them. So it's the worst of both worlds, sluggish transmission tuning combined with no low-end torque.

Jeep lost me years ago with electrical issues that couldn’t be fixed. One in a wrangler and the other in a grand Cherokee.

I actually just installed the newest version on the Tacoma and it’s awesome. It’s Bluetooth and has a lock out feature so you rig will have a dead throttle if anyone tries to steel it.

Oh, and how about a long-term update on that S&B cold air intake on the 4Runner? Any change in MPG with that?

Trevor said that the 4Runner runs a bit smoother with a bit more power. No mpg difference. He said the power isn’t really noticeable. He does like the clean air though. He hasn’t had dust get into the intake since putting it on.

remember if you're going to be the display on your cluster it's actually closer to 68 to 69 mph cause of difference in wheel revolution

Very true and I was using my odometer. I figured as long as I did and 6 runs and hit the same speed it would at least be in the ballpark. Definitely not scientific since I was on open road, waiting for traffic to clear, not in a straight line and using a cell phone stopwatch while driving. But the rough times are close.

@@AdventureBuilt try using a GPS to get you closer with your speed. That's what we had to do in our 4R. 33's make the speedometer almost exact but 35's is a bit more difference. At 71 we are actually traveling 75.

You are misleading people. There is positively no way you will convince me that a throttle controller took 6 seconds off of your 0-60 time, because it won't. You even mention being afraid to push your truck that hard. A 0-60 test is foot to the floor, not whatever it is you did.

@@AdventureBuilt Times do lie when you're not full throttle. Explain to me how it was a miracle device for your truck but made literally ZERO difference on the 4runner? Likely because the 4runner was actually full throttle both runs. Throttle controllers do not give a vehicle more power. They only change throttle response. This is not an engine tuning device.

@@white09tc1 the Tacoma and the 4Runner are very different engine and transmission setups. Trevor also wasn’t keeping very good time. Believe what you want but it definitely makes a difference in how responsive your truck will launch and how fast it will accelerate. You are correct it’s not an engine tuning device it just overrides the computer lag in the throttle.

@@AdventureBuilt yes, a throttle controller will change the sensitivity of the throttle pedal. This can make the driving experience FEEL better, and at part throttle can have slight improvements. But 100% throttle is 100% throttle. Putting out a video claiming that this will make your truck/vehicle faster is snake oil. The fact that you aren't thinking about, or maybe don't know, the amount of additional power that would be needed to make the claimed difference shows you're the perfect person to market this to. If you'd like to prove me wrong, buy a device called Dragy. It's a gps device that records performance metrics. Make another video, left foot on brake, right foot on gas. Release brake and smash throttle. If you get nearly the same results, I'll eat my words and buy one of these and tell everyone else they should too.
