I really like the 2 game Swiss rounds. I detest intentional draws. Also, the second game being the tiebreaker incentivizes finishing both games on time.

They did mention intentional draws, so far as they don't want them. They don't want people playing the tournament they want people playing the game. I think the extra points for going 2-0 is to prevent people from making intentionally going 1-1 the new intentional draw.

As someone new to playing tournaments with a Swiss format, I think I like this. I thought it was weird that players could coast on the last round by not playing while others had to. Maybe I'm not seeing the big picture, but this seems like the right way to go.

@@airmarkus I don't know that the standard best of 3 that games was originally designed with the intentional draw in mind but rather people optimizing the system of play in their favor. I'm sure people will do it with this new system as well but it certainly seems like it is harder to "play the tournament" as they put it

2 game rounds, u should ALWAYS go 1st for game 2. 1st game is blind (no clue what opponent is playing). Game 2 Mulligan accordingly.

You can still ID on last round if the extra points puts you safe from any 3 points contender or secure a top spot potentially. they said its 9 rounds so max points is 27. 8-0-1 will give 25 points 7-0-2 will give 23 points. etc. Correct me if I made a mistake but let's say for example I Am 7-0-1 and in last round I ID to my opponent, also 7-0-1 and we get to make sure to get to 23 points because except 32 players all the rest of the field are at 19 points for example (6-1-1). Both players would then ID mathematically for a guaranteed top 32 spot.

I think people will be less freaked out about the 512 cap when they announce more cities hosting the tournament.

I have faith my friends Ryan miller and Steve Warner listened and they raise the cap from 512 too 1k. I hope when they announce tournament registration day and time people can get in the tournament and no one gets upset.

I have a feeling they just don't have the finances to open it up to 1000 people initially, and are waiting to see if there is a demand (and use the pre-regs) to open it up to more later.

Game 2 is going to be a more skill based game as both players know each other’s deck, so it can be considered more as a tie breaker maybe?

If i understand what they were saying correctly about day 2 it sounded like they plan it being a 64 person single elimination bracket thats why it best 2 out of 3. at least thats what I thought the way they talked about day 2. but we will find out soon enough.

I'm new to card games. How does the challenge work? Do you buy an entry ticket ahead of time? Do you have to qualify ahead of time? Or what? I'm 3hrs away from the Germany one and free that weekend.

I figured the 3rd tie breaker being "Most game 2 wins" is because the person who wins game 2 *should* be the better player on average, yeah? At that point, both players know what deck they are playing against and have had a chance to adjust their strategies.

It also incentivizes being good at winning a game you go second. If you go second and win game 1, it is a huge advantage. I guess the only question is what is worth more: putting yourself in a potentially much worse situation in Game 1 to make Game 2 very “easy,” or setting the tone on game 1 and having your going second game be after you have already seen their deck. I could see either being a viable strategy, especially with different styles of decks (the most stark contrast I would imagine would be between Aggro’s and Control’s strategies).

Totally agree, which is why I like the change so far. It opens up more “design space” within the tourney metagame. Right now it is “win the dice roll, have the advantage” which never feels good. I hope it all plays out well in practice, too.

I've only ever seen event promos come out raw. If you go, plan to bring your own. At best, they'll be in plastic.

to be honest i didnt read the commets so i just hope that im not repeating somtehing someone said already :D soooo the 2 game is not a tie bracker ... on the first day you colleckt points if you win one you get 1 point ich you win the secound game you get 1 point if you win both games you get 3 points it is just a nice way to help new players that would not make the cut can see oh this tornament i got 6 points so next tournament ill try to get more. ireally think it is a good descission i dont like that they change it for the top cut ! in the points system every match mathers but in best of 3 its like if you get stompt the first game you'll think damn man and i have to beat that guy 2 in a row ? so i think that new system will reduce the time from the tornament and it will get every game spycier because they have to finish the games and you oly get points for winning

I’m familiar with cuts to day 2, just wasn’t aware it was such a large number they. Cut too. For most of the games I’ve played it’s only that large of a cut for 3 day events not 2 day/ events.

Yea, it’s basically the same as just playing the round. But the difference is with players being able to get bonus points for 2-0 it still may be more difficult in tournaments to secure you spot in top cuts
