I gotta say Danya your videos are the first ones I've seen that really helped me understand certain concepts in chess that were so foreign to me before. Stuff like forming an attack, occupying a certain space. I've been a casual player for quite a while now, started out at 800 a couple of months ago, now at 1300. Your content truly is the best out htere, keep it going!

It is worth saying that in this variation of the Panov, white can go for a piece sacrifice, where black's king is stuck in the center and white has a lot of activity as compensation. Engines (and GMs) make a draw out of it, but for amateur players it's a really fun position to play, I have got it twice with white and won both times. This one: 8. Qb3 Bxf3 9. gxf3 Nb6 9... e6 10. Qxb7 Nxd4 11. Bb5+ Nxb5 12. Qc6+ Ke7 13. Qc5+ Nd6 14. Nxd5+ exd5 15. O-O

Danya I just want to say I absolutely love your videos and content in general! You're the best man! So with that being said I wanted to suggest a video idea. I think it would be so cool if you somehow setup a classical style online chess game against another strong player and commentated your thought process throughout the game in similar style to the speedrun. I personally would be in love with a super in depth live game analysis of yours. But regardless, cheers from San Francisco and hope your spring is going great!!

It seems that when you want to do some deep calculations you look away from the board. Is my perception correct? If I want to calculate I find it much easier to look at the board. I am not even sure I can do it without view of the board. Is there an advantage to doing it in your head without looking at the board?
@Jj82op
@Jj82op 4 ай бұрын
I depends from person to person, if intuitively you have to look at the board to calculate, keep doing it that way
@ruthxk7844
@ruthxk7844 4 ай бұрын
More advanced players calculate without looking at the board so that they don't confuse the position in their head with the position they are seeing in the physical board. For example, if you already moved the bishop and are able to visualize it in its new position, it's easier to keep track of it than if you are physically seeing the bishop in its initial position, you may get confused and think it's still there. But it takes time to visualize without a board. It is a skill we can train though!
@shawncollins1423
@shawncollins1423 4 ай бұрын
@@Jj82op Thanks. I probably have to continue looking at the board, as I don't see anything (or anything much)without it.
@shawncollins1423
@shawncollins1423 4 ай бұрын
@@ruthxk7844 That's interesting. I didn't know that. Thanks for the explanation. And if I can train myself to visualize without looking at the board, then I will be convinced that anyone can do it.
@ruthxk7844
@ruthxk7844 4 ай бұрын
@@shawncollins1423 There are several methods for it, I haven't trained that much so I can't visualize much yet, but slowly getting better even without training much. There are some free android apps like "Blindfold Chess Training" or "Visualization Trainer" that may help you with that!

That Caro Kann line (or rather a variant of it) is in part at least why i stopped playing the Caro Kann. The side line? I think is the term, sacs a piece in exchange for a crazy attack. Still computer says its a draw but in my opinion white is having all the fun

I'd imagine after Nfg5 you can play g6 stopping the infiltration by the queen onto h5. Plus his knight on e5 will then still be blocking his bishop.

I stopped plying the Panov Attack because white is under a lot of pressure to attack in a complicated game. Every piece exchange helps black, so I think in practice it is much easier to play as black. Since I have started playing the Fantasy variation against the Caro, my results have been much better. White only plays the Fantasy variation in 3% of Caro games, according to the Lichess database, so the vast majority of times black does not know the theory of this dangerous line.
