David Pawson says, when you first read the book of Proverbs, it seems to be a jumble of folk sayings or just common sense - except that sense isn’t all that common. Solomon collected most of the proverbs, some of them Arabic and some Egyptian which he put in a context of God, as well as many he wrote himself. They don’t deal with spirituality, but they focus on day to day life and many of them are still used today though people often don’t realize where they originated. The key to reading these proverbs is to recognize yourself in them. The book is really saying godliness is worked out in real life - it’s not just something you do on Sundays in church. As David Pawson says, there is nothing secular except sin in God’s sight. Every job is sacred to God whether you’re a computer operator, taxi driver or preacher. David sees this book as ‘the key to the good life’. The Bible talks about the good life in moral terms rather than material terms. Proverbs is about what we are saved for, not what we are saved by. Salvation is a process - God is saving us to be sensible people who can make the most of life and be useful to him again. A proverb is not a promise.

Honesty is always the best policy whether it works out well or not. God hates liars, so we are to be honest and tell the truth at all times - no matter what.

22:45 I can't imagine a reason ever to not be honest. If you lose your business, so beat it. Being honest is more important in God's eyes than keeping your money. Only those who are willing to lose their life will keep it. I was in court and the judge asked me a question, he asked me if I still believed the girl that was persecuting me was still possessed by a demon. I knew if I said no that he would let me off the hook. But I stayed honest and said yes, because it was the truth. And she immediately won her case. I feel just in the eyes of God and stayed true to his word. Just because the outcome didn't result in my favor doesn't matter. What matters is staying just in the eyes of God. I cannot agree with this teaching. ALWAYS BE HONEST!

There's a type of "honesty" that can be foolish. And a type of dishonesty that can be wise. Take Solomon for example, when he ordered the baby to be cut in half, did he honestly intend to do so, or did he do it to expose the dishonesty of another? That is wisdom. Not to be dishonest for personal gain or wickedness, but there is a way to go about it. That's wisdom. Say, if I see someone get threatened with a knife and my phone battery is dying and I pretend to call the police to save a life? I lied. When the women told Pharao that the egyptian women were too quick to give birth which is why they wouldn't kill the boy babies, was that the real reason? No, they feared God. Be honest. Be true. But be wise about the nuances that sometimes require discretion.

@@MessyLittleFoodie First the object of the story being money versus the life of a baby is incomparable. The life of a child is worth more than all the wealth of the world so don't even think for a second you can compare these two things. Second, if anyone ever asks you a question you will answer honestly if you walk in spirit and truth. We do not deceive anyone even in order to do good. Paul even wrote this in the new testament. You people need to learn your bibles a lot better! You are literally saying it's OK to lie, if good results. Well let's see what the Bible has to say about that. Romans 3:7-8 Someone might argue, “If my falsehood enhances God’s truthfulness and so increases his glory, why am I still condemned as a sinner?” Why not say-as some slanderously claim that we say-“Let us do evil that good may result”? Their condemnation is just! And there you have it. We will not lie, cheat, steal or sin at all in order that good will result. It amazes me how many of you try to go against the word of God because you think you are right over his word. Please listen next time. God bless.

I think you misunderstood David. He does not condone dishonesty. Rather, he is saying this: Don't you ever think that honesty will ALWAYS save you from a situation. In your case, you told the truth, nonetheless, you lost the case. That's exactly what David meant. He is not saying you should have lied. He focuses on the difference between a proverb and a promise. James told the truth and it cost him his head. Peter told the truth and was saved from prison by angels. But God was glorified in both situations.
@rebornasdavid
@rebornasdavid Жыл бұрын
@@Nyamekye_I didn't misunderstand at all. Don't try to cover up his words for him. He literally says sometimes honesty may be the best policy and sometimes not. Then he continues in telling us that scripture contradicts itself when God's word is perfect and doesn't contradict itself at all ever. Where you think you found a contradiction you only found a misunderstanding of your own interpretation.

i think that there are proverbs that have 100% promises specially the ones that claim truths about God's responses to the righteous & wicked behavior's . " depends on the particular contents of each proverb" Solomon strikes as a mind that completely understands reality's in the community ,a firm common sense about places and people ,process's and a respect for the wisdom in all sound minds and the work that's been done by people around and about. i think he's saying you have to work quite hard at studying and remembering and understanding his teachings so it helps you in your own living. it's not a read and listen only once book. ( - : , not even a hundred times , not even 1000 read throughs , you can keep chewing nutritious intellectual meals from Solomon's books many many years and it still yields more. if that's all k1-12 and secondary school pupils studied the world would be a better place.

I love DP, but i think there is a problem when the majority of your teaching is telling the audience why other teaching on the book is wrong. That's not to say we shouldn't correct wrong readings of the text - but its better to correct what is wrong, by presenting, and focusing on what is right.
