i totally understand that situation of unmasking and then being in the sensory overload where everything sets you off and makes you mad and you wonder how the heck you were ever able to cope with it all previously it's great that you are able to be this open and vulnerable though and are self-aware enough to identify the somatic sensations you're experiencing in real time and try to get through them - your therapist must be proud of you :)

I hold myself by 3 core values of authenticity, transparency and vulnerability. I know I have the tools and resources from my experiences and education to help others.

Thank you for opening up. This is very relatable. Neurodivergent people can allow ourselves to be ourselves even though we have faced trauma for it - now we are in a position where we are not helpless.

It’s so interesting and alarming learning what’s me & what’s coping mechanism.

From one to another - it’s okay to feel … I’m sorry you are going through this life altering period- but you’re right, you will get through this. Sometimes we just go through that mountain - not over or even around.

Basically your mind is caught up in a state of cognitive dissonance, typically described as holding 2 conflicting beliefs but it's a bit more than that. So your subconscious held a world view in which your conscious experience is founded upon, this creates a conscious comfort zone, which you described as a patched coping self preservation mechanism. When your world view is shattered, it shatters your conscious comfort zone and your mind literally can't function until it rebuilds and new world view foundation, which your conscious awareness can prescribe to. In your case, the world view shift was extreme and therefore your sense of cognitive dissonance is extreme. Essentially what's happening is that you are molting/shedding off a belief system and your mind is trying to remap and rebuild a new one, this could take 2 weeks before things start realigning. Your mind should then start producing thoughts that self reflect your new awareness. You're good, trust the process, your self awareness is good. You should look into EMDR, BLS, EFT.
