Achilles for me was my most-anticipated, but also one I was afraid would disappoint. I'm glad to say that from my two games with him so far, I've not only found a new favorite fighter... I've also managed to take out every single fighter in and win both fights.

Awesome! He is very strong. Quite a puzzling fighter to play both as and against due to how differently the game can go based on whether Pat is dead or alive. Lots of fun!

@@zeroskatr12 I'm glad that he can fight his opponents to a standstill with the versatility in his deck, where similarly proficient brawlers like Arthur and Beowulf have to be a little bit more conservative because of their special abilities. "He could jab, he could take a hit, he could keep on comin'!" is the line from 'Hercules' that I think sums him up best within the context of this game.

Another layer to Under Achilles’ Helm as well, is that if Patroclus is defeated as your opponent is pushing exhaustion and/or fleeing, it’s a +4 to movement to close the distance. That’s huge and adds to its value in the endgame.

Definitely! Helm is a fantastic boost value and often times exactly what you need in an endgame scenario. If they're all discarded then it's too easy for the opponent to run away to safety.

Only played Achilles once and it was when we first opened the box so he steamrolled the opponent. (definitely seems to be a blitz type character - get in there and crush ASAP) So I haven't got a great feel for him, but I do want to do a match of him vs Beowulf and call it BROFIGHT!

Hey Zero. I’ve got another random rules question for you. When a card says “draw cards based on damage dealt”, is that total damage unblocked or damage taken? Ex. If you play a 4 attack card that has that effect against a 1hp sidekick and the defender decides to not block. Is that a 4 card draw or a 1 card draw? I assume you’ll know the answer… which leads me to my next question. How do you know all the minute details of the rules? Do you have a direct line to the Unmatched designer? Thanks!

Haha yes you would draw 4 cards if a 1hp sidekick takes an undefended Disarming Shot. Very strong play for Robin Hood. And I wouldn't say I know EVERY rulings question, but I know a lot. And yes actually I do have a direct line to the Designers haha. Though they interact with everyone pretty much on the Restoration Games discord. You should join! There is a channel on that server specifically for ruling questions and they often answer themselves.

How does Under Achilles' Helm work against Bonus Attacks? The rulebook references the attack being played against the same defender, however is that the defender the card is originally played against or the defender during combat?

It would be the defender of the combat, so Pat. Which makes bonus attacks against Achilles especially dangerous since if you hit into helm with the first one, Pat will likely just take the 2nd one 😅

I personally find Achilles incredibly threatening. I think I've done a good job playing against him, but every time I'm worried that one little mistake and the whole game turns around! 😅

Zero, please help. Achilles' character card states: "When Patroclus is defeated, discard 2 random cards." I'm not sure which cards to discard: from hand or from deck or from discard pile...?

Haha yes you avoid losing the two cards. If you have 1 in hand then you only lose 1.

The only time I can see Achilles Heel getting interesting is if he uses it to defend against Little Red's What Big Eyes You Have. Playing it already cancels the effect, but if she has the Wolfsbane in her basket, then that renders the high value useless, meaning you lose, but because the card was cancelled... Yeah, good luck wrapping your head around that one! Otherwise, I don't see any other way to get around that effect.

Yeah the Big Eyes would cause Red not to gain an action since the Heel effect was cancelled. A really interesting interaction though is Under Achilles Helm vs Big Eyes (or Highway Robbery). Since Helm is Immediately, it will swap before Big Eyes cancels and then Pat will take the 3 damage 😅

Although, I have a feeling Achilles might not do too hot against Robin Hood, since he's ranged, and he has a plethora of sidekicks with him, so even if Patroclus is keeping one or two busy, the others can get around him and to Achilles, no sweat. I suppose it would depend on the map in that instance. Otherwise, I suspect he's gonna do well in the competitive scene. Patroclus can rack up his own damage pretty quickly, and Angry Achilles will definitely be a nightmare for some if not most fighters!

@@ClawsAndTeeth yeah I've done Achilles vs Robin and it felt pretty even. I definitely agree that he will make an impact in the competitive meta. To what extent we will have to wait and see.

The 3v4 technically resolved the fight in Achilles' favor, she just gets to damage him as if he didn't defend at all. She essentially can't use the gain action effect both because she lost the draw and because she negated.
