Looks good! The window turned out well. You certainly have a lot to do, but you both seem capable. Regarding the waterproofing, I’d recommend using a tile backer board like Wedi or Jackoboard (there are other brands too). These not only provide a suitable substrate to tile onto, but the foam core is waterproof, so you just need to seal all the joints and fixing holes. I’d always recommend tanking the entire area, though, just to be certain. Another advantage is that it offers a bit of insulation, which can help reduce condensation after a steamy shower. For areas with timber, install 18mm plywood over the studs (or between them, if you want to save as much space as possible), then fit a 10-12mm Wedi-style board, securing it with stainless steel fixings. For masonry areas, simply prime the wall and use a suitable tile adhesive to fix the tile backer board. You could tank the masonry directly, but I think it’s better to isolate any potential issues from your tanking especially if you’re spending a lot on the tiles. Use a tanking system like Mapei WP1 or a similar liquid system, applying the tape to all the corner joints. If you’re opting for wet underfloor heating, you’d probably be best using a cement-based product on the floor, like Hardy Backer or an aluminum oxide board like Marmox. The wet UFH will likely be installed with spreader plates, so you don’t want a foam-based backer board over your heating, as this would insulate and reduce the effectiveness of your UFH. The cement board will provide some thermal mass, especially if you go for a 12mm thickness. Again, you can use the Mapei WP1 system, or other tanking membranes like Impey or Mapei, which can be directly applied to the cement board. Wedi board can be used over underfloor heating as it has minimal insulating properties, so it won’t cause any major issues with the system. It’s also a great option because it simplifies the process as you’re using one product for both waterproofing and a tiling substrate, instead of layering multiple different ones. Please, whatever you do, DON’T tile over plasterboard, even if you tank it it’s just not acceptable imo. One final note, which is probably the most important: I noticed when you did the underground drainage, it looked like you didn’t bevel the ends to a 45-degree angle (maybe you edited it out and didn’t show it). This is a very important part of using underground drainage, as it ensures the rubber seal folds out properly. Without the bevel, the blunt end of the pipe can either slice the seal off or grab it and drag it into the fitting, preventing a proper seal. I’d definitely double-check that, as once the floor is concreted, it’s very difficult to access those fittings without a lot of unnecessary work.
@RestoringNumberFour5 күн бұрын
Somewhat capable but very slow as we learn ha, but we enjoy it! For waterproofing we have gone with Schluter, heard of them? (Let us know what you think of our new video, its all in there) We are working with them with Wunda rapid response UFH and Marble tiles to top it off (also in the new vid). You have great knowledge is this your trade? Painting the plasterboard wall, as it's far enough away from the shower not to worry about. Noted on the piping, we have fitted what we think is a 45-degree angle on now, but more on that soon, been held up in the kitchen with the shared leadwater pipe issue, but that's been sorted now, woohoo!

Hmm - the engineer (and former home renovator) in me has a wee bit of fear when you say you are combining "wet room" with "underfloor heating ." Surely not electric underfloor heating? I would worry about future leaks (even minor) and short circuits/shock potential.

My mans, you need to go for flat panel LED spotlights and not the big can type that will involve you punching a massive hole through your insulating layers. The heat they gove off also acts as a pump to push the nice "bought" air inside your house outside through the roof. So best be avoided and go for a solution that doesnt need that big hole.

You might consider a floor drain for the bath. They are used in most hotel bathrooms. Put down the moisture barrier and build up the floor with a concrete bowl sloped towards the floor drain. Build your shower as a cement curb. Use a cement with fine aggravation. After you build the dams, then slope the shower. Then tile over the top of the floor and shower floor. It is the least expensive and best moisture containment I have found other than tacky fiberglass shower floors.
@RestoringNumberFour22 күн бұрын
