Fun fact I learned how to raise and slaughter rabbits at 4 years old. Break their neck with a twist and you don't even need a tool to skin one, there is actually a method in real life to quite literally hurl a bunny out of its own skin. Won't lie there is a certain trauma in raising a bunny than killing it. I personally am planning to try and avoid slaughtering any animals in the game. Because for me that would be the actual challenge. Learning how to live without eating meat in a zombie apocalypse feels right though. Once you know the fear of being prey do you really want to inflict such on any other life? Additional personal note, my uncle was an avid hunter all his life, but after he served in war he only hunted animals with a bow and arrow. He considered guns by our gamer lingo too OP to use on animals if one wanted to call it a honorable hunt.

Oooh, the gas station being out of gas is interesting. Echo Creek gas station in my first run doesn't have that. I guess this is a new randomised element of the world, any gas station could be out of gas. Nice.

I found one pump handle had no fuel, but the handle next to it on the same pump did. So basically it had no 87 octane but had 93 is my guess. So I'd look at the pump again and check all handles.

If you want to start farming crops, there is a bug with the seasons. Even in season, the crops will just die, even with compost and fertilizer. Tested it out with debug mode. Probably will need to wait for it to be fixed.

Little warning about basements. Once the power goes out, thats it they can't be powered again even if you use a generator. Thats obviously not intended and will probably be fixed later

Being able to make long sticks out of planks and a saw with a mod was the first thing i looked for. Even being able to mass produce them, spears are pretty bad now. Even with a x2 durability mod they still break in a stiff breeze.

LOL you live in the same house as me. In my playthrough i went to the commercial chicken farm and it got me an animal trailer, 4 chickens and 552 eggs from a storage room

You can pet the animals everyday for animal care can get to like level 4 pretty easy

Assuming this series goes on for a while, then please, get every skill book you can. As you yourself mentioned, they are RARE. You found a tier 4 book at some point already, it was either carpentry or mechanics, and there's the T1 and T2 mechanics in the first mechanics store you went to - grab them. If you ever need them, there is not a very high chance you find a duplicate 😅 How many skills with books/magazines? Times 5? With a tenth of the old spawn rate? Assuming it was mechanics 4 you found early on, unless you're building a metal base you actually don't need that, *_unless_* it's required for building a cure. If it was carpentry 4, you should get that 100%

I've been an occasional fan for years now, originally I was TheOnionWhisperer, I was there while the first logan season was releasing - I got upset about you not finding lockers for your base that match in colour, if you remember that, or when I recommended you play rimworld without realising you had several months prior - I was 10 years old at the time. I don't mind becoming a T2 fan at this point. I know it's sort of obvious, but only hopping in every few months and binging a series or two has really shown how much progress you've made in life, and in content quality. Happy New Year! Seeing all the new stuff is pretty exciting. I understand the excitement of not knowing what all the new items are; it's like playing Fallout the first time and looting everything, lol. I wonder if the animals could drink from the little creek if you set up the areas properly (and move the fences) so you could go on extended expeditions without having to worry about them dying of thirst. I guess then you still have to worry about food. Anyway, thanks for another awesome video. P.S. just FYI, in the U.S. the place where farmers sell their wares is called a Farmers Market. The stores like Blaire's Potted Paradise are called agricultural supply or maybe Ranch and Farm supply, at least where I live

first fish i caught in b42 was a 45 and some change lbs gar. It took a long while to figure out how to eat it bc i couldn't put it in the oven/campfire and needed a surface to fillet it. each fillet was 20 pounds. if anyone is wondering, you can add it to a soup or stew :)

Based on different channels I've watched I do think there is some randomized placement of animals. In one I saw a herd of cows in an area and in another playthrough I saw sheep in the same area instead.

I feel like having pet cows for milk/butter and rabbits for meat you'd be pretty set for food. I havent seen how common it is, but i feel like rabbits should breed all year round and regularly given thats what they do IRL. I havent worked out how to make animal feed yet. Thats something I'm still trying to work out.

I tried using spears yesterday. They are absolute hot garbage, because they break after 2 or 3 hits, even with max carpentry. You only get spear XP from stabbing with them, so when they break they stop counting as a spear and instead count as short blunt.

Sorry, forgot to mention this episode - it's from the They Knew mod - their satchels can be used alongside backpacks :) Normal satchels cannot be used - but I believe another mod was just updated which adds that as a feature.

In many ways that is the perfect base - basement, pumps, lots of storage, garage next door, car parking and the river/woods next door. So I do understand why people have based there - but I wanted this series to be more about the farming/living off the land aspect of the build - so I prefer where I am based :)

@@IslandPotato I think the one thing I learned from everyone using it, was even at the start there is a real chance it will be empty at the pumps due to RNG. at least 2 of the people I watched using it, found it already all out of gas, which at least helps make it a little less of an always pick here kind of base.

I am mildly overencumbered during the fights this episode, it makes me slightly more tired because of this, but really it's not that much difference. If it was more than a few zombies, I would drop the bags before the fight- but honestly, if it's only ~3 zombies, I find doing that more hassle than it's worth. Especially when I know I am highly unlikely to run into any more trouble.
