A surprisingly solid album and easily their best since Tattoo You.

there has been many times where I didn't initially like new songs on a Stones album - but now they are songs I couldn't imagine not having. I like Hackney Diamonds a lot and it has been a good launch - always creative - hope its a big success

Thank you for your review. I pretty much agree with you, it sounds pretty good and modern, but it would have been even better with some more dynamics. The music and songs are also quite good, and it is a fun listen. I think the cover artwork is o.k., but they clearly could have done something better with the inner gatefold, that was a bit underwhelming. I did get the purple transparent pressing which was also of good quality. The clear vinyl looks really neat, though, I have to say. I have read online that the surround mix is supposedly more dynamic (on the Blu-ray), and I am looking forward to hearing that soon. It can be downmixed to stereo to get a more dynamic representation for those who do not have a surround setup. It was a nice suprise to find out that this record is actually pretty good overall, and I think the sequencing works really well. Not a bad song on the album in my opinion.

Wikipedia says Darryl Jones on bass, but he is not mentioned in the (cd) 🤨booklet; looks like he's not on the album...... Producer Andrew Watt plays a lot of bass on this album and a lot of other instruments.

Wikipedia says Wood and Richards play bass. It mentions Jones, but says he recorded and doesn't appear in the final released version.

@@davewebbtheauthor thanks Dave. Yeah, Wikipedia pages are living documents, they change and grow every day. Now we know Darryl is not on the album, but he is still in the touring band. Great bass player.

Reviews like this are reminiscent of the _'vinyl-versus-CD'_ arguments of the mid-80s 😂. Digital has come a really long way in forty years. Most of us don't have £6,000 Marantz tube amplifiers and £10,000 McIntosh XR100 speakers. *Welcome back to cork sniffing rock and roll.*
@top5records796 Жыл бұрын
My system is not that expensive aswel (a lot of the Marantz ‘70s amplifiers are btw of incredible quality that go way beyond some of the 1000s of pounds amplifiers of these days). By no means would I like to restart the discussion with this video. It’s also way to complicated. Choose the medium you like. I’m just reviewing the vinyl in this video.

@@top5records796 I'm 63 and build custom electric guitar replicas (like Keith Richards _'Micawber'_ 1953 Fender Telecaster). Many guitarists insist only Fender guitars made before 1967 'have the REAL Fender sound.' I was only pointing out that the discussions back then could become quite _'lively'_ over the topic.

I like the songs on Hackney Diamonds but the cover Art Sucks and the name sucks. What they should have done was make the cover reflect what was in the video for Angry. That was a good video to bad about the cover what were they thinking 🤦♂🤷♂

Music is okay. Nothing really great. But okay. But the lyrics are really very mediocre.

I agree! I just spend an evening with a friend listening to Rolling Stones albums and singles and really, Hackney Diamonds is a beautiful and relevant new record which is among their best!

Listen to it more than 3 times before casting a negative judgment. It seems to me that you have seen a lot of positive and raving reviews and you gotta be "that guy" who has to say that it's nothing special just ok and be a negative Nancy. Rolling Stones lyrics have ALWAYS been "just ok" or mediocre. The lyrics always bite and run with how so many of their songs are real Rockers, and their ballads/western feel tunes always hit home.
@albertinsinger7443 Жыл бұрын
@@tdunph4250 I have been a huge stones fan since they made their first album. So I am almost as old as the stones themselves. Lyrics like Sympathy for the Devil are great or others even from that album Beggar Banquet are great compared to these lyrics. The music on this album Hackney Diamonds is too much grunge , fuzz, and the progressions too basic and boring. With the exception of Angry. Of course the album is wildly well produced. But in the end the lyrics is the weak point. I cannot listen to songs with such lousy lyrics.

@@albertinsinger7443 Fan since the early 70's and I love it to bits. It's not "grunge" but rather very melodic and enjoyable. The lyrics may not be deep, but they are relatable and meaningful to many. Sorry you don't like it.
