Unpacking my palms @ 2023 (Part 2)

Hi friends,
This time I have filmed the removal of my winter protections for you guys.
This video is the 'second part' with two bigger protections...
In this video the protection of :
- 'Parajubaea torallyi var. torallyi'
- 'Butyagrus'
Last December (2022) we had another ice week with severe frost and a lot of humidity. The worst combination for our plants. With the Parajubaea was no heating during that week, it got a lot colder than predicted so I had misjudged it a bit. 🤷‍♂️ Yes, that can happen to me too...😉
As a result, the recovering 'Parajubaea' again has quite a bit of leaf damage. The spears and inner leaves are still perfectly healthy.

Mijn butia eriospatha thuis heeft ook serieus afgezien,zonder verwarming voor de eerste keer,twee dagen met min10. Niets te zien met jubeae.Succes met uw prachtige tuin

Dank je Jean Yves. Jammer om te horen van je Butia. Hier hetzelfde, ook veel bladschade aan de grootste Butia. Die is onbeschermd gebleven maar hier gelukkig niet zo koud als -10°C. Ook de Jubaea is hier nog steeds perfect, goed om te horen dat de jouwe ook mooi is 👍😊 Groeten Dimi

I have a potted palm 🌴 with roots exposed. Some of the roots are cracked. If I plant the palm in the ground the trunk should grow new roots as a natural growing process. By the way, I thought people in Belgium 🇧🇪 speak French 🤔 Do you also speak German?

No, I don't speak German or French. I only speak Flemish (Dutch), I always have to translate all messages with Google Translate... In Belgium people speak Dutch, but Belgium is divided into two, Flanders & Wallonia. In Wallonia people speak French, which is the Belgian part that borders France. But I live in Flanders and therefore only speak Dutch (Flemish). That palm will indeed grow new roots in the open ground, but it is best to transplant a palm in a pot with bare roots a little deeper. So that the roots are back under the soil and cannot dry out. It also encourages adventitious roots to be made.

Wat een werk, maar ook wat een inspiratie! Mag je flink trots op zijn! Zijn al je isolatieplaten express wit van kleur? Omdat zwart meer warmte opneemt, vandaar mijn vraag.

Dankjewel Rob 👍 Inderdaad wel wat werk maar eens het staat ben je wel gerust & relax voor de komende winter. 😉 Als ik zelf kon kiezen dan waren de platen allemaal transparant, om maximaal licht door te laten voor de planten. Maar ik koop deze niet nieuw, want dat is onbetaalbaar duur helaas. Dus tweedehands heb je weinig keuze. Deze witte platen laten ook nog redelijk wat licht door, zwart zou veel te donker zijn en dat is niet goed als de planten constant donker zouden staan. Het weegt dus niet op tegen het eventuele kleine voordeel van iets meer warmte opname... Warmte is er trouwens sowieso voldoende hoor, te veel zelfs als de zon er op schijnt. Dan moet ik alles openen of het word zelfs TE warm.
