New subscriber. Enjoyed the video. I have a large Duluth Pack that is almost 30 years old. This year, I am going to use it more. I came across your video while searching to see if other people use their canoe packs for wilderness camping outside of canoeing.

Great bag. I was lucky enough to pick up to newer green Duluth packs at a yard sale for $20. One is large.. the other is HUGE! Lol Thanks for sharing your testimony. I love God and I know He loves me!!!

Nice old pack. I am not sure of the age. Mine has the tump line. That piece in the bottom and the inside color makes me think a later design or built custom. The tump line works because it leaves your hands freer for a climb and to haul your canoe. Mine is made of the same color canvas inside and out which is tent canvas. Duluth Pack was originally Duluth Tent and Awning. These were designed to carry what others carried in a chuck box. Canned goods, sides of bacon sacks of flour and so on. These were easy to put on the running boards of cars as well, plus they were less likely to tear a hole in the upholstry if they were pack on a seat. These also worked well with dog sleds. If the canvas ripped stitch a patch of canvas or leather over the hole. Look at some old pictures of Sigurd Olson or Calvin Rutstrum and you will likely see one of the packs near their canoe. There were other tent companies in Duluth that made the packs as well. The BWCA certainly kept them a live. Duluth in those early days was quite a city in those days, not just because of the port but the iron mines. Also many picked up supplies before heading to Canada. The Mackinaw coat of the 1920s became a popular fashion item do to a ad campaign from a Woolin Mill and of course Duluth tools. Then the mines brought on the begining of Greyhound bus lines.

Thanks for the wealth of knowledge! When I was on the boundary waters 20 years ago we used a slightly larger pack with panels on the sides for a boxier shape and boy was it heavy! It did not have a trump line which may have made carrying the canoe easier...with so many people using them and the long history of the device I suppose it would be a nice addition. Thank you again for the history addition!

@@honorableoutfitters A tump line is something you would need to use starting young. Natives and Vouyagers used them as do peoples of other countries. We are not raised that way. My grandfather boxed and lifted the front of tractors after a hard mornings work, a large meal and more hard work in the afternoon. Not me. I would have found shade and rested.

Great piece of history. I was in Duluth this summer fell in love with the area. We went to the BWCA, Grand Marias, hiked sections of the Superior Trail, and visited Grand Marias. I plan on returning.

That's amazing! Truly a piece of American craftsmanship! Do you reckon that the modern Duluth Canoe packs or, say, the Frost River canoe packs can compare? I'm planning quite a lot of days long hikes and camps here in Idaho, Utah, and Montana and I am in need of a large pack like this. On the other hand,... I want to thank you so very much for sharing your testimony with us. It was beautiful to hear, especially in a dark time like now... I'm glad to call you my favorite youtuber, almost like you are a close friend, solely because of our brotherhood in Christ Jesus. Praying without ceasing and acknowledging God's providence and hand in even the tiniest of things will give us that bold courage more evident than a lions. As you have said, God is not always the bearer of news that is particularly "good". Us humans are very carnal and vain beings at heart and when it doesn't benefit us in the short term...we reject it. We are called to be followers of Christ and with that, we are told that we will be persecuted, 2 Timothy 3:12, but oh the reward in the long term; eternal paradise with our Saviour is beyond worth the persecution, John 5:24. God be with you always my friend and know that I will be praying for you as well. I look forward to the next video!

I prefer Frost River because they use wax canvas and was started by Duluth Pack workers that broke away from the company. One thing to remember these are not really packs for hiking. They are for portages which are short distances. I have carried one fully loaded and it's no picnic. This is fine for original design. Get one of the more modern packs from one of the companies.

I agree with 57WillysCJ that a large Frost River pack like the Isle Royal would better suit you, as they are made for hiking or Trekking and can utilize a padded hip belt which is a huge benefit for a heavy pack
@AppalaShane Жыл бұрын
Yes, thank y'all. I've been looking at Frost River and they have some very, very nice packs with quality looking straps and nice hip belts. God be with y'all!

Thank you for a good piece of Testimony' I believe that 'God is Love.' After that, we part ways on faith. I believe in the preaching of the Living Christ. The Church has saddled his message with a lot of add-ons.

There is One Crist, One Gospel, One Faith, and that faith is not our own, but is imparted on us by Christ Jesus through His Holy Spirit. So, if all believers have that one faith how can a local denomination separate us from Christ or even each other? Is it not the sum of all us believers what makes the body of Christ and the one true church? What saves us is our personal relationship with Jesus and His faithfulness. Nothing can separate a believer from Jesus; certainly not our denomination.
