Friends - I've gotten LOTS of comments about this, so let me just say this up front. The stuff I was 'tossing' isn't going in the trash - it's going into a destash box that I will pay forward to someone that can/will use it. These are items I know I'm never going to use, so I figured now would be a GREAT time to pay them forward to someone else.

When my son ran the wiring for me in my shed/studio, I told him I did not want to be crawling around the floor behind machines to plug things in. So he took the level he had which was about 4 feet tall walked around the room and use that height to install my outlets. Most of them would be just over table height and readily available.

hahahaha! you just unboxed a large glass “jar” with cork lid…..you didn’t know what you were going to do with it…..it was a cookie jar years ago for us, then is became something to collect pennies in, now its just on display on the shelf under our living room end table! lol. It’s fun watching your video from 2 years ago. Also the wall paint is the same color of my sewing room when we were in Virginia. I love it! WOW! You and your sister - I would have thought you were twins from the photos!! I love to organize things, it’s so fun watching how others organize their sewing spaces. Your space turned out so beautiful in today’s videos and it’s fun seeing what you started with.

I moved to a condo two years ago. I still have to paint my bedroom a different color. I have four target metal shelves which I can stack fabrics etc on. I finally getting organized in my living room, Handi Quilter Sweet 16 sit down machine. Two more Target metal shelves for my fabrics. I will prime and paint soon. A soft lime green. It is now a deep blue , too dark for me. I will get my items out of the containers then. I can decide what to keep also then.

As I have gotten older. My knees are getting worse. I use a wheeling horse saddle chair when I long arm. I have tile on my sewing studio floor. It rows the width of my long arm. You may eventually need the use of a chair to long arm. I think there are plastic glass sturdy desk and floor mats you can look into to put over the carpet to run long arm on a chair. I hope you blind your windows due to sunlight and fabric not working well together. Good luck on your set up. I am going to have a cutting table with bolt storage under neath it so I can avoid clearing my main table to cut bolt fabric. I also purchase my batting two bolts at a time. I have a room adjacent to my studio as a batting room. They are hung on the wall. Saves Money to buy by bulk

I’m finishing everything I have started since I began quilting (2001). I made the decision to finish everything I’ve started so I can see how far I’ve come technically. My husband thinks that one of my first tops which is technically a disaster is on of my best. All he sees is the fabric choices and the design. What I’m saying is finish your early stuff so you can see how far you’ve come.

I think it was a smart decision to move the outlets up over the shelving. If you cut them into the middle of your shelving, you would lose that space in front of the outlet. You obviously put a great deal of thought to the layout, but you have designed the space in a way to be somewhat flexible. Great job!
@sewbecca

I've put a lot of time into thinking this space through. The furniture will likely always stay in the same place, and the space will get 'face lifts' through updating different pieces of furniture and decor over the years. :)

My studio was going to be the family room. We put up 3 fixtures with 4 fluorescent bulbs each. We also installed a 4 gang outlet at each end. There is a main on/off switch at the door. Also each light is switched, so a big 3-way system. I love being able to plug my iron into the ceiling. My ironing surface is perpendicular to the walls. You're studio will be great!! And you can setup for your KZbin broadcasts from the start.

You are giving me great ideas to get organized with the comic boards. I am new so I really don't have yardage yet, maybe 1-2. Mostly I have 5" and fat quarters. I hope to be able to get jelly rolls and yardage soon. Confused about how much yardage to get unless there is a specific project.
@sewbecca
@sewbecca 2 жыл бұрын
My rule of thumb is if I find a print I like, I'll get a yard of it (a yard goes a long way in quilting). if I *REALLY* love it, I'll get 2 yards. And if it's something that I know I want to use as a background or a backing, I'll get 4-5 yards.

Yeap. And we were already seeing that within a week or so of us living here. The garage fit one car and a bunch of 'stuff'. So, why not make it something more useful!

Just be aware natural or not, constant light on things, Will, cause fading. So if you have curtains, do block-outs and make excuses/good reasons for changing your displays often to change which ones are fading. Then close up and turn off if you are out of there? The more abric you put on theshelves, the prettier your room looks. Are you putting your batting and backings on the shelves, down at the long-arm end of the room? You can put a barbecue area/hot tub, in your car-port, seating and a table, for gatherings, and have one or 2 extra bays for visiting cars, once you have finished moving in, setting up and saved up some more money? You could even park your cars outside to have bigger gatherings in the car-port? Wood fired pizza-ovens outside or providing warmth inside, are popular in australia. I don't know if you have them in america, my sister found a sturdy step ladder with big square steps and a fold out bucket holder at the top from the Gorilla brand, hard narrow steps are not comfortable for long.

That's a lovely idea - we do have an electric space heater we're using right now. I'm trying to not buy anything else since the mini split is SUPPOSED to be installed on Tuesday (we'll see if that happens). If I had all my equipment out there and was able to start sewing in the studio, might be a different story. But - electrical isn't fully working yet. :(

Hi Becca! You can always have someone transcribe patterns while you dictate what to cut, how to construct and you or them take pictures along the way!
