I’m 19 and still have a large stuffed seal, a small manatee, and a dog plush in my bed. Sure, I write grant proposals and do research, but I have no shame about my friends. The seal is a great pillow and I’ve had the manatee since I was 9 or 10.

Do you guys put your PCs _on_ your desks? But… why? That takes up so much valuable desk space and unless you waste hundeds of dollars on some LED-setup, it usually looks kinda ugly as well. The only time I've ever seen a PC on the desk instead of under it was one of these tiny toaster-sized ones. This includes every one of my own PCs, my friends' and family's PCs as well as every office PC I can think of right now.

I'm an 89 kid, and I never had a Tamagotchi (probably due to money). My first e-pet was a digivice (I think it was the orange one? Can't really remember) I think the Gameboy Advance SP was the first one with a backlit screen (it had a button for it and everything). I remember trying to play silver on my GBC in the car and playing by streetlight.

Didn’t have a tamagotchi growing up myself. I briefly considered buying one of the new ones for fun, then I saw the price tag and decided nope. 😅 As for Gameboy, I think there was a version with a light prior to the SP, but I don’t think it was available in the US (it was called the Gameboy Light or something like that). But Gameboy Advance SP was definitely nicer, and was actually my first Gameboy. I actually still have it, and after 14 years it still works!

I wish university was like that ... Mine had tiny rooms, large shared bathrooms, and no kitchen of any sort. Also, hot plates/grills of any variety were not allowed. You could have a mini fridge and microwave, that was about it. I was in university a little before 2004, and you're absolutely right about 1997 ... can't believe that's over 20 years ago. Still ... makes me nostalgic.

I still have my original GameBoy on a shelf. There was a massive periferal for that, a combined light and magnifing glas you could slide over it. So you could play at night under your blanket, which I might have done... took 2 AA batteries thought.

Because Sony owned them and charged huge licensing fees. Sony had a long history of making up proprietary formats and trying to be the exclusive manufacturer or licensor of them. Most failed because competing formats were more common. Blu-ray was the exception, but Sony lost millions to win that war by selling the PlayStation 3 at a significant loss.

Honestly, it was the expense. When MDs were publicly available, at least where I was, it was the same time as CD/DVD spindles were becoming vastly cheaper than before. For 1 MD, I could almost afford a spindle of 50 CDs. I loved MDs too but the cost of media (and need for a separate, also expensive player) killed them.

4:22 😅 putting the Troll in the cabinet is a smart move. I was always terrified of them. Also, I keep forgetting Jon is a few years older than me lol I was only 3 in 1997, I dont really remember it, just the Troll my grandmother gave me haunting my dreams with its creepy stare

@@NetherMorne haha yeah, he did have me on edge at times. He figured out that the polka dot pajamas were a set but dragged the pink striped pajamas around endlessly passing over each other without connecting the dots. As he was talking about the matching set. 🤣
